The Grill and BBQ thread

And what time do we eat :)

Hoping to have done around 6. We'll pig out on it tonight, give some to the parents and vacuum seal and freeze the rest. Should have enough pulled pork to last a little while and be able focus on smoking other things the next few weeks.

Anyone have a simple, flavorful bean recipe? The majority of these Bush's canned bean products are just mostly bland to me. I had some beans at a cookout that someone had thrown together. They started with canned beans but added like extra brown sugar and bacon to it and it was really good. They didn't have a recipe because they said they just threw it together.
Look up "hog apple bean recipe". You'll thank me later.

For those that are looking to get into Kamado cooking/ smoking but don't want to jump into the price-point of a Big Green Egg, Charbroil has recently introduced their version for $349.

Chris, from www.nibblemethis.com (from Knoxville), is on their team but has every Kamado available on his deck and recently test-drove it on a wing recipe:

This guy is super talented and isn't afraid to share recipes and tips from classes/shows he attends.

You can't beat the price-point!

* I follow him as well. Super talented and a wealth of information.

I used their prior model for about four years and was very pleased, especially for the price ($200 end of season). It didn't hold temp as well as my Egg, but it's a great intro to Kamado cooking. I did put a better gasket on mine, and that really helped seal for smoking at low heat. Mine did wear fairly quickly, with burned out areas around the coal pan and latches after a couple of years. Still, a great option for those not ready to "take the plunge."

Chicken breasts are about as boring as it gets....and then you show us something like this! NICE! :dance2:

My buddy is buying a Stumps Junior. So he's selling his large green egg to my other friend, so I'm thinking about buying his medium green egg.

He was going to let me have it for $350. Worth it? I have a wsm, and I've gotten to the point now where my pork butt is better than anything he makes on his egg. And I've gotten a lot better about maintaining a constant temp, but it still requires some tending to

Does that include a stand or table? Any accessories (plate setter, iron grate, etc)?

The medium does not have a lot of cooking area, so don't plan on using it to feed more than four people. If that's not an issue, then go for it.

The reason he wants the large is exactly that... not enough room to cook for many people. So while it's a good price for a medium, wonder if I should just save my money. I have a wsm and a kettle that work great...

If you plan to cook for more than two on the grill, I'd pass. The large is great for 4-6, but you can't do steaks, fish, etc for more people than that even on the next size up. It's just big enough for a turkey, brisket, butt, etc. I'd feel cramped with the medium.

That being said, good price if the space is right.

Hahaha so true. I got the bone in breasts buy one get one and was determined to do something different. Pretty happy with how it turned out... and now I've got a **** ton of chicken to eat.

That's just crazy talk! :p

New to the egg - I am doing two 9 pound bone in butts starting this afternoon for tomorrow. Do I need to do anything different for two vs. one? Also, just bought the CyberQ :D

I'm not an expert on eggs but in general there's not much different. It just might take little longer.

Brunch anyone? This is a Hot Smoked Tequila Cured Salmon Tostada with Jalapeno Chimichurri Spread

Recipe on the blog if interested.
