The Impeachment Thread

What would the difference be if we had just given them the aid in the first place? Still bribery if you are wanting to define it that way.
We do it all the time, if you want aid you do (or dont) do X. Iran and NK come to mind. Cuba too. Even our relations with NATO are quid pro quo.

It's the basis for all the trade deals, and probably any treaty. Presidents have always wheeled and sealed, it's literally their job to work with foreign nations.

Heck it's the compromise that has died in Congress. I dont see how any form of non utilitarian government does any work without this.

And then you consider that this is money/aid Congress wants him to spend it seems ridiculous to not have clauses on this.

That looks good on paper until it's simplified to (allegedly) "offered US taxpayer dollars to a foreign nation to produce damaging information on a political rival in order to maintain power".

That doesn't sound like a very good replacement to 'Make America Great Again' or 'drain the swamp'.

IF this story is true, it would most likely be Biden's son....not Biden. There is a huge difference.

IF it was Biden himself, he would of been VP at the time, so what were his shenanigans with his son?
The son who married his brother’s wife?

Find you someone who looks at you like McConnell looks at his useful idiot.

This whole thing is dirty as sh*t. Biden's son Hunter was offered a job as a director for an oil firm in Ukraine while Biden was VP. Conflict of interest, but he took it. Then at some point, Ukraine started investigating Hunter. Biden Sr. told Ukraine to fire the prosecutor or US was going to withhold $1B in funds from them.

If all this is true about both Biden Sr. and Trump, they both should be charged with attempted bribery / coercion. This jerkoffs are taking our tax money and using it towards nothing more than their own political gains.

Again, conjecture at this point.

IDK. That was bizarre in itself.

Funny enough Biden threatened to withhold aid:

"Vice President Joe Biden did urge Ukraine to fire its top prosecutor, with the threat of withholding U.S. aid. But that was the position of the wider U.S. government, as well as other international institutions."

The last sentence is irrelevant.

Fact-checking Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and Ukraine

That will be a first.

Has anyone ever used taxpayers money to donate towards a foreign election?

Gotta love Rudy. The most honest dishonest scumbag on Earth. Seems he pretty much confirmed my theory on Ukraine...

“The reality is the president of the United States has every right to say to another leader of a foreign country, ‘you got to straighten up before we give you a lot of money,’ ” Giuliani said. “It is perfectly appropriate for [Trump] to ask a foreign government to investigate this massive crime that was made by a former vice president.”

Rudy simultaneously serves as Trump's attorney and prosecutor of his impeachment. Who needs a trial, we got Rudy to admit Trump attempted to bribe a foreign country to benefit his campaign. Thanks, bro.

Honestly, the depths of stupidity of this administration is mind-boggling.
We shouldnt Prosecute a crime as it may influence an election? When the eff did the Ds start thinking this?

When did the president doing his job become election tampering? Is he literally supposed to sit around and whistle while nothing happens?

I think it is something else. How would reopening the investigation benefit Trump? The story is already out there and sounds like a closed deal.
If allegations are true, I believe it was Ukrainian involvement in the 2016 election. This changes the whole narrative.

Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump backfire

You're right, it could be. One thing that is certain is that the Acting DNI is refusing to let the Congress hear from a whistleblower whose information was deemed by the IG (a Trump appointee) as "a matter of urgent concern". The DNI is required by law to relay this info to the Congress. All signs point to his being blocked by Trump IMO.

This stinks to high heaven. Heads are gonna roll, just don't know whose.

And somewhere Liz is smiling. If she can.

I think it comes down to wording. Knowing Trump it's very likely he did say something wrong. But I can also see this as legitimate or yet another case of double standards.

If there is a crime it's part of the executive's offices job to persue (not sure that's the right spelling). And I dont think a quid pro quo had been outside the office's use in the past. I could be wrong or there is a new law or something.

It's not like he made up a report into maybe a crime to start a investigation. This is an active case, and seeing how it's not the selection for the Dems I dont see it as election meddling.

I knew there was some quid pro quo on this earlier, couldnt remember how it played out exactly.

Double standard swings again.

Shokin was appointed General Prosecutor of Ukraine on 10 February 2015.[4] He became deeply unpopular and was accused of blocking major cases against allies and influential figures and hindering the fight against corruption in Ukraine.[5] Various street protests demanding Shokin's resignation were held[6] and his Deputy Prosecutor, Vitaly Kasko, resigned on 15 February 2016 denouncing the corruption and lawlessness of the Prosecutor's office. US Vice-President Joe Biden lobbied for Shokin resignation and the Obama Administration withheld a billion dollars in loan guarantees for the time Shokin held office.[7][8]

Prosecutor General Shokin on 16 February 2016 submitted a letter of resignation.[9] Although the next day an official of the prosecution office stated "As far as I know he has taken a paid leave".[10] On 19 February 2016 presidential press secretary Sviatoslav Tsegolko wrote on Twitter that the presidential administration had received an official letter of resignation from Shokin.[11] On 16 March 2016 an official of the prosecution office stated that Shokin had resumed his work.[4] On 16 March 2016 Shokin had not been formally dismissed.[12] Shokin was formally dismissed in a parliamentary vote on 29 March 2016.[13] Following his dismissal Shokin went into retirement.[14]

The push for his removal was world wide and protest in the streets for his ouster. I think his investigations were political, not investigating corruption from one side and trying to dig up dirt on the other. There have been no indications that Hunter, or the company he was on the board, was even being investigated for any wrongdoing.

1. Biden should have at the very least recused himself from anything having to even a tangential affect on his son's involvement in Ukrainian business. That he ignored a clear conflict of interest here adds to a laundry list of issues that make him a very poor candidate to face Trump.

2. Trump is running the White House like a criminal enterprise. Using the power of the office to cajole, strongarm and blackmail anyone he can for his own personal gain. Anyone but the POTUS would have been thrown in prison at this point. Rod Blagojevich wouldn't even have the chutzpah to do half this stuff.

President Trump was just asked to confirm whether the conversation that is the subject of the whistleblower's complaint was his July phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky.

President Trump responded: “I really don’t know.”

Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump called the story "ridiculous" and described the whistleblower as partisan

Hmm. To recap, Trump claims he doesn't know *what* was said, but he does know *who* said it.

Seems plausible. LOL

Watching this onion peel away should be fun. Rudy better apply a thicker coat of denture creme ASAP.

He just looks like a crazy old man boxing at shadows now.

Saw him on the TV at the gym this morning and fully expected the caption to be, "You'll never take me alive, coppers! See! You'll never take me alive!"

I think they roll out Rudy (who might as well be eating his own turd-cakes at this point) just so we grade Trump's sanity on that curve.

He better not borrow any from Biden because Biden damn near lost his teeth in the last debate.
