When two players have a confrontation, you deal with both. You don't punish one and let the other slide. Heupel let his personal feelings impact his job.
Again, please let us know how you know that Hooker was not punished for his infraction against Banks. You know for a fact he didn't have to run, do up and downs, or something along those lines? You also know for a fact that he instigated the fight, threw the first punch, or punched back and deserved to be punished? Not one person has said a word to indicate that, here or elsewhere, including AP, Hubbs, the 247 bros, etc. In fact, I read that it was actually Milton who got in between them and they are the ones that actually had fistacuffs.
Meanwhile, I will present a counter argument to why Hooker SHOULD NOT have been punished. Coaches prefer team leaders in the locker room who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe and what the coaches have told them is right, especially when it comes to team rules. Now one could argue that stepping on the T is a silly/superstitious rule, but missing team meetings, practices, or being late are common sense rules.
If Hendon was truly the leader in the locker room like we all were lead to believe he was, then the entire team was under his care when coaches were not around, regardless of what side of the ball they were on. If he did confront JB, and they began to tussle over the breaking of team rules, then Hooker was not wrong in the least. I would argue that he was, in fact, doing what the coaches and the vast majority of his team had asked him to do all season long. If they got in each others face and either one of them threw a punch or shove, well then, one could argue that they both needed some form of discipline. However, I would argue that you can't discipline your leader when he was doing what he thought was in the best interest of the team, a team that he had by all accounts been the leader of all season long.
If he were my kid, I would have sat him down afterward to discuss how he could have better handled the situation and made him apologize for mishandling it. That would have been the extent of the punishment.
