You don't understand common core. A child doesn't get the choice of what method he/she wants to use. Common core exams TEST you on each of those different methods.Good. When you're learning you never know what way suits you best. That's kinda the point of school
They don't force you to use them in life or on the standardized tests. Real not much different than having to memorize dates in history class. Some of the methods may not be what you use but everybody is different. Some need more and different instructionYou don't understand common core. That's why you're forced into learning it those different ways. Your grade depends on it.
Then what's the point if you dont use them? School should be reading you for the real world. They don't force you to use them in life or on the standardized tests. The video (and backazzwards instructions) is 2:20 long. A kid could've finished 15 or more division problems in that time. The lady did the problem and made coffee in that time. Nothing deceiving.it's 30sec of a lesson. Maybe that's the long way? It's a tweet meant to deceive. Understanding why is as important as how imo but it's rarely taught anymore. No need to check work on a multiple choice test
Well it was multiplication so if they were doing division then they were doing it wrongThe video (and backazzwards instructions) is 2:20 long. A kid could've finished 15 or more division problems in that time. The lady did the problem and made coffee in that time. Nothing deceiving.
The two ways of showing them are, the way the lady did it on paper and the 5 second in your head version of 35 x 10 (add 0) 350 35 x 2 = 70 350 + 70 = 420
When I watched that video I was able to understand the concept behind it because I knew how to dew (for mcdad) it in the real world. I just dont understand the logic behind the concept. It's the same process and end solution, just with like 5 steps added to it.Except school should also teach you how to learn and apply concepts. That doesn't always mean they're applicable to your future career
The division is my typo. The tweet shows exactly what's wrong with schools. No wonder they allow kids today to turn in work that is a 0 from months back. They gotta keep those ratios up.Well it was multiplication so if they were doing division then they were doing it wrong
It's a lesson not a race to the single answer. It was a dumb tweet

Except she teaching a brand new concept to young kids. She breaks it down to 10s instead and shows all the steps and why it works. I'm truly struggling to see how learning different methods is bad
It doesnt appear she is actually teaching multiplication to first time students. At least that's not how it was broken down for me. To understand what she was doing one would have to understand the concepts behind multiplication.Except she teaching a brand new concept to young kids. Standardized tests not classroom testingNot true.
My kids were forced to use certain methods like drawing dots etc and were graded on the method not the result.
I literally sat down with the teacher and said no we are not doing it this way.
Only reason we didn’t send them to private was we only hsve a catholic school nearby.
But u are wrong on the forced part.
