The Numbers Thread

I didn't say more stars. I said better players specifically.

So you think we only take 1-2 more players no matter how many of our high priority guys want in. So if Sweat, Sapp, Richmond, Martin, Ordway , Jefferson, Love want in he only takes 2 and tells the others we have no room?

As of today, I think there is likely 3 spots available as I get the feeling Woods will be placed somewhere and possibly have a chance at being a Vol in a couple/3 years.

Of those on your list, pick the 3 you like most.

On a sidenote, looking at your list I see you left out Gibson. Good to see you're finally coming around.

I left him out because we both no where we stand on Gibson. I was just trying to make this about numbers.

So you really think we would turn away any of them? What if three commit than Sweat and Richmond wait then want to commit? You think they say nope we are full?

Your * gazing is very clear. I get it. You feel that any kid who is rated higher than a current commit is a take. IMO that will prove to not be the case. We'll see what happens.

I see you didn't answer the question. If we take three more commits before Sweat and Richmond do they get turned away if they want to commit?

You say that but it is usually a reason the kids are rated so high. It is because they are good. I want good players. Good players usually have high stars. I really like Moseley last year and he had 2* when he committed. I liked his size and speed. I like Oliver at te 3*.

I like to think the coaches know where they stand with the last few recruits they are considering for spots in 2015. I'd also think they will not fill spots they feel could end up going to a kid still on the board. 3 spots left, I'd guess CBJ has a very good idea who will take those 3 spots. Just because some "highly rated" kids have UT in their "top group" does not mean UT lands them. CBJ knows what he needs to finish out the class and IMO they are all currently teed up and will be Vols on their set date CBJ has worked out with them. IMO Richmond on Sept 9th likely fills the last spot in this class.

Saw where someone said Matthews mentioned this morning that we may end up with 2 blue shirts. I wasnt listening, but did anyone hear that?

Would be insane to think we could take 27 this class with blueshirts.

Would lead to a VERY small class next year imo.

I'll believe it when I see it. Lots of talk of blue shirts last year and CBJ and staff looking for all these supposed "loop holes" yet they took exactly what they could take w/out any GS/BS or loop hole tactics.

Kinda thinking the same.

I would imagine a lot of the blueshirt talk is to keep recruits from feeling like they dont have a slot.

Yes. What he was saying is that butch has that in his back pocket if needed. I.e., if we are full & one of the players butch covets comes in last minute & says i want to be a Vol then he has that option to use if necessary.
Mathews also said again that between 2-4 current commits will likely de-commit before signing day so the numbers could go as high as 27 before signing day but likely will be 24 by then. On offense Richmond & Jefferson are takes no matter what & on defense Phillips, Sapp & 1 more corner plus possibly an unnamed current lb commit from a rival SEC school are also takes no matter what.

So Matthews hinted around today a little bit about at least 1 recruit UT has been pushing to fill one of the last spots that with them waiting, UT may be inclined to take the next guy on their board VS waiting the kid out. Also mentioned it may be a local kid.

Who would be #2 at OT left on the board?

Who would be #2 at SDE left on the board?

Has Jefferson visited himself right out of a spot?

I also like seeing that all our current commitments seem to not be taking other visits. Things seem to be very quiet as far as UT commitments go compared to other schools recruits visiting all over the country.

Right now, our coaches can afford to wait for a kid.

I agree. With so few spots to fill and a lot of options they could wait if they wanted to. I'm just curious if one of the #2's, is close enough to the #1 where a commitment now would overtake the waiting out of the #1.

Good question. It might be at DE.

Dang, it looks like CTT has fallen off quite a bit recruiting wise this year thus far. 247 ranked the recruiters in college football today. They rank CTT 136th, and at least a 1/2 dozen other UT coaches higher. CSS is the highest rated UT coach at 13th.

2015 Football Recruiter Rankings

With Carson leaving, the # for the 2015 class is now 17. If they choose to sign 24(the max), 7 current Vols would need to end their UT careers early and walk away by Aug 2015.

Woods looks to be no longer considered a commitment for 2015.

The current commitment count is 21 so 3 spots left unless another current commitment changes.

Martin, what is he waiting for? Vols waiting for grades?

Phillips wanted his teammate offered, Vols did. Would they take both today?

Jefferson continues to visit OSU. Obviously dad does not feel as bad about osu as some have claimed.

Richmond visited bama recently. ole miss still in it. Vols in the top 3 and could get him on Sept. 9th.

Tuttle CBs are rolling in faster than hundred dollar bills from Mayweather to the casino.

Sapp has gone quiet. Not heard much in a while.

Adkinson looks to be waiting on Sapp and IMO not by his choice.

TG, as expected.

FWIW, I believe the minimum # of schollys available for this class is now 18. By my count, we have 80 players on scholarship, with 13 of those graduating seniors after this season:

Coleman
Jones
Williams
Darr
Johnson
Pair
Gilliam
Worley
Lane
Young
Downs
Quinn
Carter

But, scholly situations aren't always completely disclosed to fans / media, so could be wrong :peace2:

I don't think Jacob Carter is currently on scholarship. The scholarship roster I have been using shows when Gilliam and Swafford went on scholarship, Carter was taken off. IF that is accurate.
