We determine who their next of kin is, and we make arrangements to place the child in their care (provided that it is a suitable household). A child taken away from someone who has been detained, should at the very least, be returned to their next of kin following a brief separation. No plans were ever made for any such arrangements, by those carrying out Trump's "zero tolerance" policy. This just proves that there will always at least one idiot on here, who will support and defend Trump for literally anything.... even when it is something as stupid and unnecessarily inhumane as this.

It isn't that difficult, jackass. You work in concert with the local authorities in that child's jurisdiction or work with the person who has been detained to locate their next of kin. Everyone is documented somewhere. The Trump Administration didn't even try.
