The Numbers Thread

I think we have about 5 spots open currently because I think Lovingwood and Bruce GS or BS. We will certainly lose at least one commit at some point.

So the final 6 IMO right now are

Tuttle
Richmond
Bouldware
Abernathy
Martin
Sapp

Would be a great finish.

You can be a bit "commitment" heavy. We will have some defections between now and NSD. Some will be recruited over by the staff which I'm sure people do not like but it's better to get the absolute best players here and get the others to programs where they will be able to contribute.

QB-Jennings
QB-Dormady
RB-Reid
RB-Kamara
WR-Williams
WR-Bruce
TE-Oliver
OL-Stewart
OL-Hall
OL-Jones
OL-Boulware
OL-Richmond
DT-Picou
DT-McKenzie
DT-Tuttle
DE-Butcher
DE-Jackson
DE-Ford
LB-Cherry
LB-Smith
S-Griffin
CB-Miller
P-Townsend
LS-Lovingood

Maybe?

I do remember reading an article that said the staff really wanted to land 1 lockdown CB in 2015 and the article was written in relation to Miller's commitment. Maybe 1 CB is it for this class? Moving Johnson and Berry to LB, maybe the staff think 2 LBs is good in 2015 especially if Ford can be a hybrid type guy.

Sapp, Abernathy, Martin, Phillips, Jefferson all still in play, but I'm not sure if/how they fit in anywhere.

This is not gonna be the final list...likely a lot of dropping and adding more than likely. We can sit and hope it will be this way but it is not realistic. They will continue to upgrade. JMO of course.

So... if we don't then it's a failure?

Maybe he was going for partial success?

Taking Boulware does raise some questions. If there are 2 spots left, does that mean those are for Richmond and Sapp? Or is it Richmond and Tuttle? What about Martin and or Abernathy? What if the staff felt Boulware instead of Tuttle made the most sense with where they are and the current roster needs? Only a couple spots left, will be interesting to see what the staff does.

Lulz you and your numbers! All these commits are wrecking your projections! Butch will get it sorted out. I am almost positive we will have more than a couple more recruits between now and NSD.

Maybe. Curious to see what the staff does.

Jefferson was one most felt UT would take no matter what. Now, not so sure. Phillips? Kind of the same thing. Sort of feels like the staff may not be willing to wait him out. Maybe Boulware on the OL now vs Phillips at DE later made sense today?

It's what makes recruiting fun for me. :good!:

I'm wondering if we land Tuttle and Richmond, does hall get recruited over? I also think Bruce may end up with a gs offer, and woods gets left out.

Would you mind if I UPS'd you multiple notepads and pens? You know, so you can write all your "numbers" theories to yourself and leave them off VN.

It really does get pretty annoying after awhile. As much as you think you know about this class and how many we'll take, you don't.

Most know my feeling on dropping recruits once they are committed. Now if Hall decides to look around on his own? So be it. I don't think that happens. CBJ had been quoted recently saying the team was 5 OL guys short from being in an ideal situation. Maybe taking 5 is what he wants to do this year.

As far as I a concerned, take Richmond and either Tuttle, Abernathy, Sapp, or Martin and call it good to go for 2015.

I keep lots of notepads and pens around. I don't know any more than anyone else when it comes to recruiting and fans who follow it.

Shots fired captain. Direct hit.

Prepare the boarding gear.

Just saying that grabbing another 5star DT in Tuttle, and the #1 player in our state would be a strong way to finish up a class. I think it is a strong statement to have the best players from your state playing at the state institution. I don't think that it wouldn't be a successful class, I would just feel better about it if we grab these two guys. Phillips would be nice to have also. Then with a few of the normal movements of commits and decommits over the next few months we will still be solid.

IF the staff feels good at LB and CB, I say take Richmond and Tuttle and the class is complete.

Similar to last year, there will be some names that are on our list right now, that will not be there come February. I am pretty sure that Tuttle and Richmond are not the last two they are waiting on.

You can add Jefferson, Martin, Abernathy, Phillips, Walker, Sapp, DeBerry and Settle to the list of possibles.
Now obviously, we will not get all of these. If Sapp commits soon, DeBerry will drop off the list. If Abernathy or Martin commit, the other drops. Same goes for Phillips and DeAndre Walker. But, Jefferson and Settle will be taken no matter what.

Butch has a plan and i do not think it involves grayshirts. We can sign 24 and 24 only.

We had what...6 guys committed at this time last year that didn't end up signing with UT for whatever reason?

I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened all over again for this class.

There will be at least that many in this class that are commited right now that won't be Vols.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Lee bailed because of the depth chart and others recruited for his position. Brown was grade concerns. I think Lauderdale may have been missing the SEC math class, Powell was always a risks to stay instate, Booth had his EE spot given to Malone, Mouhon took a visit after committing, Lambert did flip to AU but grades were at least in question. Just some that I can remember. With likely only 2 spots left, I guess I just don't see where we lose anyone with who the staff likely takes in those 2 spots. The 22 current commits look to be happy as Vols. Unless grade issues come up during their SR year, I think most if not all stick.

IMO those hoping a couple/few 3*'s get dropped to make room for more *'s may be disappointed this year. I get the feeling this class is about a wrap.

Those are common things that happen often with every team's recruiting class. I would say the chances that every current commit signs with UT is slim and none, judging by recent history.

The next recruiting class that is wrapped and sealed by the end of September will likely be the first recruiting class to ever do that.

Thomas?

I agree that the class is almost done, but we are going to get more than 2 additional commitments IMO. Someone will either get asked to what Dews did or someone will look around because they feel like their spot is in jeopardy.

Recruiting is changing. The selection process has changed. Recruits timelines for announcing has changed. Coaches are being more selective now a days and UT's coaches seem to be sticking with their "profile" when taking commitments. It may be a 1st, but IMO not that far of a reach this class could be finished with Tuttle's commitment toward the end of Sept. JMO
