Three times this season (and I didn't watch the UTEP game), we have simply showed up, and thought the "Tennessee" on our chest was enough to win (@Xavier, USC-Upstate, & NCSU). Each time, we got our collective rear-ends handed to us, even if we did eventually out-talent USC-U.
That is simply a lifeless coach's inability to motivate his players. He can't go out and make shots for them, and last night they needed someone to, but he can jump their tails for doing nothing more than just showing up against inferior competition. Show some fire coach! Show us fans that losing bothers you. It all starts at the top, and losing is contagious. Once it becomes acceptable, then it spreads, and you're left with a team of losers who accept defeat. The same thing is wrong with our football team. Until those who lost for three straight years under Dooley are gone, a culture of losing and accepting losing will exist. You have to learn how to love winning and hate losing all over again.
Shooting 29% overall, 12.5% from three, at home coming off of a tough road loss is pathetic. We had one player, J. Richardson, shoot 50% or better, and he was 1/2. McRae - 6/22, Stokes - 4/10, Barton - 0/8. That is abysmal.
This team/coaching staff really had a chance to win back some fans with a strong performance against an ACC team. Instead, they probably lost any support they still had. A definite crossroads game that went the wrong way with no leadership on the court from player or coach.
