The murder of Ahmaud Arbery

He was shot because of the quick trigger against black victims.

Look at the Walmart shoot a few years back. They shot a black dude buying a bb gun. Yet we have full open carry with black masks on from white guys and no shootings magically.
You forget the part where Rice was pointing a gun at people. How about you drive up to a scene where someone has a gun, give commands to drop it and as they reach for it have seconds to decide if its real or fake. Or how about Rice doesnt point an object that looks real at people and tell them hes going to shoot them. How about Rice is home where he should be and the event never happens. At some point you need to look objectively and realize Rice shoulders half the blame for his own death.
I won't comment on the other incident because I dont know what happened

The state has to agree to plead them to a lesser charge. Sometimes they won’t agree to something that the defendant can live with.
Thanks for the clarification. Just an opinion but I’m thinking the state may not want an explosive situation or getting a hung jury because of one stubborn juror and will offer a plea deal. But that’s just me. Guess we’ll see.

Potentially. Those decisions often depend on the prosecutor’s evaluation of the case, political pressure, etc. I think they can can retry the case if the jury cant reach a verdict, but you’re probably right that there probably would be some unrest.

I've watched some, and read some (news) of the hearing today. It's not good for all 3 defendants, I learned some things I didn't know, and heard / read a few things I had been told were going to be revealed.

And I have to go quiet, on both this and other things happening right now. It is what it is.

Football cannot get here soon enough.

Go Vols.

At least there is still one thing that unites us.

GO VOLS!

Been listening to the probable cause hearing all morning. Interesting stuff. It is clear that Roddy Bryan is angling to turn State's evidence. The McMichaels may not be completely screwed, but they're working their way there.

No surprises there. Next big issue is venue. While that plays out, we'll see what happens with DA 's Johnson, Barnhill, and the Glynn County PD. The latter three should be settled no later than the November elections. Venue is simply a matter of matching the population and demographics, of which there's no way all four sides will agree, and in the end it makes little if any difference anyway. The evidence is damning.

At some point, the Feds will announce a press conference. That's when it will get really interesting.

Just curious, do you know anything about this case?

He Was Found Dead In A Gym Mat In 2013. His Parents Are Still Fighting To Know What Happened.

A little bit. This is to the west of me. There is quite a bit of info out there on the 'net, so try not to focus too much on any one source. That being said...

I don't see foul play here. He was a "jock", and they tend to stick together, regardless of demographics. I think he went head-first (vertical) into the gym mat to try to retrieve his shoes; got stuck; and you know the rest. I completely understand the pain of his parents, and I understand their inability to believe that it was simply a tragic accident. But it's not unusual at all for (a) the clocks on security cameras to be off by a matter of minutes or even hours, or (b) forensic pathologists (especially paid ones) to differ on cause and manner of death. It's interesting that his parents were eventually sued; lost; and paid a large settlement over all of this. That's one of the first times I've ever heard of that.

Tragic. But accidental. Then again, I've been wrong before.

You ever catch any of these?

1000 Ways to Die (TV Series 2008–2012) - IMDb

Now it's a show so the reenactments played up the given scenarios (often with some pretty dark humor) but it's my understanding the actual causes of death cited are legit. Many are straight up Darwin Award types and you'd imagine but some are just insanely bad fortune. It happens.

I don't think so. Mind you, even in a largely rural agency like mine, and even being part-time now, I see things I wish I hadn't seen all too often. I'll spare you the details, and I know there are those among us who watch COPS, LivePD, and World's Scariest Police Chases (we have a few videos on there, BTW, and one is mine), but as for me, I use my downtime to unwind and decompress. I will admit to watching 48 Hours, which I love, but for the most part I try to keep "work" and "home" as far apart as I can.

Maybe that's part of why...at 20 years and counting...I'm not burned-out or jaded. I can still see both sides, and I still believe "Serve and Protect" is what it's all about. I figure I've got a year, maybe two left in me. I want to make them count for something. Something good.

My favorite was the guy in the burn ward 95% burned after falling asleep smoking a cigarette and burning his house down. He then conned a nurse to wheel him outside so he could smoke, set his bandages on fire by accident, and exploded his oxygen bottle.

Yep, remembered that one. The weirdest that came to my mind was how some lady was getting her picture taken from multiple people and the flashing set off a light sensitive sneezing reaction that literally killed her. There was some weird shiz went down on that show.

I used to have the stomach for those when I was younger. But I don't anymore. All the carnage that I've been indirectly ( emphasis on the indirect part) exposed to has made things like that really tough to watch
