The (many) indictments of Donald Trump

A sexual harassment settlement is not the same thing as hush money ... which will often involve a shakedown of completely legal and consensual activity - such as with Rick Pitino.

So do you think "sexual harassment" and "consensual activity" are mutually exclusive? Seems like consensual has sometimes become non-consensual upon further review ... like the next day when the heat of passion and/or alcohol have worn off. Seems also you believe that as long as there was some evidence of wrongdoing that the payment of money settles the issue and the NDA is of no consequence regarding the settlement; therefore, not part of the bargain to keep the "victim" hushed.

Do we have any idea who Republicans will seek to indict as retribution? I figure it's only a matter of time.

Obama for the crime of having the temerity to say, while black, that if he had had a son he would have looked like Trayvon Martin. That's clearly incitement of racial violence (at least according to the Einsteins on this board).

Retributive prosecutions are fun to talk about ... but much harder to execute. No District Attorney wants to be suspected of engaging in such a practice.

... and I would be willing to bet that most Republicans in Congress aren't really as bent out of sorts over the Trump indictment, as they would have you believe when they are on camera.

So we're pretending the Trump indictment isn't retribution? It is. The indictment was pursued because Trump is an ass that hurt feelings.

Already starting to melt down.
It’s pretty weak when you throw 30 charges at someone. All you are doing is hoping one will stick. If they had a solid case only a handful of meaningful charges would have been filed. I personally can’t stand Trump but the Democrats are obviously stupid enough to keep going after the guy when nothing else they have done minus cradle cap getting more votes in an election than Obama, yeah right!

DeSantis brands Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg a 'menace to society' and accuses him of flouting 'the rule of law' with his Trump 'agenda' - after new poll showed ex-president had TRIPLED lead Florida over governor

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis slammed Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg over the weekend, as former President Trump continued to soar past him in the polls.

In his second speech to a New York City-area audience in six weeks, DeSantis said Bragg was 'all about politics' and labeled him a 'menace to society.'

However, despite DeSantis' visits to the north, a new Yahoo News survey shows that former President Donald Trump is now polling 26 points ahead of DeSantis, more than tripling his previous lead over the Florida leader since his indictment last week.

You act as if the Republicans need to come up with actual wrongdoing or a crime to indict or convict. Clearly you don’t know how this works. Your fellow progressives have forever changed the game, just like Obama did with his Saul Alinsky approach and like Lee Atwater did before him for the GOP.

I'm interested in how he makes that time.

I've had bail money at the ready before I was even put in the cop car and I still wouldn't be out until the morning.

Indictment secrecy repeats pattern of past efforts targeting Trump

INDICTMENT SECRECY REPEATS PATTERN OF PAST EFFORTS TARGETING TRUMP. Everyone in the universe knew that an indictment of former President Donald Trump would be an explosive event in the political, legal, and media worlds. It would be something everybody talked about, dominating television, the internet, social media, radio, everything. And indeed, that has turned out to be the case.

But here's the thing: Everyone is talking about Trump's indictment, but no one knows what Trump has been indicted for. The indictment is under seal until Tuesday, and outside of a small group of local prosecutors in Manhattan, no one knows the charges against Trump — not even Trump himself. We know what has been reported in recent weeks, that the indictment could be a strained effort to convert an old misdemeanor charge against Trump into a new campaign finance-related felony, but we don't really know what the document says.
