Here's the problem with situations like these in the current climate, I use the word current loosely as this has been the case for dozens of years.
The African American, Hispanic and others who feel marginalized or distrustful of authority take a very hard anti posture towards the establishment. Partly because of their distrust of law enforcement and their willingness to accept the word or narrative of the victim or his or her advocates.
Those who support law enforcement back them for to their experience or knowledge and are winning to take the word or narrative of law enforcement.
Often the truth is in the middle but recently we've seen some high profile cares where emotion got the best of everyone. People with agendas immediately start pushing a narrative. A good example recently is of the Brown case, "hands up don't shoot" which turned out to be a farce. The Trayvon case which is much more complicated. And a number of other less covered cases.
And more we have this case, with video. And still we have different opinions. Some say this was execution, others say self defense. I don't see how the shooter can claim a classic case if self defense. It's clear to me the deceased initiated physical contact but only after confronted. This isn't a slam dunk case, it's complicated IMO. They should have never confronted this man but they did, and when he reacted to the threat he perceived, for whatever reason, he went after the shooter and the shooter was forced into either shooting or losing the weapon and risking being shot. He caused that series of events by his own actions and deserves to pay a price.
Now do I believe this guy was out jogging as his family is saying? Probably not given his past and the fact he looked like the guy who many had seen in the neighborhood. Even if he was the guy it really doesn't matter, he still deserved due process under the law. Instead these two knuckleheads went into this full of adrenaline cowboy style and really messed up. They took a life when it wasn't necessary and will soon pay the price. But I've seen people call this a lynching, that they were white supremacists etc. All this rhetoric does nothing to promote or further justice, it just makes it harder to achieve. It's no better than calling the victim a gang banging thug. The truth and details are what is most important. We as a society would be wise to lay off the rhetoric and let the facts come out and fall where they may.
