The Oakland A's- MLB's ACTUAL AAA team

Go ahead and laugh, but I'm really excited now. With the addition of Frank Thomas Oakland has significantly changed the amount of power in their lineup. They now have exactly ONE threat to worry about hitting a roundtripper.

I may be jumping the gun since they're only paying Thomas $340,000 or so, but with this hire I believe Beane doesn't think this good start is just a fluke. I think Beane is going to be playing from here on out to win the West.

GO A's!

Congrats A's fans on picking up Frank Thomas. The guy can still hit and I believe a change of scenery will help him this season. Just the kind of bat you need and veteran presence in the locker room to make a playoff push near the end of the season.

With such a low salary it was worth the signing.

You just never know what's going to happen. I would love to see them shake things up in the AL West. Time for another team to make some noise besides the Angels & Seattle.

ummm, Seattle hasn't made noise in quite some time and the A's won the division in 2006.

I remember Seattle made a nice run last year finishing 2nd in the division.

a nice run yes, but I never once considered the Mariners a threat to the Halos.

Oakland has had a nice stretch save last year the past 8 years or so. I just didn't expect anything out of them this year.

With Chavez & Harden on the DL it has been some good playing and a surprise just like you said. Hope they can keep things up for you!

no one expects anything out of either this season. Especially Harden. Beane and Co. was hoping he could simply stay healthy long enough for the Yanks to be dumb enough to trade for him. Unfortunately, as usual he let us down.

The biggest bright spot is the A's have almost been playing one month and Bobby Crosby isn't hurt yet. It's bound to happen though and then we're screwed because we didn't keep Scutaro.

Bill, What are they gonna do about Mike Sweeney?

That's one DH too many, by my count.

I really believe Beane has faith that Oakland can contend for the West this year for whatever reason. Otherwise, there's no reason to pick up Thomas. I think Beane and Geren will platoon Barton and Sweeney at first, playing whoever is the hottest at the moment. Between playing first and covering for Thomas' off days as DH, I think Sweeney will see plenty of action.

Crosby saves Street with a great play to end the game as the A's beat the Mariners in Seattle. With the win the A's are assured of their first winning April in 5 years. The last time the A's finished April with a winning record, they went on to win 96 games and the AL West crown.

Don't tease me.

I'd love nothing more than to have been spectacularly wrong about losing 90.

but, again, It's APRIL.

More hope-raising news:

Harden threw a simulated game today, and is on track for a rehab start. might have him back by end of May.

Chavez was part of that sim game, and got one of the two hits allowed by Harden.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

laying the lumber down on the Halos right now. 10-2 in the top the 7th and still putting it to them.

HOW BOUT THEM A's!!!!!

i'm totally speechless at the moment. This is the happiest I've been watching a sporting event in a long long time.

I should have been watching it. Got hung up watching the Hawks beat the Celtics earlier and kind of haven't thought about baseball tonight.

14-2 now, I see. Don't use up all your runs tonight...

a's split the most important series of the season to date, hammering the halos in games 1 and 4. For the series, the A's outscored the "AL West favorite" halos 30-18.

Rangers come to Oaktown for a 3 game series starting tonight, then the Oreos for a three game series starting Monday. The A's will have played 16 straight days before finally getting an off day Thursday. It will be interesting to see how this young team holds up over these next 6 days.

also of note, Harden pitched for Sacramento Tuesday night.

His line:

3.2 IP, 3H, 1R, 4K, 50 pitches, 38 strikes

From what I've read 50 pitches were the max they were going to allow.

Chavez fielded grounders Wed night before the game and reported no pain. Not sure if he actually threw to first though. He was moved to the 60 day DL to make room for Thomas making him ineligible to return until at least May 27. Not sure who would be sent down. Murphy can play anywhere in the infield, he's just not a great hitter. Hannahanahanahanahan isn't hitting the ball well either.

A's bust out some seriously sweet retros from the 1968 season as they win game 3 against the rangers:

special info specifically for KC...

with his game winning RBI single in the tenth last night, Emil Brown notches his 27th RBI of the season, good enough for second in the AL.

Brown picks up another RBI as the A's beat the Orioles again, this time 4-2. Duchscherer picks up his first win since coming off the DL in a solid outing, giving up 2 runs on four hits, two walks and four Ks through 7 innings.

Blanton faces Guthrie tonight as the A's try to sweep the series before finally getting a day off tomorrow

Harden also looked dominant in his final rehab stint in the minors, allowing only 3 hits through 6 innings. Keith Foulke should also be rejoining the team soon and it leaves questions as to who will be sent down.

Travis Buck is expected to rejoin the OF this weekend and sorry to say VKB, but it looks like Denorfia might be the odd man out and sent down to AAA ball.

and sweep you very much, Orals.

good evening, Baltimore.

Now I gotta wait til the A's come to town in September to see if I get verbally abused for bringing a broom to Camden.

Greg Smith takes the mound tonight as the A's travel to Arlington to face the Rangers. GO A'S!

Halos in Tampa for a 3 game series... GO RAYS!
