But if Pearl was here, what would the situation be? a bare cupboard or just rebuilding? Regardless, basketball is so much less sophisticated than football. any group of 5 boys can beat any other group of 5 boys. Cuonzo in these first few games has shown a little bit of the future under his watch. I mean we prolly are gonna lose out on Stokes. I've never seen us going all-in or betting our bank on one recruit. What else is he doing that is trying to make us a better team for the future.

That's what happens when the admin ****s up the firing of Pearl. Martin has had 0 time to recruit the 2012 class. Stokes in the only one they are in on. Martin, instead, is focusing on the '13 and '14 classes, because they aren't a loss cause like '12 is.

But thats my point. He needs to make sure he covers his butt this next offseason in recruiting cause I think he isn't guaranteed 2013. We just came off our best ever year and run in the tourney to prolly at 14 win or less season. If 2013 isn't a tourney season then he is gone. This isn't anything like the Dooley thing sayin he had zero time to recruit. He should be able to coach who he has. A lotta people are still peeved at Bruce's firing especially since we were coming off an elite 8 run. Yes I know that was 2 years ago but last year was the biggest bunch of hypocritical mess I have ever seen. I hope for success in our hoops program but to say that Martin has 2013 and 2014 for sure is not a safe bet.

If this is true Hart should fire Martin today. Martin should be recruiting every minute his is not coaching. And after looking at the results against AP, he should have plenty of time to recruit.

Basketball isn't like football in terms of recruiting. If Martin is a decent recruiter, he has had plenty of time to get some talent in the 12 class.

Not sure if serious....it is very true that martin had little time to recruit, and the ncaa took its time putting out our penalty.

You are correct about one thing, basketball programs can be turned around quickly. Youth is much less of an excuse and differentiating factor. That said, id suspect recruits to want to see martins system and pace before deciding where they want to go.

If you were serious in your post, then I'm very thankful you are not in charge of anything I'm affiliated with.

You aren't understanding. 90% of the top 100 players have committed and signed LOI to their schools. He can't just show up and get them to commit to him. They want to see his program, his schemes, etc.

He is putting all of his eggs in Stokes basket because he doesn't have time to forge new relationships with other recruits. He is focusing on the '13 and '14 classes because he has a chance to make those big classes.

Who said we didn't play Texas in Pearls 1st year. This from Wikiped: Expectations were low for the Vols in Pearl's first season. Having lost their two leading scorers from a team that had been just 14–17 the previous season, Tennessee was picked to finish fifth in the six-team Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference. However, the season started off well, and Tennessee entered the national rankings in December, when it routed then No. 2-ranked Texas, 95–78. I'm not sure why the guy would lie to try to make a point.

Martin will get 5 years. You had better hope he can coach a whole lot better than what we have seen so far because we are stuck with him for a long time. What I have seen so far is a total lack of dicipline on this team throwing up wild shots by the guards and refusing to play any defense. They also seem to be in very poor condition laying down in the last few minutes instead of really putting on the defensive pressure like Pearls teams did.

Anybody who can't see the talent on this team simple doesn't know anything about basketball and has no ability to judge talent. The problem is not with talent but with coaching. There is no way in hell that this TN team should have lost to AP.

Do you think the NCAA could possibly reduce Bruce Pearl's punishment? I don't know if we can wait two more seasons to fire Martin. :twocents:

I love BP but there's no way he's coming back. If your scenario happened and BP was hired back, who are his assistants? He couldn't get the old crew back together, so who would come work for him knowing they would always have a big NCAA target on their backs? BP is (unfairly though it may be) radioactive and UT will never go near him again.

You understand Martin has coached before right? UT is not his first gig. Coaches recruit non-stop for whatever school is writing their checks at the time.

But I guess you want to treat Martin like he's new to recruiting and give him time to find kids that fit his style.

He should have been recruiting kids for years. He's just changed addresses. He's not creating some new unknown style of basketball that noone's ever seen before.

You guys are pretending that kids commit to a school and not the coach. This is college BB we're talking about here.
