The Intel Leaks Thread

The guy's unit was charged with gathering top-secret intelligence from various sources (U.S., Nato, Ukraine, others, I presume) and then packaging it
for senior military/government officials around the world. I've got nothing against young people, but it's a big and sensitive job for a 21-year-old, who indeed could now be facing serious prison time under the Espionage Act, with which he's been charged, for apparently wanting to impress his online gamer friends A hole in the net.

Where did you get this? Can you post a link to your source?

Not taking a stance either way, but Manning did spend 7 years in prison while Snowden fled to an adversary. If he voluntarily returned I think there's a good chance he'd face little to no prison time, assuming there is no evidence he divulged classified intelligence to Russia.

Both should be hung as traitors (though Snowden would need to be proven at trial first). Snowden's death I would morn at least as it came out later he had quite a point. This whole 'giving our enemies our intelligence" needs to have a Roman response and crucify them down the Appian way so that everyone else can get the point that it is not acceptable.

Then again, when you have an absolute clusterF beyond all proportion that was the Afghan withdrawal and not a single brass gets disciplined, what is actually left in our military or intelligence anyway?

No, I think Manning still gets his sentence commuted and Snowden rots in prison.

Snowden ran and I'm not in favor of him receiving a full pardon, had he released his info and faced the music he should have done time but no more than a decade. Manning didn't run and if he would have gotten 10 years with a dishonorable I think that would have been just. He didn't deserve to have his sentence commuted at 7 years.
Was one leak worse than the other, or were they fairly comparable?

Ukraine needs long-range missiles to destroy Russian bases, depots, etc. in /Crimea./ Doing so would be HUGELY helpful to Ukraine and substantially improve the chances of its coming counter-offense. Right now, Ukraine has almost nothing that reaches deep into Crimea. I'm not sure why the U.S. has refused the long-range missiles. Maybe for the reason you state--but Ukraine's leaders are smart; they're wouldn't do anything stupid to jeopardize their U.S. support.

I didn't make that up. That was a revelation from the leaks. Zelensky wants the missiles to hit deep into Russian city centers. WWIII.

I don't know what turbo saw, but NYT says he worked as tech for a unit dealing with surveillance drones and likely had access to a system called JWICS which is some sort of portal for sharing classified info between entities.

Actually the leaks prove the United States has forced Ukraine to not shoot any long range weapons into Russia, thereby preventing China from entering the fold, thereby preventing World War III. Thus your theory is 100% defunct.

We're not giving them the long range missiles because we know what Zelensky wants to do with them. The only thing preveneting WWIII right now is that the guy we're backing can't get the weapons he wants.

That's completely different than what turbo posted.

Probably already been said, but there were failures at this base for this to happen. He wont be the only one in some deep trouble. I would guess these classified files should be taken back to a secure location and checked before anyone leaves or something like that. He took them home and took pics on the kitchen counter.

Read somewhere that up to 1.2 million people have access to secret in top secret info.

Saw that, too. If true, that's an absurd number. Either a lot of stuff is way overclassified if that many people need access, or way too many people are receiving security clearances above the need level. Hopefully the "need to know" provision is well in play so that a lot of those people are limited in their access, although the clown in question doesn't seem to have been stopped by need to know. I've always thought security clearances and the levels were status symbols. In the old days (like the 1960s) I'm not sure that a lot of people even knew their clearance level. I was vetted multiple times - for a military academy, then advanced ROTC, and later in the Army for radar repair. I don't recall ever being told my status - just saw "Secret" at one point in a set of orders. I worked routinely with classified equipment and documents - almost all were stamped "CONFIDENTIAL" - think I maybe saw "SECRET" on something a time or two. I have a hard time wrapping my head around a million or more people requiring TS classification. One thing we did know was if we screwed up on a security matter, all hell was going to break loose - it wasn't a joke.

Would you like the democrat who leaked information about Chinese spy balloons to face the same fate?

This is the unit he was associated with according to NYT. I'm not bothering to link NYT, it is paywall.

Yep, nothing like what turbo claimed.

There are a lot of AGR guys in sensitive positions doing their jobs without issue.
I get that but there are some levels of clearance and info he doesn't need access to. Maybe I don't completely understand how it works but some of this info it's wild he had access to it.

Ukraine-bashing Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene claims Pentagon leaker 'Jake' Teixeira being prosecuted for being 'white, Christian and anti-war' and that 'makes him an enemy to the Biden regime'

Ukraine-bashing Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene has claimed Jack Teixeira is being prosecuted for being 'white, Christian and anti-war.'

'Jake Teixeira is white, male, Christian, and antiwar,' she wrote, spelling his first name incorrectly. 'That makes him an enemy to the Biden regime.'

'He told the truth about troops being on the ground in Ukraine and a lot more,' the 48-year-old added. 'Ask yourself who is the real enemy?'

Greene alleged that the Biden administration and the Pentagon 'have been caught lying about the war they are funding and fighting against Russia.'

I hear you brother.

Read an interesting article recently about the basic philosophical differences our security system has versus the rest of the world. Basically we count on people being patriotic and distribute classified information a lot more widely than the rest of the world. I think sometimes it comes back to bite Us in the ass but I think it mostly works.

Sorry - if he did it, hang him too. White, Christian, whatever - can't be having people be cavalier about this. Granted, this doesnt seem to be treason so much as a leak, so not a capital offense. There is no indication he was knowingly supplying it to an enemy. Even so, punishment needs to be severe enough to deter others.

I used to think that she was just the typical new breed politician who was using her office to boost her appeal to a certain segment of the population. That way she could make a ton of money after leaving office. Now I realize that she’s actually a legit ****ing moron.
