With Callaway in the fold, we now have 17 known commitments for the 2016 class.
As has been covered, we have 4 blueshirts from the previous class counting against our 2016 class, meaning our cap without blueshirting anyone from this class would be 21.
In order to qualify as a blueshirt, a recruit must not have an in-home visit and must not have an Official Visit to that school.
Of our 17 current commits, the only guys who haven't had an in-home and haven't had an Official as of yet are Devante Brooks and Austin Pope (both are currently scheduled for the 29th). If our staff feels like they've got a great chance to close with some of our higher ranked targets that are iffy right now (Kongbo, Dickerson, Tyler Byrd, etc.), then we may see these two cancel their visits. If that were to happen, then we could reach a maximum of 23 commits in this class.
So we can safely add 4 more recruits to this class, with the possibility of 6 if Brooks and Pope do not OV on the 29th. If both end up visiting and we end up with 23, they probably footed the bill on their own as an Unofficial Visit, which still keeps them Blueshirt eligible.

Do you have an idea how the last few spots unfold?
no. not at all. too many out there being talked to and too many we are in on. Recruiting is too fickle to predict.
check this out on past recruiting. We finished second for all these kids.
1995 Black Monday (this is when I learned not to predict recruits)
"The Vols chances for a top five finish were devastated by "Black Monday" when six to eight defensive line recruits committed to other schools just 48 hours before signing day.
Rahim Abdullah, Jacksonville stuck with Clemson.
Lamont Bryant, Georgetown, SC choose Notre Dame
Anthony Mitchell, Bradenton, pick Florida
Teto Simpson, Greeneville, NC, picked UNC
Brian Johnson, DC, picked ECU
Larry Smith, Valley Forge Military, choose FSU
Ernie Badeaux, Marrero, went to Florida
Billy Ratliff was the only player on the late list to sign. It was a tough day, Fulmer said of "Black Monday"
from 2006 black Monday (the Monday prior to NSD)
Black Monday 2006.
Aleric Mullins to N Carolina
Adam Patterson to Michigan
Brandon Warren to FSU
Dakoda Watson to FSU
Greg Davis to W Virginia
Jeremiha Hunter to Iowa
and then to top that class off Kelvin Shepherd and Perry Riley told Chavis at 8:00 AM on signing day they were getting ready to fax in papers only to send papers to LSU 2 hours later.
they will hold one spot for Stewart. he will count when he arrives on campus. so 20 is the likely number..
Maybe I missed it, but I'd read somewhere that there had been concern Stewart might give up football. Has he confirmed his intentions to play at UT? If not, is there a time frame?
Don't mean to sound like a callous jerk because my father died just 5 months ago so I do understand the pain, but life goes on.

I've learned tonight from more than one source that coaches have visited all of our committed recruits so none are eligible for a blue shirt.
Just passing along info to clarify your posts..

So if they are taking 20 + 1 for Stewart coming in I'd have to go with Warrior, Brown, and Byrd.

Just posted this in the Dickerson thread, but I thought posting it here might help some who may not get the blueshirt situation. Sorry to those who this may bother.
In 2014, we signed 32 guys. VQ at the time had suggested that there was one BS, many of which thought to be Robertson. Swafford was also given a scholarship that next season, meaning he would count towards the 15 class as well (if you receive a scholarship within your first two years on a campus as a WO, you are forward-counted to the next class, much like a Blueshirt).
In 2015, we signed 30 guys. With the cap being at 25, plus Swafford and Robertson adding to that number, we had to blueshirt 7 guys. Bruce and Oliver never made it to the fall semester, so that number went down to 5. Stewart never made it in, so the number went down to 4. Those 4 count against the 2016 class. If Stewart enrolls this summer, he will count against the 2016 class as well, and the magic number then becomes 20.
Gotta make some room then
