I watch people for a living. The crap I read here qualifies as "research."
Just would like more of an educated debate than a pissing contest. I don't like to work during my off time.
Like I said, this forum used to be my favorite to visit for the information, which, by the way, used to come from such informed posters like Hat and yourself. Just let some of it go.
I agree completely. Until you make a splash in the tournament and get some kids to the NBA, all the great ones are looking at the above schools prior to looking at TN. Pearl has done a good job in recruiting considering our history. However, he now has the challenge of doing something with this talent.
"Top programs" don't struggle to make the 'AAs out of the Mountain West. It's not even the best job in that league. Hell, it's probably fourth or fifth. It's not a top program. Tark built the legend and killed it when done. It's a reasonable job, but beneath Kruger IMO, but that happens to job hoppers.
We've made the splash, and well have kids drafted this year. I agree its a bit frustrating. But how long has he had to do something with this talent. Not how long has he been at UT, but how many years has he had a very talented group? This is his 2nd year with really good talent imo. Last year they had no chemistry, (understandable) now if he has this kind of talent (haRris) for another 4 yrs and can't progress, then ill be a little more on board.

spelling errors notwithstanding . . . I'm on board the B-Train!
He generates excitement, and puts a marketable product on the floor. At the end of the day, that's the only thing that matters to 90% of orange blooded Americans. An elite 8 or better performance every 10 years, with an annual appearance at the dance is fine.
Now, if CBP fails to meet this purely subjective/arbitrary definition of success, I will happily jump off the B-Train.
Yeah, everyone loves paying millions per year for a marketable product.
Its a good thing you really do have your finger on the pulse of UT basketball fans.
Unless I'm wrong, I sense sarcasm in your post. But a "marketable product" on the floor IS what most UT basketball fans want. We set records for attendance because the program, as it exists now, is eminently marketable. Marketable to the fans that pay for the tickets and the players that CBP is attempting to lure into the fold. Its exciting. There is always a feeling, even when our half-court offense is sputtering, that we are one dunk, turnover, or fast break away from greatness. At the end of the day, so long as UT basketball is fun to watch and enjoys a moderate degree of success, 90% of UT fans are going to be content with the state of the program.
