The Numbers Thread

I have given you crap before about your numbers LV but you do seem to have a pretty good grasp on the situation. Good read, keep it up

I remember him earning it.

Confirmed w/ UT's site. Earned in 2012.

Jacob Carter Bio - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics

I know a walk-on can earn a scholarship. Like with any scholarship, it is year to year. A kid can be on scholarship one year and not the next. Kind of a coach tossing a kid a bone for working hard IF he has an open scholarship. Carter could still be on scholarship. The roster I have been using which seems to be updated a lot/frequently, shows Carter as a walk-on now and Swafford and Gilliam on scholarship.

While there's a chance he's now a walk-on, I doubt Butch would give it to him just to be taken away. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have my doubts.

I agree. I'd like to see that if a kid is given a scholarship, he gets to keep it. Most know I am very pro "commitment" when it comes to the players and doing things the right way. We are probably making a big deal out of nothing. If he is on scholarship or not does not mean much at this point. If the # is 17 or 18 does not matter so much right now. It seems the coaches plan to take the full 24 no matter what. Just means 6 or 7 more kids have to be processed before Aug next year.

Ultimately Carter's scholly status doesnt impact next year's avail schollys, only this year. And they are well under 85 limit this year, which is part of the reason im highly confident he retains his. Plus he has earned it.

IMO it's Richmond, Tuttle, and 1 of Sapp, Abernathy, or Martin to finish the 2015 class off. With Abernathy set to announce shortly, the spot may be his for the taking.

I'd guess Tuttle looks to be the last piece to the puzzle with his late September announcement. I think the other 2 are locked in before that.

Still think unless there are grade issues that come up with any of the current commitments, the 21 locked in now along with the 3 mentioned above could very well be the 2015 class come EE/NSD.

IMO it would be a very good class and fill the needs currently in question with this team. The early focus then shifts to 2016 and the major needs would be CB/LB/WR/OL IMO.

If we signed all 21 current commits, it would be the first time in the history of ... well ... history.

It ain't happenin'. There will be attrition on both sides.

Not happening. There will be changes all the way until February. Some will be initiated by us, others by recruits/current commits. Every school, every year, we're no different.

Maybe.

If they add Richmond, do I think any OL commits reconsider their commitment? No.

If they add Tuttle do I think one of the other DTs reconsider? Not really.

If they add Abernathy, would the other lone CB commit bail? I seriously doubt it.

With no talk of "grade concerns or ACT issues" with anyone other than Woods(who I already consider dropped from the class) headed into their SR year it would not shock me at all to see the class look very much on NSD as it does today, except for adding those 3. I guess I like what we have and don't need a lot of drama to feel UT is alright recruiting wise.

But we don't stop recruiting even if all three of your aforementioned recruits commit.

We are going to recruit Justin Martin, Micah Abernathy, and Ugo Amadi at DB.

We are going to recruit Van Jefferson at WR

We are going to recruit Venzell Boulware and Drew Richmond at OT.

We are going to recruit Kyle Phillips at DE.

Butch Jones is going to assemble THE best team on and off the field. Last year we lost Dominique Booth, Kevin Mouhon, Lawrence Lee, Cory Thomas, Orlando Brown, Eric Lauderdale, Davonte Lambert, and hell I still think I'm forgetting somebody.

This idea that we've "filled up" before these recruits have even started their senior seasons is comical. We will accept the best talent that wants to come play at The University of Tennessee. There will be attrition and casualties. And believe it or not, by accepting a commitment from one recruit, another previously committed recruit may look elsewhere voluntarily. That seemed to be the case more than once last year. Bet it happens again.

Of course they will still keep in contact with a chosen few recruits just in case something happened. Of course staying in contact with them or "recruiting" them does not mean they would take them. Some fans are hoping a few of the lower rated commitments get their spot yanked from them because *'s mean so much to them. I'm just not that guy. I like what we have in the fold. All the commits look to be doing what they should be doing to be Vols. I hope it continues. No drama, I'll take it.

Could we take Tuttle, Richmond and Bouleware and call it a wrap ? Butch just made a comment a few days ago we were 5 lineman short

Possibly. I just figured adding a 2nd CB vs a 5th OL would make more sense. CBJ saying we are 5 OL short could mean he would like to take 5 this year or taking 4 would be fine and take 1 more next year. With us losing very little on the OL after 2014 and Johnson already on board for 2016, IMO we'll be fine. If it was my choice to take Bouleware or Abernathy/Martin, I'll take the extra CB this year.

Agreed. At least another CB is a must.

I could see that as well. I just thought with all of the young DBS we have an OL might be of higher priority. But I guess we will see how it plays out. I just want to win.

I think we land Tuttle, Richmond, Love and then shave off a couple low 3s and add some sleeps near signing day, 5.8 or above.

If we get both McKenzie and Tuttle, would Picou reconsider? 2 5* DTs might cause him to reconsider, although he is a really solid athlete.

We must have 5 OL. Can Boulware play guard as well as tackle? We really need both Richmond and Boulware.

We have 2 DBs committed now, Miller and Griffin. Do we need another with so much youth in the DBs?

I'm still concerned about only taking 2 LBs. We need either DeBerry or Sapp to make 3.

Making the numbers fit is a challenge. We are still thin in so many areas.

I concur, Dr.

My thoughts exactly. OL and LBs are crucial.i

Assuming we close with (which I consider very likely):

Richmond
Tuttle
Phillips
Abernathy or Martin
Jefferson
Sapp

And assuming point distribution is relatively the same as last season:

We should finish somewhere between 5 and 7 on 247.

Depending on how much higher Dormandys ranking goes on some other sites, we should be closer to five.

The less likely scenario:
And if CBJ could find a way to make room for 1-2 of the following: Love, Burrell, Settle, Deberry, or McGraw we probably finish 4th, possibly 3rd.

The dream: Josh Sweat with 1 of the less likelies makes us 2nd.

Josh Sweat does not even have Tennessee in his top 7. That one was never a real possibility at all.
