The Next Time The Debate About The Greatest College Football Team Of All Time Starts:

Granted, one of the best D's of all-time. They had everyone completely shut down except Mississippi State and Florida.

But Miami didn't only flow on D; they intimidated and dominated. They won games by an average of what, 40? And for a little where are they now, go look at that roster and count up the pro bowlers.

Once again, I respect your opinion on it, but I think Miami of '01 simply had too much talent. Easily the most dominant single season of any team since the days when a team could shut every opponnent out.
Miami only beat opponents by an average of 33 points a game, with 2 and 11 point victories over Virginia Tech and Boston college respectively. The 1995 Nebraska team won by an average of 38 points a game, with their closest game being a 14 point difference.

I just dont think there was a D to stop Nebraska that year. You did not know what the hell they would do on off. side of the ball. I do think like someone said Miami had the best athletes but the stars were in alighnment for Neb in 05.

The '01 'Canes would beat that Nebraska team so badly, Jarvis Redwine and Johnny Rodgers would have felt it.

Probably, but you can only compare what they each did to their schedule that particular season.

Yoiu mentioned the BC and Va. Tech. In the two games between those contests, they beat nationally ranked Syracuse and Washington by scores of 59-0 and 65-7.

and Nebraska beat a very good UF team to the point of being embarrassing.

Miami over Nebraska looked every bit as dominant as Nebraska over Florida. Granted, UF may have been better then the 2001 Canes, but the Canes didn't exactly have to try.

The fact they were only a 10.5 point favorite that night is one of the great gifts of all time. Anyone who bet Nebraska that night should just set their money on fire the next time they think about making a football wager.

Looks like the OU team they beat that year could have been the best team of all time if they won that game. They were dominant, too. I don't think champs in the 70's were as good as the Canes, though.

I'm not sure on the particulars of when it got out of hand, but I'm guessing the first teamers on the 1995 Nebraska team were deciding which mule to use to plow the cornfield before the game was over.

True, but Florida kept it competitive for a while. The competitive portion of the Miami-Nebraska game ended with the playing of the National Anthem.

Ya know...I believe my dad got playing time in the Miami / Nebraska game.

....and he wasn't even on the team.:)

Did Miami back off the throttle against Virginia Tech in 2001?

Not that it really matters, they both got it done (quite impressively) when it mattered most.

That Virginia Tech team was better than anyone Nebraska played, with the exception of Florida.

What about Boston College? They also played Miami closer than any of Nebraska's opponents played them in 1995.
