The Golf Thread

I'd probably overswing and end up in a lava patch or Pineapple field.

Odd thing about that tee shot is that you have to aim it at the middle of the clubhouse on the right (it looks like there is a trash can or something there in the fairway in the pic,) and with any draw, you have to start it at the far right chimney (about where the island ends in the distance.) Everything goes way left when it touches the ground.

I was still proud of my drive, and actually hit a 4 iron over the right side for my second.

Poplar at Perkins. You can pick up some close out equipment really cheap.

cool thanks man.

I played Galloway for the first time yesterday. That was a nice little course. Got my second ever par on the par three #10. Almost had another on a par three, tee shot went over the green, and an amazing pitch and put it 5 feet from the cup, then choked and missed badly on the put.

I also had my first par on a Par 4 today, #6 at fox meadows.

I don't know when this happened but the last two times i have played my drives, while not the longest in the world, have for the most part straighten out. Now that is a cool feeling.

Might get another 9 holes in tomorrow before (gasp) I start my job...so long sweet summer....

I played the Plantation course in '95. You bringin it up brings back some good memories from the islands. Good times to be had over there.

The first course I ever played (and what started this whole golfing binge) was last month was I was in Hawaii. I played the Mamala Bay Golf Course on Hickam AFB. Man it was AMAZING.

However, when I payed $22 for 18 and a cart I thought that would be the norm (or even a little more since we were in paradise). I was wrong.

BTW...if there are any military in or around memphis, the 164th Airlift at the Airport sends a C5 to Hickam every other week....space A FTW.

played another scramble this morning..
It was hot, but the beer was cold...kinda of an anolgy for my game...
Irons we're on fire, but the driver was ice cold...

You should be able to play the base course up in Millington pretty cheap, maybe?

Michelle Wie just can't catch a break. She's one shot out of the lead but just got DQ'd for not signing her scorecard until after she got outside the scorer's tent. I know a rule is a rule, but I have always thought it was ridiculous to have a scorer with every group, somebody beaming the score of each hole to a central scoreboard . . . and yet they still go through the antiquated process at the end of the round.

What's worse is they didn't tell her until after her 3rd round. They should have at least let her know before she left the course on Friday. I agree, ridiculous rule that actually serves no purpose except to be a trap.

retarded rule and they were in the wrong for not telling her.....but, she has brought this upon herself with her poor attitude.

Not sure what her attitude really has to do with any of this. She actually was signing autographs for kids outside the tent when someone alerted her that she hadn't signed the card, so she went back and signed it, but since she left the scorer's tent, she was DQ'd.

Like I said earlier, it's her fault and a rule is a rule . . . but come on.

She definitely has been pushed too hard and managed things poorly, but what does any of that have to do with forgetting to sign a scorecard?

I just wonder if the rules might have been interpreted a tad differently had it been anyone else.

I really doubt it. I can't believe the LPGA would be dumb enough to carry out a vendetta against one of the top draws in women's golf.

this is an absolutely asinine thing to suggest. if Norman had done this today, and broke the rule, he'd be gone.

the rules of the game play no favorites.

The rules of golf at time can be subjective. I don't think it's asinine to suggest this at all.

I see what you are getting at, but this is a really black and white rule. She left the scoring tent area without signing her card. It wouldn't have mattered if it was Annika Sorenstam, she would have been DQ'd.

there's stories guys who signed off wrong on their last round of Q School that cost them their tour cards. Michelle Wei, Tiger Woods, Lorena Ochoa; it doesn't matter. all of them would have met the same fate for breaking the rule.

nobody is trying to "punish" her for what has been her childish behavior, which really, is what you would expect from an 18 year old. as she becomes more mature, she'll figure it out. i though she was very contrite in her comments.

I didn't say that they would not disqualify another player...but they did let her play through the 3rd round. I'm suggesting that perhaps this would not have happened with another player.
