The murder of Ahmaud Arbery

I know this isn’t a popular opinion, I just don’t think this applies. They had every right to follow him or chase him through the neighborhood in order to identify him to the police that they had called and we’re waiting on. They did not have the right to threaten him with a gun. When one of the guys got out of the truck with a gun, that’s where it all goes wrong. Imo this should be manslaughter and they should get the max for being stupid and causing Aubrey’s death.
The jury has seen evidence that Gregory McMichael was yelling “stop or I’ll blow your ******* head off!” Travis McMichael admitted that it happened during the clip I watched of his testimony.

I don’t see how it’s even a close call on aggravated assault.

Ahmaud Arbery case: Black Armed militias Gathered outside the courthouse, Issue Warning

Black armed militias rallied outside the Georgia courthouse Monday where three White men are on trial for the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed Black man – and a New Black Panther leader allegedly issued a threat.

"Ya'll are in serious trouble because the wrath of karma is coming on America," said a man who identified himself as the supreme commander of the New Black Panther militia. "We're not taking it no more."

The majority were in black combat gear and women as well as men were toting the long guns. Some wore black berets, others were in tactical helmets and goggles

I was just looking up the definition of felony murder since that was being tossed around

What is it, exactly? I'm under the impression that it's when you commit a felony that leads to a death, but that's just based on the context under which I've heard it used.

Have black pastors been banned from the court room for the reading of the verdict? I specified the race of the pastors, only because one of the defense attorneys in this case, has made their race a central issue on multiple occasions. I guess that means that any white pastors who wish to attend are good to go?

The jury has reached a verdict. That they decided so soon doesn't bode well for the defendants IMO. Evidently there wasn't many questions in the minds of the jurors.

What counts specifically?

Jurors found Travis McMichael guilty of murder Wednesday for chasing and fatally shooting Ahmaud, a 25-year-old Black man, as he jogged last year through a neighborhood in Glynn County, Georgia.
McMichael now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Jurors convicted him of one count of malice murder and four counts of felony murder
He has also been indicted on three separate federal hate crime charges, which include interference with rights, attempted kidnapping and using, carrying, brandishing, and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. McMichael pleaded not guilty to the federal charges.
The federal trial is set to take place in February. Since he was being held on the state charges, there has been no federal bond hearing yet. If convicted on the federal charges, he could face an additional penalty of up to life in prison.

From FOX:

"Jurors found Travis McMichael guilty of malice murder, four counts of felony murder, two counts of aggrevated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit a felony.

Jurors found Greg McMichael guilty of four counts of felony murder, two counts of aggrevated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit a felony. Jurors found him not guilty on charges of malice murder.

Jurors also found the McMichaels' neighbor, William "Roddie" Bryan, guilty of felony murder and not guilty on other charges, including aggrevated assault."

I think the jury nailed it just right.

American jurors are two for two on these big trials this week.

How do you get convicted of 4 counts of felony murder for killing one person?

All four assume different applications of the law to the evidence. They can only be sentenced under the highest level charge, but it allows for an appelate court to overturn some verdicts while allowing the others to stand.

As always, of course.
