The Oakland A's- MLB's ACTUAL AAA team

you know full well I meant actual on the field success. What they have done statistically compared to what the A's got in return is a no brainer as to which side won those deals.

I'm sure the Giants are just tickled they are paying Zito so much money, as are the Cards with Mulder.
Now that Haren's gone, exactly what do they have to show for the Mulder deal?

it was pointed out in the Haren trade that we won't see any major league results until next season for that trade.

Also, Kiko is a pretty viable reliever and many believe Daric Barton will prove extremely successful at first.

By that logic, Beane should throw big money at Rich Harden, because look how good he is the three starts a year when he's healthy.

no. When healthy Jermaine Dye has always been good. He was very good before joining the A's and he's been very good since leaving.

Harden has never been healthy.

I actually like Calero. Not sold on Barton. I'm just busting your chops a bit. I'm pretty confident I root harder for the A's than anyone around here except you. I think Beane is certainly astute. However, without the Big Three, nobody would have been writing books about him. The guys they drafted in the year Moneyball documents haven't really been anything special.

the big three definitely made him, but he's obviously getting more out of them than any other GM in baseball could have gotten. I'll agree that Beane is a better master at making valuable trades at exactly the right time than he is purely on making great draft choices.

But you should know as well as I do that drafting baseball players is much harder than drafting football or basketball players.

you should also note that I don't expect much this season by titling the thread MLB's AAAA team.

I agree. To compare it to another sport I love, it's like buying yearlings at sale. All you can do is gather all available information and hope.

I'm not too sure about your first assertion. I'm pretty sure if you give Terry Ryan three young pitchers of that quality in their primes for multiple years, the Twins would do alright. Mulder's injury makes trading him look smarter than it was.

Off topic, but Albert Pujols just put on one of the most impressive batting practice displays I've ever seen.

well, i'm happy to say that the soon to hopefully be Freemont A's will be able to say that at least spent part of the season above water. After sweeping the Blue Jays, they are 6-4 and actually tied for the AL West lead. Right now they are crushing the Indians in the top of the eighth. A Seattle win tonight over the Halos and assuming we don't monumentally collapse in the next two innings and the A's will actually be in first. I don't expect it to last. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, I hope Harden gets healthy just long enough to get traded for something semi valuable. I would honestly just like to see Chavez take a complete year off and see how healthy he can get for next year. Hannahanahanahanahanahan is seriously struggling offensively in his place though.

while in Minnesota probably. But i don't think he could have gotten the returns that Beane has. Of course this hinges on the players for the Haren deal panning out. Greg Smith looked good the other night after his first inning.

However, I do want to ask, how much input does Ryan still have? I know he didn't actually get out of the twinkies organization

A's give up six runs in the bottom of the 8th but hold on. Seattle roughs up the Halos bullpen and ladies and gentelemen, THE OAKTOWN A'S ARE IN FIRST PLACE IN THE AL WEST!!!

enjoy it while it lasts.

also this a great time to remember that Cory Lidle and Joe Kennedy were taken from us early and should both be in the majors right now.

I don't know if Crosby is ever gonna be the star he looked like when they let Tejada go.

Ellis has become one of my favorite A's.
