The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

The family’s of the “old people” are the fan base. He can piss them off, get fired, and collect $8,000,000. It’s a no-brainer and nothing profound. Those families are loyal to UT. Danny White is a short timer at UT.

They are not “the fan base” they are a small part of it. And that’s what I like about White and what we’ve needed. He is going to do what’s best for the AD, if that makes some people mad, then that’s fine. He’s not going to be fired for a long time as long as Donde and Boyd are at UT. And you have nothing to prove he’s gonna be a short timer except your hopes and wishes.

Correct…that’s exactly what I was saying. Unfortunately @golfballs seats are where the highest level seats are now going to be going, he can move to similar seats at probably a cheaper price than he’s currently paying, but his current location is about to be the highest dollar ticket in the stadium.

This is pissing off a small fraction of the fan base, I get why, and for some it does suck…but the deal was a horrible deal and for the betterment of the AD this is a smart move. It’s also smart to go ahead and do it now while they’re displacing a bunch of folks for the club level anyways, might as well do it all at the same time.

Can I? I like my seats. However they’re not going to boot others out of their seats. So even though I’ve given the university a lot of money since I graduated and purchased those seats, I’ll be left choosing among what’s leftover in other areas if I don’t pony up $20,000 per year. Ridiculous. I don’t know but I’m assuming that at my age I’ve donated much more than what’s normal since graduating, and with many more years left they’ve basically thrown it away by going about it like the way they have. They’re not making tax laws. It’s not like they can’t reach out individually like they normally do when they want money. Feels like they’re throwing the baby out with the bath water

Where your seats are is where the brand new club level terrace is going and premium seats, it’s unfortunate for you but you were losing your seats regardless of this new model. And yes, call the TN Fund, you will get comparable tickets for less than what you’re currently paying.

Yeah I get they’re putting those seats in but you’d think the AD could do better than to just boot good donors and tell them to get ****ed and back in the line. Also, based on the map they published I don’t think there are comparable seats at the same price. Maybe I’m in the minority, but if so that makes it even more reason they could reach out to donors like me to give us some decent options since we’re getting displaced. I don’t care so much that they’re putting in premium seats there but they are alienating plenty of good donors in how they’re handling it.

The “fan base” are the multiple generation fans. The short timers that will move on long before they put down roots anywhere close to those that families they are “pissing off”. It’s all about the Benjamins and it is a short term vision. I get it. Danny White has $8,000,000 in failure money sitting out there for the taking. If Heupel succeeds then Danny will go be Duke’s AD. If Josh can’t get TN above middle of the pack SEC mediocrity then he’ll ride off with his $8 million plus the millions in salary he collects first.

I’ll take it all back if TN does something tomorrow night that they’ve practically closed the books on. Pulling off a stunning upset.

Phil was still an OC and never been a HC before (minus the interim games). You can try and argue all you want about Phil’s credentials pre-1993 but Heupel’s 28-8 in the best non P5 conference for football>anything Phil did as OC.

So wait, if Heupel wins as many conference games as Pruitt yet lost 20+ players to the transfer portal and took over less than a week before signing day while under NCAA investigation that isn’t going to do it for you? Yeah okay.

Seriously? You’re using a comparison to Pruitt? What chu drinking tonight, Willis?

Bull Battle was 31-5 in his first 3 seasons. 3-0 in bowl games and 3 straight top ten final rankings. Versus SEC level competition. Just saying.

Shows your current is $1,700…similar sections next year are $1,500-$1,900

I'd bet on the latter happening with Tennessee's luck

Bingo. You’re gonna piss people off and that sucks, but they’re banking on the fact they’re going to gain new/younger donors/crowd.
Like @VolGee4 said, I'm OK with it in football because there hasn't been a promise put in place that the university is now weasling out of to people who put down the money to make TBA possible.

This is an overly simplistic example, but…

Current:
You have 27k people making no donation and buying tickets for $1,000

and

You have 27k people making a $5,000 donation and paying $500 for tickets

Total: $175,500,000

Proposed:
55k people making a $3,000 donation and paying $500 for tickets.

Total: $192,500,000

So for 50% of people the price goes down, for interested new parties the price goes down, only for those grandfathered in does the price go up.
For football or basketball? Because this model doesn't float for basketball.

Might want to start winning more for that to happen (in regards to football).

I don't think basketball will be a problem.

I’ve been discussing football…nobody has the details about basketball yet.
Well, my entire beef has been with the idea of taking basketball tickets from the original donors and their families, and you've argued the alternative perspective of that topic a number of times within this same discussion.

And I've also said I have no issue with changing the football model because to my understanding, there is no contract in place with current ticket holders.

The issue is that there is a revolving door of leadership. There is no long term vision… just grabbing as much cash as possible in the near term.

First world problem. The football program doesn’t seem like it will ever get back on track so there will always be cheap tickets in the secondary market.
Which is exactly the mindset that landed them with the lifetime season ticket and grandfathering situation they currently find themselves in with regards to basketball.
