The Obligatory Post-loss Bruce Pearl thread (merged)

But he didn't fire him swiftly. Do you not think of all the things that finally got Hamilton gone was the Bruce thing. He made a commitment to Bruce by giving him a second chance, which as a human being I admire and think is the right thing to do. I think everyone realized how bad of a judgement of character HamiltIon is/was for UT. Why do you think he got Martin/Dooley as coaches. I seriously doubt it was because of money. I can buy the whole top coaches didnt wanna come here, but I truly believe Hamilton could live and work as an AD with two mid major coaches who do nothing but win in the ethical department and are sub par and might be a blessing in the win/loss department.

Hamilton tried to keep Pearl on to save his own ass.

If he can't get the job done, he should be fired. 8 games is nowhere near enough to make that call.

True but a lotta of the reason and backing people have to compare Martin vs Pearl is because look what Pearl did before he came to UT. What did Martin do. Had a losing record in the MVC, went to the NIT his only winning season in conference, lost in the first round of the CBA postseason tourney or whatever 3rd tier tourney is. I understand the years coaching is heavy on Bruce's side, but the big thing that Bruce did at all his Head coaching and assistant coaching gigs was Consistency.

Martin turned around a dead program.

Bull****. it's better late than never

So you think Hamilton continually coming out and supporting Pearl and then firing him was ok? Even though I think lying is everywhere right now and think we should have kept Pearl, if he was fired it should have been at that point. Kinda goes back to my thought that there must have been something that fans don't know about.

I disagree. The risk of something bad happening was greater with keeping Bruce rather than closing the door on him and cutting ties. There was way more Risk than reward when he back Bruce and he caught the bad end of it. I do have some appreciation for MH because he is willing to give Bruce a second chance because thats what all humans should do.

No, he should have fired him to begin with, but like I said, he was trying to save his own ass. Mike Hamilton was one of the worst ADs any of us will ever witness

I have no appreciation for Hamilton because he is an idiot who has no business running a McDonalds, much less a multi million dollar athletic department

So going 61-41, 20-28 in conference, one NIT appearance and winning a 3rd or 4th postseason tourney is turning around a dead program. SMH

:ermm:

Oh give me a break. You want to pimp a guy who took over for Bo ****ing Ryan and then take Martin's record at Missouri St. completely out of context. On top of that, you defend the AD that oversaw the destruction of the football program. Shut the hell up

Well, I've had the unfortunate events in my life where I can't completely say I hate someone or turn my back on someone. You can't always guarantee you can take back what you say and I hope you are never in that position. He gave Bruce a second chance and I will appreciate that, but that is it. I don't think MH was the best AD and I wanted him gone, but I will never say I hate the guy or wanted him dead.

No disagreeing there...he was a great fundraiser, that is why they kept him so long.

This is ridiculous, at least if you are going to blindly support a guy have facts right. Barry Hinson was there years before Martin and had many winning seasons including the year he was fired. He also went to the NIT, which is the exact same accomplishment Martin had..

Barry Hinson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yeah, Hinson left that program in great shape, thats why he was fired and martin's first team won 11 games. So, what did they do after that? I'll wait

All I asked is what Martin has done because alotta people make the arugument against him and for Pearl simply because of how consistent Pearl's career was in the winning department. Did I ever take a stance on Martin or Pearl? You made it very clear that you have a "Pearl is Trash" agenda, while I am just wanting to engage in a comparison conversation.

Also mr Emain, when did I ever defend MH for anything? All I said is that I appreciate his decision in that he was willing to give Bruce a second chance. I never said I like Hamilton, never took his side or pledged to a side.

Coaches make their careers on how they build their programs and even in Martin's third year he still couldn't make an NCAA tourney.

Where did I say that? He has every right to continue to exist as a slimy idiot

I don't care what Pearl did. He isn't here now, and for good reason. Martin may very well turn out to be a terrible coach, but to act like you know that now is ridiculous

Once again Martin took over a team that had at least been winning and had a losing season, eerily similar to this year.

Wow, sign me up for 10 more years of this success, I might be the only one at the games though.

What did Martin do in his second and third years after the first bad one. It's a simple question, just go to wikipedia like you did when you learned who Barry Hinson was five minutes ago

But to sit here and act like were not a national known Bball program because of Bruce is garbage. Yea he killed our program by HIS ACTIONS WHICH LEAD TO US LOSING OUR LEADER. I never said Cuonzo is a horrible coach. I just think its funny how quickly people discredit someone's work to make our program a national known program just because of the "WHY" their not here no more.

I will admit he did make improvements, but you think a 1-1 NIT record and winning a CBA postseason tourney is a good enough resume for Tennessee Volunteers Basketball Coach?

no, I don't. Doesn't mean he can't be successful. Your boy Hamilton hired him. I wanted about 10 other coaches ahead of him

Yeah, no one knew who Tennessee was when Jerry Green had them in the top five
