The Masters Tournament

Monday and Tuesday are my favorite days to go. By Wednesday, it's feeling compressed because the course shuts down for the Par 3 Tournament. Then it's just a different vibe altogether on Thurs and Friday. The weekend is for the birds unless you're ok with sitting in one place all day.

You're the only person I've known who makes the weekends sound terrible.

It's not terrible. It's just something I've done and don't like as much compared to other days.

I'm going to see the course, eat everything on the menu and buy a bunch of crap. If I can do that, and don't get to see a single golf shot, I imagine I'll be happy.

We went Wed. last year and it was pretty cool to see Jack, Gary and Arnold tee off to kick off the tourney. So I am excited to see what it's like tomorrow. Plus we can take a camera in tomorrow and get some shots of the course.

That's precisely why I like practice rounds better. It's the only venue in sports that outshines the actual event. The course is one of the few things you'll ever see that exceeds your expectations. By the weekend, it becomes impossible to see everything.

About 10 years ago, I figured out that Jack, Gary and Arnold were coming down 10 during a practice round and I made my Dad walk up to the 11th tee which is out of the way. We were the only people up there and there was a delay. For about 10 minutes, I was having a conversation with Jack, Arnold, Gary and my Dad. It was like a weird dream.

Agreed. The course can't possibly be accurately conveyed to someone who's never seen it before. The whole experience of going to Augusta National is one of the few things I've experienced which has vastly exceeded my expectations, which is amazing considering how high my expectations were to begin with. IMO it's the best spectator experience in all of sports.

Pics or it didn't happen :) j/k GA, very cool.

I don't know what everything is, and I've seen nothing, so finally getting to see something is fine with me.

#11 tee is the one at the very bottom of the course where as you come down the hill you have to turn to the left and almost walk back into the woods, right?

That's pretty awesome story. Things like that you will never forget.

I think the bottom is actually down around 13 tee, but yeah. The 11th tee is up in a chute to the left when you leave 10 green.

You're not going to believe how immaculate it all is. Then you'll get down to 12-16 and it hits a whole different level of awe.

P.S. - Bring sunglasses and allergy pills. The pollen is insane down here right now.

That's what I thought. We hung out at that tee for a little while a couple years ago and it was pretty secluded. We were making our way backwards from Amen Corner, and climbing back up #10 sucked. The elevation change from tee to green on that hole is impressive.

May as well try everything. As I recall, that BBQ sandwich is the most expensive thing on the menu, and it's just $3. The chocolate chip cookies are also fantastic.

The concessions are good & reasonably priced. Everything in the souvenir shop not so much.

The steepness of the hill on 10/18 is almost shocking the first time you see it.

Really? Prices for merchandise there is very reasonable vs other tournaments

I've found that to be true too. They could charge whatever they want, but their prices are the same that you pay at other events and maybe even cheaper than some US Opens and PGAs I've been to. I was in the Pro Shop at Pinehurst last year and they already had a wing filled with US Open stuff and it was absolutely ridiculous.

Had a good time yesterday. I liked the fact we were able to take our camera in and get some pictures. Followed Phil for a little bit and got some good pictures of him playing a few holes. After being there yesterday though I think I prefer the actual round vs the practice round.

Course looks in great shape, as always. Too bad about the Eisenhower tree. The reporters seem convinced that they will consider putting a bunker in on 17, instead.
