The Iraq War has cost 3 trillion dollars

Was the Iraq War worth the cost (3 trillion)?

I would perhaps find a more tactful way to approach the argument, but I think I understand what 423 is getting at and I feel the same way. We were not attacked by Iraq, no matter how you slice it, so using "we were attacked" as justification is flawed.

We were attacked by terrorist. Iraq harbors terrorists, any country that harbors, trains, recruits, etc is an enemy of ours.

And by the way, Iraq has not been a friend to the US. Anyone here remember the assassination attempt on the first Pres Bush?

It was time for us to take care of business that should of been taken care of when Clinton had the floor but I guess that is a totally different show all together...

Bush 1 and Clinton 1 both had their opportunities. Seems as though the W decided to finish the reign of the guy who tried to kill his dad. Wouldn't you?

...and your source is from February, 2005!!!

Last time I checked, it was 2008.

Last call for Fantasyland...

You're really that clueless? Your $53 million figure that you referenced is for the amount of the total Social Security and Medicare liability. My figures are for the budget shortfalls (AND I STATED THAT FACT REPEATEDLY).

No, I would not use national security for my own personal revenge.

If we personalize or privatize social security than what happens to the people that refuse to participate? Do we just have an increased population of homeless people because we say it's too bad that you didn't invest or do we still end up covering these people?

I can't seem to recall what I was doing on February 11, 2005...

How about we just get rid of Social Security, Medicare, Welfare, and WIC? The government should in no way be a charity.

Are you serious? If they refuse to participate they get to enjoy the results of their decision. Novel concept huh.

That's fine if you believe that but does that mean we have a huge increase in homeless people wondering around? I think we can both agree that if we go to a system that involves participation than a lot of people will not pay a cent towards it. I don't like it either but I'm curious, what in the hell do we do with those people?

I do not care what in the hell we do with those people. If someone ends up homeless as the product of a lifetime's worth of decisions, then they end up homeless. If people want to donate to a charity to help these people, they certainly have the right. However, forcing citizens to do so...nothing short of socialism.

Hey, I don't like it either. I get up and go to work and support myself. I don't like the idea that someone else is a deadbeat leaching off the system but the world is not fair. If we go to a system that says tough crap you're on your own than we'll end up flipping the bill in some other way.

It is the job of local churches to take care of the poor.

It is the fault of the church and nobody else.

Preach it!

I'm more than OK with that.

Also, where would this increase in homelessness you speak of come from? Surely, if the government stopped deducting SS and these people never invested their money, they are going to have a buttload of disposable income. Think they could pay for a house in 30 years? Might not be able to afford medicine..but not sure why they would be homeless.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do people not believe in FREEDOM any more?

Why give up any thing you have to the government?!?

I really do agree with you guys on the idea but I am looking at it on how things are and not how things should be. I envision people in the inner city making this a racial issue and the people in the projects won't pay a cent towards a privatized social security. They will then accuse the government of suppressing black people and nothing will change. I am not saying I like that but you know that's exactly what will happen so the government will still cover these people in some form. If we could get passed all the B.S. than I am all for it but do you think it would really fly to say tough, get out of your house because you haven't paid for social security? I'm looking for answers to gain knowledge on the subject, that's all.

The first change would have come from the Democratic party.

Stop promising people a lifestyle via government.
