The (many) indictments of Donald Trump

How does the fake electors thing work? Serious question, were the "fake electors" alternate electors in case one of the lawsuits filed on Trump's behalf was successful or were they planning on somehow slipping their votes into the system?
Depends on the state I think. I think the bunch in Georgia sent in paperwork to the archives or wherever they go on the federal end claiming they were the actually the electors for the state of Georgia. In other states, groups presented themselves as alternates in the event the other electors weren't certified.

Serious question, asked by a friend at Bible study last night, as neither of us really watch the news:

What is/are the exact "crimes" he was indicted/arrested for? As far as I know, claiming there was an unfair election is not an actual "crime."

@VFFL@THE BEACH should be able to quote you chapter and verse in case you should be misled by others. What got posted looked like a hash of wishful thinking from another "we got him this time" crowd. There's something like 98 pages of dem glory, and it looked like most had nothing to do with Trump - sorta like rounding up 50 husbands and lumping all their sins according to the wives into one big basket, and claiming that each is guilty of the communal lot.

All of the fake elector slates sent in their ballots. PA and one other state (Nevada?) expressly wrote in the ballot that their votes were contingent on Trump prevailing in court.

There were several schemes proposed. Based on the Eastman Memo and Trump’s speech it seems they were trying to get Pence to open the fake ballots and congress would need more than a simple majority to reject them.

The failed attempt to pivot from “just asking questions” to “take me seriously” is still one of my favorite VN memes. Don’t think it will ever get old.

I hope that makes you feel better.

As noted: I actually came to ask a simple question. And, no, I don't have to make any decision. That's up to the courts.

Just because I don't care to obsess over every story that pertains to Trump and spend all my waking hours worrying about him doesn't preclude me from posting wherever the hell I want to.
I am so sorry, I thought it was a bit naive for you. You don't have to obsess or worry. Both the potential candidates are pretty much unfit for the position.

You appear somewhat cunning in your quest to solicit information. Then as you stated that you were not going to read even though you did when provided the information and forming an opinion. You don't have to tell me how you intend to vote sounds like you have a good system to select as a lot can happen between now and the General election.

Biden will more than likely not be the Democrat's Nominee. Trump may or may not be the Republican nominee.

I'd say 90 % of the Dem party wants a different nominee than Biden whereas about half of the GOP wants a nominee other than Trump.

That means the likelihood of Trump being dethroned is much lower than Biden. You can view that as a good or a bad thing. You can view it as increasing odds for Trump to win the general. You can view it as possibly hurting the GOP's chances in other races, beyond the presidency.

It also means that the Dems are ready to turn on a dime and cast their lot in with someone else. The tumult if he's out is momentary. But if Trump is ousted, it will not be willingly, and that means a lot of angry Trumpsters within the GOP. A hole helluva lot.

Too much time to speculate which will get worse for both parties the longer it drags on and on.
Republicans are split and their success depends on independent voters.
Democrats regardless cannot afford to run Biden and Harris. Biden's health is depreciating on a daily basis and KH is not a suitable alternative for them.
There is a lot of time for both parties to pivot and put all these candidates in their rearview windows.

The filed paperwork stating "if" the legal challenges were won by Trump and the votes went for Trump the those were is electors....that why in PA the same scheme isn't being prosecuted...

Ironically, your last sentence was the same rationale which Trump was using while trying to convince Barr to arrest Biden in October of 2020.
And wrongly...it should never been about the election...just right or wrong...had the Dems done this right after 2020 instead of waiting a year before the next election, the by all means go for. If this is truly about legality then wait till after the election, prosecute or impeach...anything else is election interference

What pisses me off the most is that I sincerely wanted a different candidate from the GOP, but this whole dog and pony show seems to have galvanized Trump's base and even brought in some new, unlikely supporters.

Did any of you ever think that we don't really like Trump ... and a lot of us never have, but we are sick and tired of do nothing republicans and RINOs, and Trump has been the first anti-dem to happen in what seems like forever? The GOP has been foundering like TN football after Fulmer and before Heupel - actually even at it's worst, Vol football still made the GOP look incompetent. In fact, if QBs were GOP presidential candidates Peterman (at UT) would have far outclassed Romney and what's his name, and Guarantano would have been a star.

They are aware. Thanks for your confidence.

Weird how they aren't pushing for a speedy trial, isn't it?

A rationale person would think they'd want to exonerate Donny as quickly as possible, destroy the credibility of the courts and have him take a victory lap in rallies across the country.

Crazy how he's wanting to push it back 2026.

I hope the defense team contacts you quickly for your insight, remember - if you're good at something, don't do it for free. Get those bags whodey.

Why should he do exactly what they want?? Thier play is simple, trial shortly before election, appeal after when the election is over. No one has the ball to retroactively overturn an election. He's right to push it back and legally if the truly gave him 12 million pages of discovery then he should have the same 2 1/2 years to go thru it

Honestly, this could prove to be a genius sham move, because any other GOP candidate would win the General in a landslide. With Trump now being the likely nom, it's more of a toss up due to the TDS crowd that will literally vote for a Socialist or lifelong politician with severe dementia over him because he hurt their feelings.

If he had the receipts, he'd want to get this out from under him, move on with his campaign and revel in his victory over the DOJ and Biden.

Suggesting anything else is laughable and demonstrates a profound lack of common sense.

The mental gymnastics you're into right now in order to reconcile anything else is simply breathtaking.

Not only that but if they take Trump off ballot it'll split the GOP vote as many would write in Trump...DJT had it correct when he said the other candidates should withdraw. Let them remove him from the ballots and watch people flip out because it is then no longer an election

Nikki Haley could destroy Biden in the general.

Watch.
If I were a Democrat I would run her. She would help capture a downline vote in vulnerable Republican Areas. Abortion and independent women would also be a strong vote. She is no Hilary Clinton which is a good thing for the Democrats. That would be interesting match up between her and Trump or who ever the Republicans would nominate and may force a shift to N. Haley on the Republican side as a counter. Michelle has stated she was not interested and has no experience, but there is a lot of time to sort through the messes in both parties. Anything but the 2 we have as front runners.

Why do you want Biden re-elected so badly?

But remember when she wanted school kids to eat healthy lunches?

That was a deal breaker for many.
