The Numbers Thread

I don't think anyone has said but there is always a couple of guys who are currently on the team that probably want be by next (2015) season.

Just look at this year Fergie, we still don't know if Howard will be back or not etc...

So you always sign the limit and then let the numbers work there self out.

The Howard situation is looking better every day.

We got 16 now, 3 or 4 will go somewhere else, 1 or 2 with grades by the time NSD gets here just hope top 10 recruiting class.

I've had a couple too many Four Roses, this is two threads tonight where TP seems clear as day.

Keep drinking the butch Kool-aide. Hes been here one season and didn't go bowling. Dooley did better his first season. And whats with all the stinking 3 stars. Look how many 3 stars the other teams have now. Here we go! The Bottom Feeder Vols

Hahaha ...Wait are you serious?

I would point out that if you look at the 247 "composite" rankings for 2014, UT signed 16 3* recruits. They passed on 4* kids like DJ Smith and Chris Lammons. Why? Because the position was full. Both Smith and Lammons had higher "rankings" than Berry, Berry, Moseley, Gaulden, or Payne.

I would not just assume the UT coaches would "make room" cause a kid has more stars or is ranked higher. JMO

Ok so let me ask you something. In 2014 say it came close to NSD and we were full. Now lets say that Adoree Jackson, Carl Lawson or David Cornwell or all 3 wanted to come to UT. Do you honestly believe that CBJ would not have made room for those guys? The answer is a resounding yes. Why? Because they are ultra talented players. CBJ pushed extremely hard for all 3 of those guys. That says it all.

He pushed hard for Malone and got him. Why? Because he is a great player. He pushed for LP why? Great player. I am not assuming anything, its fact. Sometimes recruits are insurance policies in case coaches don't get the ones they really want. Thats a fact. Its recruiting 101. Not in every case but sometimes.

Considering Carl Lawson was the year before........

Butch and co. have a few years to prove themselves. No need to set fire to the process just because you don't agree with a few commits. They all look fine to me. Joc, Austin, Quay, & Kyle are all good commits and will fill some much needed roles in our O & D. The purpose is to create depth - much needed depth and IMO Butch and co are doing the work necessary. A couple are redshirt prospects and maybe, personally, I scratch my head at taking both Bruce & Woods together--besides that I think the class has been managed pretty well, professionally - and the prospects have been pursued aggressively at that. I'm excited about the 2015 class but still looking for that top talent to make it elite - TG, DJ Jones, Cam Ordway, Khalil McKenzie, Kyle Phillips, Drew Richmond - come on down!

I know you're trolling but I will bite. Just take a look at the schedules in Dooleys first year and CBJ first year. If you cannot see the MAJOR difference then I hear they are doing wonders at mental institutions these days.

Too many kids??

Very, very underrated post IMO.

Thanks for the laugh!

Excited to get Oliver, another in-state kid.

But should we be concerned that season hasn't even started yet and we're already filling up the class? Weren't we suppose to have less available spots this year?

Like others have already stated, it will work itself out. No need to worry about it. Some will de commit (hey, it's just the reality of recruiting), some won't have the grades, and then again, some may be told to look elsewhere. Come signing day, we'll have the exact amount of kids signed that we can take.

Orange Carpet weekend brought in 4 new verbals. With tight numbers for '15 can the Vols only sign 20? All these skill players are wonderful additions and obviously you have to have play makers on the field. But, in order to win consistently and compete in this league and be in games late in the 3rd and 4th quarters you have to have serious talent and depth on the interior line. Both defensively and offensively. I would love if they signed another QB at least for depth and competition and the rest DTs and interior OL'men. Who do they ask for look elsewhere and if they do when? Any room for Tim Settle and McKenzie? McKenzie is a MUST!!!!!

Also, Nigel Warrior is a legacy kid. Have to get Dale Carter's son just on principle alone.

Amazing. We pay the guy millions to do something very few people in the world can do - coach a D1 football team - and then question him on his ability to do simple math in recruiting. Relax people.

Waaaaaiiiitttt!!!!!! No one is questioning his ability. What are the simple math numbers then? Do you or don't you fundamentally agree about the all important depth and big time talent at particularly DT?

If you could keep up with what's going on at the camps you wouldn't make these type statements. The coaches are seeing what the players can do in person and are making informed decisions on taking commitments from these players. I'll refrain from calling you a troll or a Dooley lover since you seem to be ignorant of the facts. Try to remember that sometimes the services don't rate the players correctly, especially if they haven't seen them (& even when they've seen them).

I thought I heard him say he was going to take 25. I don't remember where though.

If he can take and does take 25, that basically answers my questions.....

I thought the number was as low as 20 or around 20. Big big difference is 7 spots verses 2 left......

I think it was some radio interview last week....in fl?
