Unless I'm wrong, I sense sarcasm in your post. But a "marketable product" on the floor IS what most UT basketball fans want. We set records for attendance because the program, as it exists now, is eminently marketable. Marketable to the fans that pay for the tickets and the players that CBP is attempting to lure into the fold. Its exciting. There is always a feeling, even when our half-court offense is sputtering, that we are one dunk, turnover, or fast break away from greatness. At the end of the day, so long as UT basketball is fun to watch and enjoys a moderate degree of success, 90% of UT fans are going to be content with the state of the program.
If 90% of your fan base desires nothing more than to be marketable and talk each year about how they "almost did this" and "almost did that", then thats sad. Though I notice you have 10 posts and your new around here, so its obvious you have yet to see the divide.
The past does have a lot to do with expectations though. If Bruce Pearl gets a Final 4 this year, but in 2011 flames out with Ware and Hopson as a senior and T Harris (who if he is not one and done was not guided properly IMO) then more people will be angry with Bruce!

I think that is the whole driving force behind this war about Pearl.
His first 4 years have been good, maybe great compared to recent UT hoops success. But now the honeymoon is over so to speak, and those becoming accustomed to that level of success are starting to see the bigger picture. "Were paying our coach more". "We have good recruiting classes." "We should be at this level all the time."
Nobody (other than Hat) seems to hate Pearl, but several (including myself) feel that at this point UT has reached their ceiling if certain changes aren't made in his coaching philosophy and discipline. If Bruce were to make a final four, it would buy him some time. But honestly, I don't see them in a final four anytime soon. UT will continue to rack up 25 win seasons and 2 and 3 seeds in the tourney, but thats going to be the extent of it I'm afraid.
And not to rain on the parade, but Tobias Harris is not a one and done player. He will be a great college player and will play in the NBA, but he is not one and done. His physicality has some work to be done, IMO.
+ 1,000,000,000,000i agree with 85% of your post. My argument would be that we should appreciate the fact that we are where you say we should be all the time. Bc we weren't before. I agree bp needs to continue to have progressive success going forward. But people turn what he should do in the future (they think he can't) into what he hasnt done it may very well be that he can't progress past our current strides, but our current strides are the right strides. And i'm glad he got us to where you say we should be. If one thinks we should be here then bp is merely achieving, if one thinks we shouldn't be here then one probably thinks he's overachieving. No?
