He’s very inconsistent finishing in the paint. I don’t consider that “shooting”! Bone struggled mightily the same way early in his career

If he’s not driving to the rim, wouldn’t they be jump shots?

James has improved his shooting the last few games, but saying his shot is inconsistent is fair. He was 1-6 against Jacksonville State.

His 3 pt shooting is very consistent
Damn good

Lately, agreed. Whatever he did to fix his shot has helped. But it's also a small sample size of 5 games. He had a 3 game stretch earlier in the season where he was 0-7 from 3. Overall I've said already that I think James is fine and has improved/is improving well.

I was just saying it was/is fair to say his shooting has been inconsistent, because it has been up until the last 5 games. I'm hoping what we're seeing now is who JJJ is though and he'll just get better at finishing at the rim.

Need to beat Vandy tomorrow. Moving forward & on to the next game. Georgia needs to be left in the past, can't change anything about that game now.

Ok, we have Bowden and Turner leaving after the season. We're bringing in three. Does that mean we have to make room for one next season? Also, for the next class, he many can we take? I know we lose Fulkerson, Pons,???? How are we looking for that class? Is this season hurting us in regards to recruiting?

The Florida game at the end of next month could end up being a recruiting showcase for the Vols. Two names we’re hearing right now as potential official visitors from the 2021 class are five-stars Jabari Smith and Harrison Ingram, the No. 3 and No. 14 rated players in the nation in that class. If the Vols manage to get them to campus, and right now it sounds like there’s at least a decent likelihood of that happening, that will be an impressive list of juniors that they will have gotten on campus this year, joining No. 2 overall player Paolo Banchero and No. 11 Kennedy Chandler. Tennessee continues to keep close tabs and remains in contact with both Banchero and Kennedy. It goes without saying that with the competition they’re facing with both that they’re going to be tough pulls and if we were handicapping things it seems that Kennedy is the more likely to end up in orange.

We currently have 12 on scholarship following Kent's transfer and the addition of Vescovi. We entered the season with one unused scholarship.

We graduate Turner and Bowden, which leaves 3 open scholarships for 2020, one each for Springer, Johnson, and Walker. That would currently have us scheduled to be full going into the 2020-21 season.

There is still a possibility that someone transfers out. Best possibilities seem to be Jalen Johnson as a grad transfer, or one of the current freshmen that may see the writing on the wall. Also an extremely small chance that Josiah Jordan James enters the draft. All of that is speculation, at this point.

If everything stands pat, we go into next season with...
SR: (r)J. Fulkerson, (r)J. Johnson, Y. Pons
JR: (r)V. Bailey
SO: (r)U. Plavsic, J. James, S. Vescovi, O. Nkamhoua, D. Gaines, D. Pember
FR: J. Springer, K. Johnson, C. Walker

As of today, and again, all things staying as-is, we can take 3 in the 2021 class, as Fulkerson, Johnson, and Pons all graduate. We are in in some big names, particularly Paolo Banchero, Kennedy Chandler, Harrison Ingram, and Carter Whitt. This season was always going to be a bit of a rebuild. Recent events have only further demonstrated that, but the good news is that it comes sandwiched between the best two-year run in school history in terms of wins, and perhaps the best signing class in school history. So, barring a total face plant, there should be little to no effect on the 2021 class. There is still a lot of promise to sell to recruits.

Isn't basketball 13 scholarships?

We only have 12 on scholarship right now.

'21 we will have 3 for sure, and people still expect/assume Springer is a 1 & done.

Still, '20 and '21 both should be really good seasons.

'20 - James (so), Santiago (so), Plavsic (r-so), Olivier (so), Gaines (so), Pember (so), Bailey (r-jr), Springer/Walker/Keon (fr) Pons (sr), Fulky (r-sr), Jalen (r-sr) (our 13)
'21 - James (jr), Santiago (jr), Plavsic (r-jr), Olivier (jr), Gaines (jr), Pember (jr), Bailey (r-sr), Springer/Walker/Keon (so) with 3 spots to fill with Paolo, Chandler, Ingram, Whitt and other recruits high on the radar

Other names in the '21 class that I think we're still interested in:
SF - Randy Brady (GA .9312 composite)
PG - Khristian Lander (IN .9955 composite)
PG - Zion Harmon (KY .9858 composite)
SF - Trey Patterson (NJ .9861 composite)

I want Chandler (#15 overall PG and a Memphis kid), Ingram (#16 overall SF Texas kid), and Paolo (#3 overall PF from Seattle)

It's exciting and I think the success of next season will be more important to these recruits than what we're doing this year.

Also, I know it's another "project" player, but if we managed to find a spot for '20 class I'd like to see us take Akeem Odusipe from Knoxville Catholic. (could also help us land BJ Edwards in the '22 cycle)

Not sure if the staff wants or has even scouted him though, I'd hope so though him being a local kid that by all accounts loves UT.

Randy Brady is a kid whose stock has fallen off of a cliff. Not sure how hard we are pushing there. He transferred out of Nashville to McEachern in Atlanta where Dyland Cardwell (the 2020 big man we are still pursuing) also transferred to.

Lander is a kid Tennessee would love to land, obviously, but he seems most likely to end up in the midwest somewhere. I expect one of either him or Zion Harmon to end up at Louisville.

Haven't heard much on Patterson other than we have offered.

I would imagine most of those kids will be committed and signed well before next season plays out. But I also don't think this season will necessarily hurt us unless we really collapse.
