The Mandalorian

The prequels were not bad from a story perspective. Horrid acting and TPM certainly left a lot to be desired. But in combination with The Clone Wars, it certainly helps a lot. You get to see why Anakin moved to the dark side rather than trying to cram it in within 2 hours of movie.

I'm okay with Lucas being involved in the way things move along. And I'd really like to know his private thoughts on the sequel trilogy. In public, he has praise, but I'd bet privately, he's not happy with what they did in screwing up the franchise.

Anyway, Lucas pretty much gave Filoni free range with TCW and let him "expand" the universe when he still had control of the franchise. I think he realizes Favreau and Filoni are being loyal to the franchise instead of seeing it like a cash cow.

It was horrid acting but I blame the direction and the writing. I mean there were a lot of award winning actors in the prequels that suddenly seemed like bad actors.

I'll agree it was some of the writing, not necessarily all of it. I think the "origins" storyline was needed as well as to show Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker wasn't always bad. Furthermore, why family was important to him for a lot of motives.

But I also think the story was far too complex to try to smash into three movies. Hence why TCW and Rebels to an extent helped show more of the "why" than the movies could alone, especially TCW Seasons 5, 6 and 7 (though there is a huge continuity error in TCW Season 7 and Episode 3) as well as some of the video games that have become canon.

Yeah, there were things that should have been done differently especially with TPM. Pod racing could be dialed way, way, way back. No Jar Jar (let's face it, Lucas isn't known for humor and the "comic relief" fell flat from the start). Not to say everything was bad, but could have been better.

Overall, the last trilogy did cause a lot of people to look at the prequels and say "okay, I get it" especially if they watch the animated stuff as well. I tend to think TPM was the "worst" of the bunch, but it did give the rise to Obi-Wan, the Sith and the origin of Anakin. Necessary for the "big picture" so to speak.

I was disappointed in the final episode of this season. The CGI character (trying to avoid spoilers) that shows up at the end looked terrible.

Agree. I would've been ok with another actor in that role. I'm sure they could've found someone with a close resemblance

So are there any theories as to how the Thrawn storyline will play out next season? Moff Gideon was kind of lame. Hope they do the Thrawn character right.

I would’ve rather them not use CGI, but it didn’t look that bad to me

I thought so too. The only thing that took me out of the moment was a few seconds trying to decide if it was a recast or CG. The lip syncing seemed a little off when he spoke. Not saying it deserved any FX awards or anything but it was passable enough for me.

Finished season 2 tonight. Really liked it. I avoided the animated shows when they were still on air, but I did watch them before I started this season, glad I did... Tho there's was a lot of fluff built in to tcw, and rebels to a lesser extent, there was obviously a lot of back story from both playing out in this season, so that was cool.

I like the direction the story takes as it is now, pre TFA... Lots of different ways they could take it.

I didn't care about the cgi, it was good enough and the story was the most important part anyway.

Anyway, combining the mandalorian, with the meat of the stories from the animated shows... Worked great.. liked it a lot.

really really like the writing. actors were all excellent choices, esp Bo katan.

Watched Pedro Pascal in WW. Just isnt the same. He was great in Narcos. Guess WW is just that bad.

yeah, it was weird role, but good for him...it was different from what i'm used to with him.

the girl that played bo katan is in another series, i think on netflix....can't remember. anyway...she wasn't in it enough to be that annoying imo, but i get what your saying.

That's Katee Sackhoff. She was in Battlestar Galactica and she also voiced the character of Bo-Katan in The Clone Wars and Rebels.

So don't hate but I just wrapped Season 1 marathoning it in 2 days and as I type this watching the Season 2 premiere.

I have to say it's the best Star Wars stuff I ever watched. I never really got into the films the way some do I've always been a trekkie but I'd put this light years above the films and say this is the best followed by Rebels and Clone Wars.

Looking forward to Season 2.

I can tell by these threads you watch so much stuff. It’s hilarious you are just getting to this. It’s probably a shorter list of what you haven’t watched an episode of.
