The Hire Charlie Strong Thread

Pattiy,

Do you think Strong would be a good 2nd choice?
I don't know as much about him as most of you do but from what I am reading, I am very impressed. I would hate that the color of his skin or his marriage were the reason(s) that he is not considered. I plan on following this thread and info on him more closely.

When you get a chance check the list of zone posters in the zone.

Wasn't Auburn suppose to hire a black winning head coach, but to avoid conflict they hired Gene Chizik?

if Gruden says no i would love to have Strong in Knoxville.I think he has at least 10 plus years of coaching in the sec at florida and usc east.

I would expect he would say NO to 3.25/year. Once he did, I would move on. ALOT of other coaches would have to tell me NO to 4-4.5 million before I would give anything close to 4 million to CS. JMO

Nothing against Strong as a coach, but I'm not convinced based on what he has done at Louisville that he would be a winner in the SEC. Louisville is 9 - 0 and ranked 9th in the polls, but 4 of those wins have been by fewer than 5 points (including one OT win against a team UT beat convincingly last year) and they haven't faced a single team in the top 25.

UT could arguably be 9 - 0 with this schedule, and Louisville could arguably be 4 - 5 with UT's schedule. This is not the type of proven winner I would throw big money at for our next coaching change.

09/02/12 vs. KENTUCKY W, 32-14
09/08/12 vs. MISSOURI STATE W, 35-7
09/15/12 vs. NORTH CAROLINA W, 39-34
09/22/12 at FIU W, 28-21
09/29/12 at Southern Miss W, 21-17
10/13/12 at Pittsburgh W, 45-35
10/20/12 vs. USF W, 27-25
10/26/12 vs. CINCINNATI W, 34-31 (OT)
11/03/12 vs. TEMPLE W, 45-17
11/10/12 at Syracuse
11/24/12 vs. CONNECTICUT
11/29/12 at Rutgers

You can't just switch teams and conferences and get a clear answer.
What would UT be with Strong and and his defensive mind is the better question. I would strongly argue we beat Georgia and MSU, and perhaps Florida. His strength is D and recruiting, our weakness is D and recruiting. He improves those areas IMO

EDIT: You say he is winning close games, key word is winning. How many close games have we lost the last 3 years?
