The JB Incident

Banks had one incident as a freshman and has been a good kid ever since.

Two separate incidents both of which involved him threatening females, both of which were recorded so there's no denying that. The more recent stuff according to VQ sounded more like a lot of being late to meetings, practice, etc. Still enough to get you in the dog house, but not as bad.

JB had multiple incidents throughout the season which were not in line with team goals. He had more than one incident the week of the USC game. Thus he was left home. IMO CJH was too lenient with him throughout the season. He needed someone just to be sure he got to class each day. Even with that, he was not going to be eligible for the bowl game.

When two players have a confrontation, you deal with both. You don't punish one and let the other slide. Heupel let his personal feelings impact his job.
Again, please let us know how you know that Hooker was not punished for his infraction against Banks. You know for a fact he didn't have to run, do up and downs, or something along those lines? You also know for a fact that he instigated the fight, threw the first punch, or punched back and deserved to be punished? Not one person has said a word to indicate that, here or elsewhere, including AP, Hubbs, the 247 bros, etc. In fact, I read that it was actually Milton who got in between them and they are the ones that actually had fistacuffs.

Meanwhile, I will present a counter argument to why Hooker SHOULD NOT have been punished. Coaches prefer team leaders in the locker room who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe and what the coaches have told them is right, especially when it comes to team rules. Now one could argue that stepping on the T is a silly/superstitious rule, but missing team meetings, practices, or being late are common sense rules.

If Hendon was truly the leader in the locker room like we all were lead to believe he was, then the entire team was under his care when coaches were not around, regardless of what side of the ball they were on. If he did confront JB, and they began to tussle over the breaking of team rules, then Hooker was not wrong in the least. I would argue that he was, in fact, doing what the coaches and the vast majority of his team had asked him to do all season long. If they got in each others face and either one of them threw a punch or shove, well then, one could argue that they both needed some form of discipline. However, I would argue that you can't discipline your leader when he was doing what he thought was in the best interest of the team, a team that he had by all accounts been the leader of all season long.

If he were my kid, I would have sat him down afterward to discuss how he could have better handled the situation and made him apologize for mishandling it. That would have been the extent of the punishment.

We still lose that game against SCAR decisively even if JB plays.

I'm not sure about that. It's been suggested the team in general was just not up to playing that game, low morale with the mess they had to deal with at the time. But you know, the game is over, JB is gone, and we have a fresh start. I got the 2023 game circled. I'm having lemon-garlic rotisserie capon that day. Steamed carrots, baked potato, maybe buttered cornbread fritters, along with Cayuga White wine. I'll even share pieces of the meat with the dog each time we score a TD.

I have to side with coach on this one
I too believe Coach's decision was based on numerous situations that were ongoing. He had no adgenda against JB, I remember him running out to hug him after the Pitt game. Watching the video of the interview it seemed JB was answering a question concerning an injury being responsible for him not playing. In any event best wishes for all involved, CJH and JB, that was a chapter in a story of a great season. I feel he may develop more at the next level, if not it will be a story of wasted opportunity. I choose to remember the LSU,FLA,KY,ALA, and bowl games from '22, I keep my glass half full. GBO

Very descriptive, thanks.

Jeremy Banks Draft and Combine Prospect Profile | NFL.com

Overview
Inside linebacker who makes up for being slightly undersized with physicality. Banks' instincts and recognition improved in 2022, but he can still get better in those areas. He plays with below-average short-area twitch and just modest pursuit speed from sideline to sideline but will hit and wrap what is in front of him. He’s a likely two-down backup who might come off the field on passing downs but run back out for special teams reps.
Strengths
  • Showed improvement in play recognition in 2022.
  • Scrapes along the front with squared pads.
  • Solid technique to play off of or around the blocker.
  • Adequate feel for efficient track to the runner between the tackles.
  • Will fly into the gap to meet runner where he lives.
  • Widens out and wraps to tackle with bear-hugging arms.
Weaknesses
  • Athletic frame is a little light for an inside linebacker.
  • Lateral pursuit slides lack suddenness to avoid blocks.
  • Inconsistent feel for leveraging his gaps.
  • Loses ground to the runner when play flows wide.
  • Lacks certainty with his coverage duties.
  • Documented off-the-field issues while at Tennessee.

Heupel has done just about everything right since he's been here. This he got completely wrong, and it cost the team.

I disagree but I do understand how you feel as a fan. I'm angry at the loss too. We may not know the details but when it comes to setting examples for your team to follow, as a leader, sometimes you have to do what is needed to have that message understood by the rest of the team. NO one is above the team and the actions, in this case, apparently warranted the punishment. So the loss is on him and his actions, not CJH who is trying to teach75+ other young men that life and the negative actions you take have repercussions. Letting him play would go right along with the rest of the issues with discipline this generation seems to lack. I'm angry we lost, but I'm happy he made an example for the whole team to understand. If your actions are not conducive to a successful person, successful team, then the penalty is sitting out, not being able to play with the team, and that cost them. Besides, him playing would have been a Saban move. I'm glad our coach cares more about the young men and the life lessons that need to be learned vs win at all costs.

Respectfully disagree. Unless you were in the locker room and know the whole story, no way you can have this opinion and be able to justify it. Coaching sometimes requires making the hard, unpopular decisions.

Banks has provided examples of poor decision making and bad character, Heup hasn’t. I’ll stand with Heupel on this one.

You don’t know. You’re never going to know but has anything and I mean anything Josh Heupel has ever done made you think he’s unfair or not a player’s coach?

Even the tweet he made after that game makes you think there’s a lot more to this and Banks was probably being an idiot. You know like Banks has a history of doing.

Dear God! We did not lose this game because he was not on the field and the defense felt slighted by Heupel. NOBODY played well!!! Except for SC. Watch the game again

You're right the team didn't play well, but it was because of division on the team. Both sides were mad at the other. Look at the game before and 2 games after - very good play. This game stands out like a sore thumb. A "blip" like this occurs due to some factor. The fight between Hooker/JB was the match. JB is a thug. He'll play on Sundays with some others just like him. We'll see how he fares.

Overrated? LMFAO! Tell me you don't know jack about football without telling me. He'll be playing on Sunday.

In the Pitt game alone he was single handedly responsible for their first 14 points. He was out of position the entire game. They break a 70+ yard run because he covers McCullough's guy instead of his (the RB), and then the play were the TE hurdles our DB was because Banks tried covering Young's guy (something that happened multiple times during the game). The best part is this is all in the first half and doesn't include and RPO where he left the TE and the 3rd and 1 where he barely moved from his stance on a downhill run play. Lol or maybe I just don't understand football.

Here's Banks and McCoullough both running to the TE flat route on an RPO where Banks has the RB as his man.

Here he is doing the same thing again. He tries to guard the RB (Young's man) instead of his own. This is the play where the TE (Banks' man) hurdles our DB for a TD.

Same game and here he is again trying to guard Young's man.

Amazing how you know the play calls and assignments.

You believe the play call was “double team the RB and leave the TE”?

Or on the RPO “double team the TE and leave the RB?”

Watch the plays. This isn’t a sport made for or by rocket scientists

He had two. Both of which involved him threatening women.
Nowadays that could be anything. Too much eye contact. Not enough eye contact. Not asking about their work day. Leaving the toilet seat up. Setting up a secret IRA that she doesn't know about and funneling funds into it for 20 years, etc, etc. The list is quite endless to be fair.

He told a female doing a police ride along that where he was from they killed cops, that he never forgets a face, and he would see her around.

The second video I remember less about but it’s him and a woman yelling at each other outside of a night club. He’s threatening her and she’s saying she’ll report him to the coaching staff. It’s been longer since I’ve seen the second one so I may be slightly wrong on some of those details

The dude was notorious for running around like a chicken with his head cut off, getting lost in coverage and caught up in the wash. He made up for it by being athletic, but he was always reacting.

At this point, it's actually better for us if he gets drafted high. So, good luck young man.
