The (many) indictments of Donald Trump

Meet The ‘Badass’ Lawyer Who Could Blow Up Trump Racketeering Case Over Fani Willis’ Sex Secrets

Ashleigh Merchant never stops running — and that has embattled Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis running scared.

The “badass” Georgia criminal defense attorney, 46, who runs marathons in her spare time, will be front and center at a hearing in Atlanta Thursday that could upend the sprawling election meddling and racketeering case against former President Donald Trump and others.

In August, a Fulton County grand jury returned a 41-count indictment accusing Trump and 18 co-defendants of plotting to reverse the former president’s 2020 electoral loss in Georgia. Willis has been leading the investigation.

Then Merchant filed a bombshell motion on January 8 on behalf of her client, GOP political operative Mike Roman, 52, alleging that Willis had an “improper” and “clandestine” relationship with Nathan Wade, whom Willis appointed as a special prosecutor — and demanding that Willis’ charges against Roman be dropped.

Merchant, who was just sworn in as president of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, argued that Willis should be disqualified from the case because “the district attorney chose to appoint her romantic partner, who at all times relevant to this prosecution has been a married man.”

Merchant contended that Wade, an attorney with the Marietta, Ga.-based Wade & Campbell Firm, used some of the nearly $654,000 in legal fees that he’s been paid by the Fulton County DA’s Office for his work on the Trump case to take Willis on lavish vacations to “Napa Valley, California, Florida and the Caribbean.”

On Thursday, Willis and Wade face a high-stakes hearing on whether their relationship is a conflict of interest, which Merchant says should lead to the end of the case against her client, and by implication, Trump and the others.

Willis may be forced to testify about when her relationship with Wade began, the judge presiding over the Trump case, Scott McAfee, said Monday.

Thursday and Friday’s scheduled two-day hearing will showcase carefully honed skills, her friends said.

“Ashleigh’s one helluva lawyer, a real pit bull,” Dwight Thomas, 72, one of Atlanta’s most powerful and respected criminal defense lawyers, told The Post.

“There’s a lot riding on this hearing and she will be more than ready for it, I can assure you.”

To make matters worse for Willis, Republican lawmakers in Georgia said Friday that multiple employees from the DA’s office are eager to testify against their boss in a special Senate fact-finding investigation.

She is also being investigated by Georgia’s Prosecuting Attorneys’ Qualifications Commission, and US Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has subpoenaed her for documents about allegations that Willis fired a whistleblower from her office and misused federal funds.

BREAKING: Trump says Judge Engoron has already leaked to the media that he might likely rule against him in New York on Friday, concluding that he committed fraud, faked the value of his assets to get favorable loans and deprived New York of hundreds of millions of dollars.

He wrote, “It has been leaked all over the place to the fake news media, probably by the corrupt judge and/or attorney general, that a decision on the never used before (for such purpose!) consumer fraud statute, that has been illegally weaponized against me, will be released on Friday.

“Judge Engoron wrongfully ruled against me before the trial even started, said that Mar-a-Lago was only worth $18,000,000, and was already overturned four times on appeal, a record.

“This crooked judgement will be a dark and sad day for the justice system in New York state. No damages, no victims - only success. Case already won on appeal... Witch hunt!!! Election interference!!!”

My take: But even as the ruling against Trump is anticipated in New York and may be overturned on appeal, the question remains; who actually lost money? Who is the victim? Who was defrauded since the loans were paid back with interest? Who is the injured party?

All credibility of the report goes in the trash when the claims are based on, "Trump says"

Trump will go on trial in another case on March 25. Delicious. Hard to keep track of them all--but he's such a sweet, lovely man; a shame
that everybody wants to persecute him.

Imagine the legal bills that lowlife ex prez has racked up over the last year or two--and will rack up going forward. The GOP will be relying heavily
on the rubes to pay his bills! More trading cards?

Meanwhile....

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis Started Her Romantic Relationship With Her Prosecutor 'lover' Nathan Wade Three Years Earlier than they stated, her college friend claimed in dramatic testimony

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis began her romantic relationship with her prosecutor 'lover' Nathan Wade in late 2019, three years earlier than they claimed in a court filing, her college friend told a court in bombshell testimony Friday.

It would mean the relationship began before Wade was hired in the Georgia election interference case Willis is pursuing against Donald Trump – and could provide a reason for a judge to disqualify them from the case.

Robin Yeartie's testimony directly contradicts information provided by Willis and Wade that the relationship did not begin until after Wade was hired in November 2021.

Yeartie told the court there was 'no doubt' Willis and Wade were in a romantic relationship before the hiring, and confirmed that she was 'certain' about it.

Willis' office just lost the motion to quash after a witness testified that Wade and Willis had a relationship going back to 1999. Wade is now on the stand in what is now a highly perilous moment for him professionally. Willis' office misplayed the challenge in my view.

...Wade just said that all of the money that Willis allegedly repaid him for flights and other expenses were paid to him in cash. Thus, he has no receipts or proof of the repayments...

...He submitted only one receipt of evidence for a repayment claim.

...He just testified, in discussing the California trip, that there was never a time when he asked for specific reimbursement but that the repayments in case "balanced out" in her paying other expenses. She also allegedly gave him some cash.

...Wade said "in a relationship particularly for men . . . you don't keep a ledger." He insists that she paid her own way in other ways than direct payments.

Craig Gillen is asking Wade about his answers in an interrogatory in the prior divorce proceeding. He is showing that his answers on the document appears clearly false...

...That is significant since he and Wade are prosecuting defendants in this case for making false statements and filing false material with courts...

...Wade just said that he does not only lack receipts but a deposit slip for the cash that Willis paid him for trips like the one to Belize...

...This was almost $3000 that Wade said was paid back by Willis. When asked if he stored all of the cash in his house, Wade said that you are putting me in jeopardy if he admitted to having cash at a house in Fulton County...

Cohen, Trump's former attorney, told Trump that Stormy Daniels was going to come after him publicly to do damage to his campaign run and Cohen suggested that Trump just pay her to shut her up. As it turns out Cohen was the one having an affair with Stormy Daniels and Cohen wanted out of it so he offered her a payout....The money he took from Trump.

Now let the court games begin.

Considering the source. Fake News.
Why would Trump admit that he authorized pay off?
Searching for the truth you are not.

Your statement makes absolutely NO sense.

The idea that the gangster didn't know that money was being paid to Daniels is laughable. This is a man who has a long history of not wanting to pay anybody anything; a long history of cheating people out of money he owes them; a long history of dunning goobers (hello MAGA!) for money to pay his legal and other bills despite always bragging about how rich he is. (Yea, he's a fraud.) So of course he knew Daniels was being paid---it was his decision--and why she was being paid. Let's not be stupid and naive.

Clay Travis is stupid. He's a yokel.

And so is Fani Willis for hiring her boyfriend to be lead prospecutor in a huge case. She engaged in misconduct. She and Wade insist that the two only started seeing each other after she appointed him lead prosecutor. I don't really believe that. What's doubly stupid is that Wade isn't qualified to be the lead prosecutor on a case like this--he has no big-case criminal/political background at all. His legal background is all in minor stuff. That may suggest that the two were seeing each other prior to his appointment.

So it all looks bad--BUT it should have no bearing on the case against Trump. The facts against Trump are the facts against Trump. Who Willis is sleeping with is not relevant to the case. It's not like she was sleeping with one of Trump's attorneys. We'll see what the judge decides. Certainly, Wade should be pulled from the case, and Willis deserves to lose her job at some point. And Trump deserves to be tried and convicted for his crimes in the state of Georgia.
