The murder of Ahmaud Arbery

It’s probably leverage to get him to testify or make sure he testifies.

His apparent statement to investigators that he and the father and son were in cars trying to pin the guy in is interesting because on the one hand it shows a length of time passed as they tried to force a confrontation, but on the other hand suggests they thought he was engaging in criminal conduct. That would not excuse their actions, but would give context and explain motive.

But, as pointed out before, this is the result when private persons arm themselves and take it upon themselves to "catch" what they would contend are law breakers.

Think about the trial emotionally and procedurally:

The video is emotionally impactful. It’ll suck the air out of the courtroom.

Now, in a criminal trial with hearsay and confrontation clause issues, can they even get the video into evidence without Bryan testifying? Probably? Maybe?

He’s also the best eyewitness to the events and he’s a friend to the defendant so he might not want to cooperate.

Charging him makes a ton of strategic sense, IMO:

“We can make probable cause. Which means we can have a trial and your fate will rest in the hands of 12 total strangers. If you don’t cooperate, we’re going to have that trial and you might lose and go to prison forever. If you testify, we’ll make sure you get some better outcome than dying in prison.”

Every single prosecutor I’ve ever dealt with would bring that charge at the first sign that he might be a squeamish witness.

Question for the real attorneys on here. (Not the couch lawyers.) Do any of you think that any of these guys will risk going to trial given all the evidence pointed against them? Personally I don’t and I think they plead out but am interested in more expert opinion and not Cousin Bubba’s.

The state has to agree to plead them to a lesser charge. Sometimes they won’t agree to something that the defendant can live with.

Of course race had nothing to do with it.
I'm no expert but I believe that when most people kill another person a pejorative term is used regarding their race and/or gender (all 100 of them).

I remember dropping a few choice words to a woman and some kids throwing rocks at me in Iraq. Luckily their limp wristed throwing style was on par with their gun aim.

What are you talking about? Bragging about shooting kids and women throwing rocks?

Wow you are a tough guy. lmao

Lol. I was in the air force. Do you think they let me have bullets for my gun?

I threw rocks back at them. It was pretty fun. I also tossed a few slurs their way, its a heat of the moment type thing. But just so you know, it was a diverse group of us all doing it.

Yea who do we know that regularly shoots kids and throws rocks?

oops

The police?

Tamir Rice ring a bell?
They dont throw rocks though. They use the rubber bullets and stuff like that.

Ok I was confused. Sounded like you were saying you shot kids for throwing rocks.

No matter how mad I have been I have never called someone from another race a slur in anger. I think that is just one of the lowest things to do and the last resort of someone who can not express themselves any other way. Just my opinion.

Outside of a warzone I dont think I have. 40 years of right wing hate is hard to sift through.

.

Tamir Rice got shot because of Tamir Rice; I have witnessed many a dead child that were shot not by police, but by driveby shootings in certain neighborhoods.

Maybe... maybe not. At this point, whatever happened after the shots were fired has nothing to do with what lead up to the event.

Was this after Bryan drove up further to the scene and how long after was this said? I doubt he could have heard that from inside his truck 25 or 50 yds away from the incident. Would not surprise me though if it were said at some point after Arbery was shot. Like you said, changes nothing leading up to the shooting.

He was shot because of the quick trigger against black victims.

Look at the Walmart shoot a few years back. They shot a black dude buying a bb gun. Yet we have full open carry with black masks on from white guys and no shootings magically.

DO you really not understand that in both situations, police were called (BY MINORITIES) because Rice was pointing his gun at the heads of others saying "i'm gonna shoot you N*****" (This was proven on tape and eyewitness testimony), and a guy called 911 to claim Crawford had pointed a gun at several people inside the walmart (he didn't but he wasn't "buying it" he took it out of its package and started playing with it)

If they had been white, the same things would have occurred. And "open carry laws" doesn't mean you take a gun and point it at others
