Observing multiple shots on 16 must be a treat. I expected more comments about amen corner, but the golfers probably don't have a good time on those holes during practice or the tournament.
Seeing the players practice loose and interacting with the crowds must be as good as watching the real thing during the four actual rounds.
where the fans stand for Amen is quite a way from the green so it isnt as easy to watch as others.
The players will hit multiple shots everywhere but on 16 the crowd chants 'skip it'. Most will, a few wont. Its a way for fans to see another side of these pros where it takes some skill as well as luck to skip it onto the green. A couple of years ago Vijay skipped it not only across the water but into the hole. The hole has bleachers all the way down the side then fans can crowd around the green and watch them putt at a relatively close distance. About six years ago if you remember Tiger was on 16 and made that crazy putt that went up hill then back down hovering on the edge of the cup and finally fell in. While it looked unbelievable, I watched him in the practice round take that putt multiple times. He'd throw a tee down and place the ball then putt. All from that same spot. It wasnt lucky he made that shot on Sunday - he knew exactly what that ball would do.
What are good restaurants around there? Nice downtown? How long to Augusta from Knoxville?
Thanks
Thanks for the 4-1-1. This is the first forum where posters have taken the time to explain things us ordinary folks would never see on the tube.
The more I read the more fun it must be to attend practice rounds instead of the real thing. It must give the fans a chance to see the human side of a player. What's boring for one person is super interesting for another.
One question, are there rules regarding children (12 and under) during the practice week?
It's really the way to go if you've never been there because it's one of the few sporting events you'll ever see where it's as much about seeing the venue as it is seeing the players. It's more laid back, less crowded and you have time to take it all in. The first time you go, you spend the first couple of hours just looking around at the scenery with your mouth wide open. The more I read the more fun it must be to attend practice rounds instead of the real thing.
week?
Not wanting to spam so I'll just say that Augusta has it's own magazine. Saw some tasty opinions there one can reasonably digest. wink.gif
