The Liberal Argument for a Higher Minimum Wage

Has anyone seen anything about rising health care costs in these areas where the $15 minimum wage has been instituted?

Anything on higher shipping/transportation costs?

I'm in logistics and I know the cost of labor has seriously altered some of our quotes in certain areas of the country (increases of $2-3/hr). Our industry is not a high margin one either. Tight labor market with rising wages also makes everything more expensive

I actually saw my first Burger King this weekend with no one at the front counter.......3 big ordering screens and someone working bagging food/helping people learn the screens.

I did see two other screens down the walkway with protest signs for being underpaid.

I saw on BBC where a UK company has made robots that can cut a head of lettuce from the ground and pick hand fruits and strawberries that easily bruise. This would increase yields while decreasing cost as robots would leave much less produce in the field since they could work 20+ hours a day every day. If those reach mass production it would radically change the labor needs of our agricultural industry.

Instead of a mandated higher minimum wage maybe we should have a lower mandated maximum wage.

In short, a self described progressive is lamenting the fact that minimum wag has increased in Seattle over 70% since 2015. And now the restaurant he has worked for the last six years is closing up. As is his previous employer. As is the place he had a interview scheduled for this week.

We’ve just lived through the greatest period of restaurant growth in U.S. history. Here’s why it’s ending.

I would think the job market is probably driving up wages even more than the minimum. I know people here in the east were saying they are paying more than 15. But at least that is supply and demand.

It's going to get a lot worse when the economy tanks again. Or even just dips down a bit. These aggressive minimum wage only somewhat works if the economy is booming. If jobs become scarce a high minimum wage becomes a major issue.

That $15 an hour minimum wage is going to be awesome!

Its stupid. Exactly like the article states. Companies aren't going to hire as quickly or either cut hours/benefits maybe both to recover costs. Its also going to drive the proce of products up as production costs rise.
$9-$10 is more than fair, and most jobs that pay min wage are entry level jobs and not meant for people to feed their families on. But im glad dumbass Biden is in charge so he can screw us over for 4 years.

I would rather use a kiosk than have some common core math professor taking my order. The people working in a drive in line aren't exactly the sharpest knives in the drawer.
You can get your order in a lot quicker talking to someone at the counter than using those kiosks.

If you want to have some fun, the next time your order rings up at $7.47 say you have two pennies when you go to pay for it after they have already entered the amount tendered. Common core can't handle it and the computer has already told them how many pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters to give you back. We have failed our children in schooling.
