The murder of Ahmaud Arbery

If anyone is interested in checking out a case where an attempted "citizen's arrest" turned into charges of aggravated kidnapping and assault, check out State v Michael Wayne Parsons. It's from Tipton County, near Memphis. It's a really interesting case, because the defendant liked to make audio recordings of his entire life. So he captured the audio of the assault he committed, his attempts to cover up his actions, and his entire trial. All of this is on Youtube. If you have a lot of time to kill, here's Part 1.
as stated in another thread, these sovereign citizen types are so mentally ill

Here's the problem with situations like these in the current climate, I use the word current loosely as this has been the case for dozens of years.

The African American, Hispanic and others who feel marginalized or distrustful of authority take a very hard anti posture towards the establishment. Partly because of their distrust of law enforcement and their willingness to accept the word or narrative of the victim or his or her advocates.

Those who support law enforcement back them for to their experience or knowledge and are winning to take the word or narrative of law enforcement.

Often the truth is in the middle but recently we've seen some high profile cares where emotion got the best of everyone. People with agendas immediately start pushing a narrative. A good example recently is of the Brown case, "hands up don't shoot" which turned out to be a farce. The Trayvon case which is much more complicated. And a number of other less covered cases.

And more we have this case, with video. And still we have different opinions. Some say this was execution, others say self defense. I don't see how the shooter can claim a classic case if self defense. It's clear to me the deceased initiated physical contact but only after confronted. This isn't a slam dunk case, it's complicated IMO. They should have never confronted this man but they did, and when he reacted to the threat he perceived, for whatever reason, he went after the shooter and the shooter was forced into either shooting or losing the weapon and risking being shot. He caused that series of events by his own actions and deserves to pay a price.

Now do I believe this guy was out jogging as his family is saying? Probably not given his past and the fact he looked like the guy who many had seen in the neighborhood. Even if he was the guy it really doesn't matter, he still deserved due process under the law. Instead these two knuckleheads went into this full of adrenaline cowboy style and really messed up. They took a life when it wasn't necessary and will soon pay the price. But I've seen people call this a lynching, that they were white supremacists etc. All this rhetoric does nothing to promote or further justice, it just makes it harder to achieve. It's no better than calling the victim a gang banging thug. The truth and details are what is most important. We as a society would be wise to lay off the rhetoric and let the facts come out and fall where they may.

Good post. I see no reason to believe he wasn't out jogging though since his former coach and family said he does that often. He was certainly jogging in the video. He appeared to be wearing wearing jogging attire, loose shirt and shorts. If it turns out he was wearing wing tips I may change my stance.

And somebody who lives one street over is saying he was frequently seen jogging in the area.

If my dad burst in and said grab your gun we're going after that guy I believe I would have sat him down and gave him reasons why we weren't. Number one on the list would have been we might get killed.

A former cop and investigator charged with murder, at the least gets manslaughter, and staring time in the face? Yeah, he’s gonna be on the business end of something in prison.

I think it is pretty safe to say Mr. Arbery would still be alive if those guys were not out policing the neighborhood with guns in the back of a pick up.
Yea, and the thing that absolutely amazes me is the guys that come in this thread that don't care about it, slinging political affiliation and race insults because most everyone is taking up for the dead black guy that was shot and killed by yahoos that give gun owners, like them and me a bad name.

Is this really even a story outside of here and left wing twitter?

I think it deserves attention and these two guys were in the wrong. However, and I’m not trying to side bar this thread with this particular event again as it was discussed earlier, but it is incredibly sad that the Christian/Newsome case didn’t get 1/1,000th of the media attention that this event has. Any honest person has to ask why?

If this happened to one of my family members, I would totally be seeking justice. The tragedy could have easily been avoided.

No video?

I apologize for that sarcastic remark.

That case was a tragedy beyond comprehension.

References the Duke Lacrosse story being reported nationally. A lot has happened since 2007 so you may be right.

Murders of Christopher Newsom and Channon Christian

No, but you're right. Had there been video, we would have never seen it due to the gruesome nature of those crimes.

The incident did get coverage here in Georgia. I believe the reason it didn't receive notorious national attention is because the perps were quickly arrested and there was no questions of guilt or innocence and no delays in arresting the scumbags.

In my mind I wonder what I would do if I were stopped suddenly while jogging by two guys with guns. Probably the last thing I would do is try to wrestle the gun away from one of the guys, but that’s me. There are lots of evil people out there and you never know their intentions. The jogger made an instant reactive decision in the moment out of fear. Lots of people would have done the same thing. Fear can cause you to cower down, or make you unbelievably brave. My heart goes out to the jogger’s family, and I hope the two men get the justice they deserve. Just a sad situation!

It got coverage here too. I don't remember how much though.

And to add to what you said, I don't know, but I'd bet no one really wanted to talk much about it. Hard to do without getting really graphic. I googled it yesterday to freshen my memory and I stopped reading. I know all I want to know.

Anything to claims that a hammer can be seen in the video and that he was wearing boots when killed? Saw it on some memes but haven’t found any news agencies covering it nor did I rewatch the video to see if I could see it

This is an excellent post. I told my wife, I find myself upset because this is being turned into a political narrative, but then why should I be surprised? Every tragedy is used to further an agenda by both sides. But the typical political emotional rhetoric of "lynching", "being hunted in the streets" etc when the statistics show differently.

I don’t think this is the video I saw on Facebook. This one seems to have more detail.

1. there is something in the road. Is it a hammer? Idk. I don’t think so. Crowbar? Maybe? Odd looking branch? Maybe.

2. It looks like he engages contact. He runs to the right side of the truck and appears to have freedom to continue running but comes at the guy. I couldn’t see that in the first video I watched.

Maybe it was a coffee mug.

The bold is what I can't understand.
