The Oakland A's- MLB's ACTUAL AAA team

Bill, did you ever read "Aces," the book about the Big Three's last year together?

It is on my short list of books to catch up on now that i'm about 16 hours from finishing up my master's degree.

Would you recommend it or "Blind Side" by Michael Lewis first?

I think they're both very good. "Blind Side" is, because of the subject matter, less of a fun read. Poverty and the cesspool that is college recruiting is heavier than three young guys, in the primes of their lives, having a blast.

thanks... probably start with Aces then, followed by Blind Side.

Pitching--

Hudson
Haren
Mulder
Zito

As a Cardinals fan, I wish the Mulder- Haren trade had never happened. Mulder gave St. Louis one decent season, but it's been all losses and injuries since. He should be back in about a month, so we'll see if he can turn it around.

losers of three of the last four, the A's are now in a tie for first with LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA at 9-7. Felix Hernandez gets the complete game win last night as the Mariners win.

as for the dodgers, **** 'em. Find or create a thread, they don't belong in Oaktown's thread.

11-8 after taking games 1 & 2 from the Royals (sorry KC and trut, okay not really). 1 game behind the halos for first in the west.

Best case scenario, we hold out for a another week and a half and finish april above water. Worst case, we go 0-6 next week and never get above water again.

Hannahanahanahanahan, Cust and Buck are all struggling mightily at the plate but Suzuki, Crosby, Emil Brown and Ryan Sweeney are looking pretty solid. Ellis not looking too bad either.

Seems as if the Sweeney and Brown pickups are paying off better dividends so far than I expected. Let's hope it continues.

Pitching needs to hold up and Harden and Duchscherer need to get healthy and stay that way.

I would like to say this win is bittersweet, but as we all know too well, once a player leaves UT, I couldn't care less unless they play on my favorite team.

A's rock Hochevar with a series of base hits en route to a 7-1 win and a sweep of the Royals.

Alright, I'm here to face my music. I believe somewhere earlier in the offseason I predicted a Royals sweep of the A's. All I can say is oops. Didn't really get to see any of the games, but we are definitely sliding now while Chicago is taking hold of the central.

Our move to start Hochevar for game 3 solidified the sweep. He is good mind you (or will be good), we just didn't have the run support to help a pitcher who is pitching right at hitters.

Anyway, we are on a 4 game losing streak and 3-7 in our last 10 games. I feel my old Royals are back.

The A's seem to be on the up (a series with the Royals has that affect on many teams) and I hope you guys beat out the Angels. I hate the Angels for some reason. No hard feelings Bill...
