The Masters

I'm not just trying to be argumentative but I don't think Whistling Straits would make many folks top 10 in courses to play or courses they have played. I've never played it just going by what I see on tv.

TV doesn't do it justice. I've got an Uncle who lives in Tampa. He and his brother trek to Wisconsin once a year, every year.

The AA club makes my personal #1 place to go play golf. Unbelievable courses and WS is the best of them. That's saying something with the two Blackwolf Run tracks on board.

Just applied for 2012 Saturday and Sunday tickets. Doubt I will get them because it is a random drawing, but I'm excited about the possibility, nonetheless...

But his irons have failed him too. Lack of reps appeared to be the main issue. It is his putting and wedging that wins, but he was the best iron player ever for about 10 years. He's not today.

He was the best iron player in the game, but I disagree as to the best iron player ever. There have been lots of guys who were as good with their irons as Woods.

Always a wise way of forming one's opinion.

Anytime you play a course where if you miss a fairway you should assume you're in a bunker is rather ridiculous. Nobody has to be there in person to have seen that.

no but if you play it in person, and have any doubt the caddy that's mandatory can clear up any confusion...

Kohler is the golf mecca of the Midwest, you should try it

Don't know why that was such a big deal. If you go look at the video, Johnson was clearly in a rather large area that was cut out and had sand in it and there was a very clear local rule.

You should probably stop talking out of your ass.

Well it obviously wasn't a clear local rule & the official walking with them should have stepped in & made it clear. Anywhere else that would be a waste area but because they can't take the time & identify a bunker from a patch of dirt they just make a broad local rule. I'm sure the course is nice other than the silly bunkering. I've never seen a bunker that wasn't clearly identified.

You can't look at the video of that shot and tell me that it wouldn't cross your mind that you were in a bunker.

other pros were in the locker room watching the TV and literally saying out loud "don't ground it."

Based on the local rule I might could see it crossing his mind but common sense would say a patch of dirt where people were standing that resembled nothing of a bunker surely wouldn't be one. I mean you're on a hillside with weeds all around you so how on earth could there be a bunker there. It's moot at this point but I still say that's about the worst major championship venue I've ever seen. I didn't like it a few years ago when Vijay won either. I'm sure Dustin Johnson feels the same as me & so do a lot of other people. You're entitled to your opinion same as me. We won't have to worry about that crap this week.

It's not the rules officials job to interject. This article from ESPN makes it pretty clear. Unfortunately, DJ should have known better. He'd questioned the rules official before during the round.

"All he had to do was ask," Price said. "He'd asked me before that. He'd been in a bunch of bunkers. You don't remind a player on every hole that you can't ground your club."
- Price

PGA rules official David Price on chain of events leading to Dustin Johnson's penalty - ESPN Dallas

DJ even admitted it was his fault. Nothing else to argue at that point.

The players are given the rules before the tourney. If the y don't know them, its on them.

To argue that makes the course garbage or stupid or whatever else idiotic comments were made is, well, idiotic.

He also said he would have never thought he was hitting out of a bunker. It's pretty f'n IDIOTIC to have to consider every patch of dirt on the course a bunker when it hasn't been raked, has people in it, & it's basically a bare patch in the rough on the side of a hill. You would be better off just saying the entire course is a waste area. When u can pull up a clump of grass & say u made a bunker something is wrong.

I love the Opens and the PGA but the Masters is the daddy for me, IMO it just doesn't get any better than Saturday and Sunday at Augusta.

Phil has probably got to be the favorite going in and I wouldn't mind seeing him win a fourth green jacket, but I don't think he gets it done this week (just a feeling). I'd really like to see Steve Stricker win it.

Some players I think have a great shot at giving Phil a run this year at Augusta:

Anthony Kim - He's got the talent and his game is starting to come around after his injury plus he played really well and contended at last years Masters.

Steve Stricker - His length from the tee will hurt him some but his short game is top notch, dude can chip it and putt it with the best of them.

Dustin Johnson - He's got the length and the game but, can he make the pressure putts on Augusta's greens ?

Tim Clark - Dude is like a machine hitting fairways and greens, if he's rolling it well this week he's got a shot.

Matt Kutchar - He's on a roll, consistantly playing the best golf of anyone on tour.

Ernie Els - Always seems to play well at Augusta, is certainly capable of winning.

Fred Couples - He's a longshot for sure, but he loves Augusta and plays like it, don't know if he can hold up for 4 rounds at this stage but it's not out of the question.

Tiger Woods - His game is a wreck, but it's Tiger Woods and it's Augusta, no way you can count him out.
