I don’t buy that. He obviously knew this before the game.I don't think that Barnes was easily accessible with the post game TV interview, impromptu locker room celebration for #700, CRB having to change his clothes after being drenched with water by the team as he entered the locker room, the post game radio show, being shuttled off to his media presser, and then planning to rush off and catch a plane. Turner's announcement was very informal. He just kind of told those interviewing him, "by the way, that was my last game as a Vol".

Not sure why it had to be announced that afternoon. Just seems odd. People normally get pissed when it’s the other way around and players find out their coach is leaving the program through the media. He decided before the game, but didn't necessarily think through how it would be announced. Typically Barnes probably hangs around the basketball offices after home games. Instead he had plans to get the hell out of Dodge and go see his grandkids.

I’m sure LT wasn’t thinking about the 1978 PR debacle. Anyway I just think it’s odd. LT is a UT alum and VFL for life. He means a lot to this program and I hope everything is good between him the university and Barnes. It didn't have to be announced that way, that's how he decided to go about it.
The UTAD Public Relations group screwed up honoring the 1978-79 SECT champions. They missed it by a year, they funnel them onto the court without any introductions, they hurry them off of the court for some dumb trampoline performance. They play a video AFTER the trampoline exhibition had ended. They also have the published game notes comically full of incorrect information just about every game. They clumsily throw up a Fulmer congratulatory video (the audio was initially muted and then not understandable) after the final whistle of CRB's 700th win. The presser after Kiffin announced he was leaving was an absolute clown show. I don't blame LT one bit for not turning it over to them to orchestrate another **** show of an event. He simply sat in front of the media gathered around him looking for his post game comments and said he was done. I kind of liked his approach.

I think Jordan Bowden has NBA skills and thought he would show it, this year. So far, I've been wrong. Now, with Turner done for the year, it's another chance for Bowden to grab the brass ring and shine. I think we will know next Saturday against Wisconsin, if Bowden is willing and able to make it, "His Team". Honestly, I'm afraid Bowden will never be the alpha Dog, I really hope I'm wrong
Wrong!! We just lost our best on the ball defender. Other PG's are gonna live in the lane. I suspect we will see a noticeable drop off on the defensive end. On offense I can see us being ok against teams that don't pressure that much like a Wisconsin or past versions of them. Haven't seen them this year. I'm glad we are seeing a team like that this weekend instead of a team like Auburn.Just like Fulky and Pons have stepped up this year, and become better players, I would expect (hope) that some of the younger guys would be able to step up and become leaders on the floor. We certainly don't have much time before league play, but this is still doable.
I'm most worried about safely getting the ball up the court, and getting the team into the correct play. As long as we can do that, we will be OK. The biggest issue is that we have one less experienced player to count on. Will we run out of timeouts before the end of the game, with Barnes just trying to calm everyone down, and getting them on the same page?
As was said above, hopefully the SEC is having a down year, and there will be other teams in the same boat as us. I haven't really kept up with the other teams, so I have no idea.
We have plenty of players with the ability score. 12 points a game is not that hard to replce. We have plenty of height on this team (not discounting our center/post issues here). Losing Turner doesn't change that. It is just a matter of getting younger players to perform up to their abilities. Again, a calming influence and another body, is what we are losing most here, not the ability to defend, score, rebound, etc.
I wish Turner would just decide to play one more game and treat it like a senior day for him. This would fire the team and the fans up and give us a boost in a very important game. I remember we had a d lineman one year that did this against Florida. Announced he was having season ending surgery after the game. Fans rallied for him. Sorry but I can't remember the name.

I think we will eventually adjust defensively and get back to the same level but it might just not happen quick enough to savage this season.I agree we will get taken advantage of by pressing teams. I just don't know how we have kept so many teams under 65 points a game without a team full of decent defenders. Maybe I am wrong about this part, and certainly freshmen are going to have mental lapses, but I just don't see this as our biggest problem.
Agree, it's like they are in complete denial. Taking your best ballhandler out of an already struggling offense and your best on ball defender from the defense. It's a death nail. We will have some moments moving forward but the absolute best case scenario with Barnes being a genius is NCAA bouble.God there are absolutely some delusional people that think somebody is going to magically replace what Turner does.
We can definitely beat Wisconsin. We are at home and they are not very good.Interesting factoids: Wisconsin has won every home game this year - and lost every away game. They are 6-5. They play Tennessee at Thompson-Bowling Arena this year.
Taking this one game at a time, there is a sliver of hope.
A big part of what’s been making our D effective this year has been Pons challenging so my shots at the rim. Besides Bowden, who else is quick enough to stay in front of a quality penetrating guard now that LT is gone? Is either Johnson or Gaines quick enough because Pember and ORN aren’t. CRB may be forced to move Pons out to defend quick guards on the perimeter which would pull him away from the rim. Guess we’ll see?I think we will eventually adjust defensively and get back to the same level but it might just not happen quick enough to savage this season.
Pember has very good feet for a player his size. I've seen him hold his own against smaller wings on several occasions.A big part of what’s been making our D effective this year has been Pons challenging so my shots at the rim. Sorry - there’s no way Pember can stay in front of a quality SEC penetrating type guard. He’s almost 7’ tall. His length can help on the perimeter, but he’s not shown the quickness to stay in front of smaller guys.Pember has very good feet for a player his size.
