The mighty Gators

Really it is the first game. Remember there is no preseason in the NCAA...look Oklahoma barely beat Utah State. Nobody is saying anything about Bob Stoops. We will see in a couple of weeks if the issues have resolved. A lot of the starters were out so we had plenty of young guys in there. 15 true freshmen played on Saturday. I expect them to come out big on Saturday to make amends for that lackluster performance on Saturday.

errr. . . the oklahoma board has been in full meltdown for 2 days now

Put it this way:

UF played their worst 3 quarters on offense in more than 40 YEARS! They only had 25 yards of offense at the end of 3.

Then the 4th quarter started, the snaps got better, the mistakes stopped (for the most part) and UF rolled up 187 yards of offense in one quarter.

Really the 4th quarter is how UF probably would have looked all game without the bad snaps.

yeah but I wouldn't put too much stock in that hail marry TD pass either. even Urban didn't look too happy with Brantley throwing into what quadruple coverage UF just got the lucky bounce with a catch.

It was 4th and 21. Brantley just threw it up there and Rainey made a play.

That fluke TD cancels out at least a couple errant center snaps right?

Even when the snaps were good they still got dominated for 3 qtrs. I think you will see a different team this week but the snaps were far from the only problem for the gators offense. Their defense wasnt as dominant as I would have expected either.

Florida was really lucky Miami (oh) coaches didnt believe what they were seeing either. The chances they were taking were idiotic, throwing the ball downfield and faking punts. Miami could have easily led that game going into the 4th. How about scooping and scoring on that 1st fumble?

If that's true then you guys are in for a worse than expected season. The better teams on your schedule will have good enough athletes to not allow many 72 yard runs or 4th and a mile TD's. If you had been playing a team that was much better than Miami... you'd be 0-1.

As much as I hate it, UF will probably get their act together, us that moral "loss" as a rallying point, and have a very good season.

Five botched center snaps usually don't happen either.

If I were a Gator fan (forcing the vomit back down), those snaps wouldn't be one of my bigger concerns. Your OL did not play well against a team that was 1-11 last fall in the MAC. CFN predicted them to finish last in the MAC East Division behind:
- Akron who got thumped by Syracuse
- BGU who lost to Troy
- Ohio, Kent, Temple, and Buffalo who won over FCS schools but won't be mistaken for BCS busters any time soon.

Your D made them look credible in the passing game.

I personally hope this is a foreshadow of things to come... but more than likely it is just a wake up call. Then again, it hasn't been that long ago that UF could sleep walk to 60 pts against a team like Miami OH.

The biggest concern is offensive play calling, followed by o-line play (three starters were out) and finally the botched snaps.

I'm not concerned at all with the defense. We got pressure outside and up the middle with the front four, our linebackers played well, and our secondary picked off 3 passes, returning 1 for a td.

after getting open handed pimp slapped by US he will whine about how life sucks with out Teblow, retire right after the press conference, watch a day of practice, get rejuvenated after watching practice, announce that his retirement is over..... Oh wait he has already done that lol history will repeat itself!!!!

It was actually 4, but that's beside the point...

The biggest concern is not playcalling. I get so fricken tired of gator fans blaming play calling. For 10 years, it's always been the play calling.

The problem was BLOCKING. The perimeter blocking was TERRIBLE, and the OL had a really bad game as well.

Now, with the OL, there is an excuse. Third String OG John Halapio was making his first career start, and had a bad bad day. Maurice Hurt, the back up guard was playing OT for almost the entire game, and he struggled mightily, and James Wilson in a different position as well, and then he got hurt.

It wasn't the game plan. it was a bunch of bad snaps, followed by worse blocking, and then shell shock.

But UF got their crap together and blocked much better in the 4th.

Thus = 187 yards.

They'll be fine.

The Gators had 25 yards of total offense going into the third quarter against a team that's won all of 5 games in the last 3 seasons. This same team has only been to 2 bowl games in the last 24 seasons.

14 of Joh Brantley's 17 completions were on passes under 10 yards.

It wasn't until the 4th quarter, when Miami of Ohio was worn out and tired, that the Gators were able to move the ball.

Translation: The play calling was horrid.

And if the UF staff can't get a stockpile of studs to physically dominate a team as horrid as Miami of Ohio, then the entire staff needs cleaned out. That's pathetic.

Easy there, sumi.

Your frustration is justified, however, no need to get your frontrunderwear in a bunch.

The talent is fine. Major player and coaching staff changes were expected to cause serious issues, just not this serious.

Meyer, Gator players and coaches have earned some good faith, IMO. Let's just wait, see, and hope they exhibit the drastic improvement week to week that most of us expect.

This team should be way better in November than it is showing right now. Just like Tennessee, fsu, and nd to mention a few.

I think we agree about the o-line, and I agree about the WRs not blocking downfield.

But once it's established that your WRs can't block, yet you still keep calling screen passes, that my friend is a coaching issue.

SIAP - didn't make it through the whole thread but:

When I saw the OP's screen name I figured it's either a Bama fan or a sexually adventurous girl...

Random question for Gators. It appears DT Edwin Herbert is no longer on your roster. What happened to him?
