The Numbers Thread

I am so very glad you are not in charge of recruiting. In fact it is a blessing you are as far away from UT as you can be and still be in the US. Take up a new hobby, hula making. You can count the number of Palm frond stems it take and give us a detailed report. At least then you might have some practical knowledge to impart.
If Kendall goes elsewhere, so what. We are in on a couple other good ones for 16 and a really good one for 17. It will work out. Without your input.

Of course it will still work out. Even if UT runs the place like the BMV with folks going in and out at an alarming rate, they will still field a team.

I'll still give my input as usual.

Jones is better than Jennings.

Jennings gets his 1 year at QB, doesn't work, gets moved to FS.

2016 rolls around and Kendall is looking at:

Sr - Dobbs
So - Dormady
So - Jones

Plus a walk-on or two.

That's a pretty good looking situation to walk in to. JMO IMO UNICEF

I don't see Jones as a guy who is going to sit for a couple three years to get his shot. Imo

Its Dobbs in 2015, and 2016. Imo Dormady is #2. Jones at best would he #3 and sitting. Imo he's gone after year 1 and Jennings will remain at QB. Butch gets cute with trying to move Jennings and he may lose both IMO. Problem I see is Kendall will be committed elsewhere before Jones walks.

Let them compete in practice first before you start saying who is first and 2nd string. Jones with his running ability is an all-around bigger threat than Dormady, so how you are already announcing Dormady the 2nd string qb is baffling.

I'd have just taken the 2 EEs. What does the 3rd really do? Imo nothing. All 3 will not stay. All taking the 3rd did was add a body and adding that body may have cost you the best QB in the 2016 class. No more experience with Jones, he'll even be coming in behind the other guys. You know your starter is Dobbs. I'd have had Dormady as my #2, Jennings as my #3 and hope to RS him. I already had Kendall in 2016. After I saw how the 2 EEs did early on, I would then consider a 2nd in 2016 with losing Peterman. Much more likely they stick around. Much more likely the time spent coaching them is time well spent. Sneaking in the 3rd guy after the EEs were in Imo just assures you of problems coming. I get it the fans will ignore it and make excuses for it. When it happens they will just call the kid a quitter. It's played out the same time after time.

IMO I think we lose Kendall here shortly and picking up Oden will be alright. We'll see if he sticks long term. I've said it from the beginning I see Jones as the odd man out. Imo just too many things going against him to still be a Vol beyond year 1.

You're not taking injuries/suspensions into account. We'll have one or two QBs have to miss multiple games for injuries in 2015. We have almost every season (except 2012) for the past 5 seasons.

No one wants to go through a season with only 3 QBs on roster. If we'd only had 3 on roster in 2013 and hadn't taken another QB late, we'd have been running a wildcat from the third Saturday in October onwards.

That 3rd QB will give them an extra arm not only in case of injury/suspension, but also for the scout team and for the WRs to practice their routes. The fewer QBs on the roster the less you can afford to rest your top QBs arm every now and then (unless you want your WRs practicing their routes with coaches throwing to them which is far from ideal).

As for Jones, it wouldn't surprise me to see him make the top 3 on the depth chart even though he's not an EE. He's a smart kid and if Dobbs goes down I'd expect one of our more athletic QBs to take over for him.

I used the Schwartz. Lonestar signed off. TIFWIW

And it will still be nothing but useless drivel. If you only had a small amount of knowledge about the game it might be different. No, it would still be of no more value than a pile of tick feces.

3 years? Assuming Dobbs stays, Jones only has to sit 2 years before there's an open competition for the job. And given how much Jones's skill set mirrors that of Dobbs, I'd say he has a fair chance of winning that battle.

Devin Smith or Janzek can run the scout team QBing wise. Jmo

If LV being in charge of recruiting meant he wouldn't post on this board, I might consider the tradeoff. LV - the horse is dead, buried, reincarnated already. Enough!

Can't spend what you don't have yet...so nothing has "cost" us Kendall...we could jump through every hoop and still lose this kid for any reason. That's the peril of recruiting scared and it puts your program in a dangerous situation. Build your program the right way as Butch is doing, and the kid is more likely to want to be a part of it. IMO FWIW IOU DEA

Tell him one thing then do another. If you want to assure you lose him, that's a solid start. IMO JMO H2O HBO WD40 5W30

Not in my mind.

The more I assume the more I can speculate therefore allowing me to come to various conclusions based on very little.

I'm like the Dr. Seuss of recruiting.

So when you hear a Who you argue about how many you can take? :)

And if Jones beats out Dormady for #2? Do you believe Dormady then walks?

Don't stop giving your input. Your opinions on UT Football are more valuable than someones opinion of your posts or you personally. Most people think if you disagree with them, then you are attacking them and they respond by attacking you.

Differing opinions is what Merica is all about. It usually makes for a good debate but on VN it's easier to call you a fat do-do head.

I didn't think he was all that fat. (but I've never seen him either)
