I couldn’t name you one coach who could come in a turn this around in year one or even year that we realistically have a shot at.
this is the mind set that has ruined us over the last 2 decades. If they would show the same cahones it took to keep Barnes in football they could have hired a Proven Winner. They didn't, thus another 'Shot in the Dark' hire.

I agree with this, but I will say that the pool of candidates that are worth the kind of money it would take to “hire a proven winner” is very shallow. Even more shallow when you consider the number of those guys who would be willing to leave their current situation, and/or that we could significantly outbid enough to entice them to leave.

At that point, you’re talking about half a handful of people. We couldn’t outbid Bama or Clemson enough to get Saban or Dabo. Same for Lincoln Riley at OU. Jimbo Fisher and Chris Petersen, maybe sway Stoops out of retirement, that’s about the extent of your candidates worth $8-10 mil/yr.

At some point, just throwing money around doesn’t work because you inevitably overpay a coach who isn’t worth it. Sometimes finding the right guy involves a lot of luck and good fortune. Recently, we have come woefully short in that department as it relates to football coaching hires.

The fans will stop going. It doesn't have anything to do with the #empty movement. Who wants to pay to watch another blowout? There will be a sea of red at the Georgia game.

I think UT fans will still show up to the SEC games, at least well enough. There will still be about 95K for Miss St. and SC. But UAB will likely be one of the lowest attended games in a long time. UAB will only bring a few thousand fans and by then we likely will be 1-7. I'm thinking that it will be around 70,000, which is still good for a college game but very bad for Neyland. And the Vandy game might be worse. since both teams will very likely be out of bowl contention (us definitely).

I’ve always thought of myself as above the 9th grade dropouts in the FB forum who spew hatred towards players and call for the coach to be fired or start the empty Neyland crap after every loss... but this is bad. I just don’t see how you come back from a season like this if you’re Jeremy Pruitt. That said, I’ll continue to support the team like I always have and I hope he proves me wrong.

I get really triggered when close-minded fans spread CONSTANT negativity about the program or say hateful things on social media to guys like JG. Even though we suck we still have an incredible gameday experience, let’s not forget that.

I hope none of this Empty Neyland stuff catches on. Why are we even thinking like that? An empty stadium only reflects poorly on the fan base. We should be checkering Neyland, not emptying it! The product on the field might be bad but that’s no reason for acting like an entitled little girl and boycott the team. If you don’t want to go to the game that’s fine, but give your tickets to someone who doesn’t normally get to go to the games. We’re all disappointed in the team this year but it says a lot about a person when they whine and boycott when something doesn’t go their way. Life’s not fair, you could die tomorrow, the next game could be your last. Why waste your days being upset with something you can’t control?!

Anyone who attacks players on social media are idiots. And yes the EmptyNeyland stuff is dumb.

Having said all that, I grow tired of diehard Pruitt defenders. He's going to get a 3rd season, so that's not even a debate. But I grow tired of people saying he needs 5 years and inherited a mess....a mess that wasn't being talked about a month ago.

I’ve grown tired of the entire fball program. Great fan support and they throw tons of money at it and they’re still a dumpster fire that can’t even get to the level of competitive. Just not much fun to watch a team that’s so completely terrible.

If they can just cut down on the stupid mistakes it would be a different season. There must be 8 or 10 times that drives were stopped or extended by idiotic penalties. Plus throw in several key players getting suspended or hurt, JG regressing, and some Butch-like play calling and the season is in the ****ter. 2nd and goal at the 3... why is Chaney calling pass plays and putting it on JG? The O-Line is better than last year and the D-Line is playing better than expected, yet overall the team is turning in possibly the worst performance in history. Unexplainable.

I don't know if it was Freak but I do remember he got into it with several people right before he left. Most of the argument got deleted and I'm pretty sure it was about his favorite current Vols BB coach. I do think I remember Freak publicly addressing Ziti on here and offering to talk offline/via email about it but since Ziti never came back I don't know how that went.

I think I got into a discussion with him. Hopefully, I didn't contribute in running him off. He was just critical of Barnes' recruiting. If he would have remained patient, he might still be here to celebrate the 2020 class with us.

I'm asking Pruitt to not be stubborn, learn from his mistakes, and get better as a head coach. Fulmer had Peyton Manning and a national championship level team and lost to a horrible Memphis team. **** happens.

Losing to Georgia State at home first game of the year and getting blown by 31 to Florida isn’t just a **** happens kind of thing.

They made lots of mistakes and GA State exploited the weak spots. GA has a couple of O-Linemen that will be in the NFL and a very good RB. TN wasn't prepared and didn't have an answer. **** happened. Fulmer losing to Memphis was worse.

They’re a sunbelt team that went 2-10 last year and lost by 47 to Western Michigan man. That’s just terrible excuses.

It’s unacceptable. Period.

Not that it excuses the loss, but Fulmer and Co. can at least point to a horribly blown call of Kevin Cobb not being ruled down on the kickoff return that was the difference in that game on the road.

Pruitt and his team got whipped by a 2-10 Ga. St team in Neyland Stadium on opening day in a game that wasn’t really close except for a last second, meaningless TD.

To me, that is the most embarrassing loss in school history. Memphis loss might be in the top 5, but nowhere near the level of embarrassment as losing to GSU.

And just lost in 3OT to Texas St., who hadn't won yet this year. The Memphis loss was only worse in the sense that it cost us a BCS bowl. It also was an obvious fluke. Considering we're staring at a very possible 2-10 season ourselves, the GSU loss is looking much less than a fluke and more of a statement of how bad we are. Also saying we didn't have an answer to Georgia Freakin St. is damning itself.

Exactly. If we were 2-2 or 3-1 I’d be more willing to listen to excuses but all I see is a team that is major regressing

You get afforded a few when you have equity and your a favorite son. When your’e a Bammer?

I was critical of him too. Sometimes you just have to admit you were wrong and move on.

That Memphis team would have lost to the GA State team that was in Neyland 3 weeks ago. Fulmer's TN team with Peyton Manning would have destroyed this TN team. The Memphis loss was much worse. There was far more at stake.

At some point you can’t make excuses, and you just have to admit they aren’t very good, which ultimately falls on the HC. As others stated if you lose to GAST but then beat BYU, and look like you belong against Florida then maybe...but right nor they look like a 2-10 or 3-9 football team, so why make excuses!

They're back to using the youth excuse again. But, even young players will at least act like they want to be on the field and compete somewhat. Only game so far they competed was BYU.
Nooga looked like a Juco so ain't countin it.

Idc how young they are, shouldn’t lose to GAST, they’re just bad.
