The Numbers Thread

While I hate seeing it happen, I think we will continue to do so. 3QBs, 3RBs, in a class. Situations like that are exactly what fuels attrition.
While I agree that one of the QBs will probably leave, I don't think any of the RBs will.
I think Bussey will get carries this year. I also think both Hurd and Kamara could leave for the NFL after their Jr year, leaving the door open for someone to step up.

SIAP, but with Peterman transferring, does anyone know for sure how many scholarship players we have on the roster as of right now (including the EEs)?

Thanks

TIFWIW, 68 by my count. That includes King, Wharton, Sawyers, & Jenkins, but not Peterman. I'm probably off a bit tho, it's been hard to keep up with transfers, etc.

I also see the possibility that one of the QBs change to another position.

Great that we have options in the skill positions for the first time in a very long time. Injuries can decimate a team without depth and the extra competition means that they will push each other! Cream rises to the top!!!!!!

So are you saying Peterman transferring is a bad thing? Kid clearly wasn't SEC material and got recruited over. You saying an athlete of the caliber of J. Jennings is similar to Nathan Peterman in any way?

I would have rather seen UT sign 2 QBs and use that 3rd spot elsewhere. History says at least one and possibly 2 of those QBs transfer before they make any impact at all. Jmo of course.

Yet again are you saying Peterman transferring is a bad thing? Competition brings out the best in players. If you have a highly rated prospect transferring out of your program, that means you have a flat-out stud who beat him out. Remember Peterman was actually a 4 star, even though he proved to be overrated. You think Bama is hurting because Kamara transferred out?

Besides, It looks like Butch is going to fill every single need in this class even with signing 3 QBs. So what's the problem? Oh yeah, how could I forget, its you.

I didn't read it that way. Petermann leaving has zero to do with it. We have 3 QB's coming in with a Jr starter. One or more of the 3 freshman QB's will have to settle for a backup role or another position....Therefore they may decided to leave.

Exactly.

Again, what is wrong with that? These aren't the Dooley years guys, where we have no depth and keep players who have no business being on a SEC roster on our team.

You are still missing my point. Having talented players transfer out of your program because they can't get playing time is not necessarily a bad thing. In most cases, that means a better guy beat them out. Case in point, Dobbs beating out Peterman.

Ok, so run off the guys who actually know the offense. Then over sign a class of young guys so a couple of them transfer when they don't win the job. Then next year, like with RB this year you have continue over signing because instead of keeping and developing talent, you're always fighting the" we are young" stuff. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. We'll see how it plays out.

Yep, I knew you wanted us to keep Peterman. *sigh*

We have a starter right now. He'll be here for two more years. Let's say all 3 of Jennings, Dormady, and Jones play QB, which is a big if because I think Jennings would happily play Safety. You seem sure that he will leave if he is asked to change. But let's say they all 3 play QB behind Dobbs for the next 2 years.

Going into the Spring of 2017, we have those 3 competing for the starting spot, not to mention the 2016 QB recruit, and potentially a 2017 EE. That's 4-5 talented guys battling for the spot: 1-2 would be true Jr. most likely with some playing time, maybe even some starts if Dobbs gets hurt, 1-2 would be Redshirt So. with two years experience in the system, and then you have the Redshirt FR./EE FR. coming in behind them.

So one of them wins the job. What is so bad about one being the starter, one the backup, and one leaving? We'll have a good starter with 2 years in the offense who will have had to beat out some talented prospects for the job. If the worst one of them wants to leave, then so be it. Next guy steps up.

You're also assuming that guys are automatically going to leave. Team players who will do whatever it takes to help the team still exist, and it isn't a certainty that the backups will transfer.

As for getting rid of the guys that know the offense. Are you saying that if Dobbs got hurt next year, you would rather have Peterman step in or the best of those FR.? I don't think anyone, Butch Jones included, would pick Peterman, irregardless of the knowledge of the offense.

I'll be honest, I stopped reading at the idea 3 QBs. From the same class will all sit and wait their turn behind Dobbs for 2 more years. I suppose Kendall will wait for 3-4 years behind all those guys? LOL

You're the one pushing 3 QBs. Most of us think Jennings is moving to Safety, and probably starting and playing very well there.

And yes guys do wait their turn sometimes, it happens. And yes guys also transfer for playing time. None of us know what will happen, so saying that they will do either of those things for sure is just ignorant.

Besides if Dobbs gets hurts or struggles, whose to say that some of those guys won't play/start before 2017.

I think all 3 of the QB commits know they are sitting behind Dobbs for the next 2 years.
