Can't wait for Monday! Best thing about the Gonzaga blowout for me was seeing 2 things.

1. Our bigs are good, Uros has continue to develop, ORN looked to have no rust, Awaka is special, and Aidoo can be big for us this year
2. We don't need Santi to have a big game to score points no KC and no JJJ and still could have went over 100.

Key will be the key to use making it deep in the tourney. Allows Santi and JJJ not to have to shoulder the load and it makes up for losing KC, our leading scorer last year.

Last year we only had 3 players averaging over 10 ppg. This year I could legit see 5 players all averaging over 10 ppg; Santi, JJJ, Key, ORN, and Phillips. It'd be like the 2018-2019 team that averaged 82 ppg and had Grant, Admiral, Bone, Turner, & Bowden all averaging over 10 ppg.

How wild, you mention 5 guys scoring over 10 ppg and left off ZZ! Amazing the depth and talent Barnes managed for this team. I think they'll score closer to 80 ppg as well. I'm not sure if ORN will be a double double guy or not, probably won't get the volume to do it. I'd like to see him lead the team in rebounding though maybe be an 8/8 guy getting 22 mpg or more.

I'd say Santi, JJJ, Key and Phillips will push to be our leading scorers. ZZ will see more minutes as the primary PG so he'd be the 5th guy I'd say can hit 10 ppg.

Oh man I didn't mean to leave him off.

CatsIllustrated was already on meltdown, I can't imagine how much worse this made it. They already pivoted to "we'll kick their a** in basketball" and the best part was the other Cat fan posters who responded with "No we won't., they're good."
UK fans at the game on Saturday were hitching their wagon to Georgia and saying how bad they were going to beat us lol. One fan said well now it's time to focus on the Bengal's (then the Browns embarrassed them on MNF two days later hahaha)... UK fans are just straight up not having a good time right now.

Reading through the site it was hilarious reading their posts before the game; which weren't all terrible or outrageous and some were actually pretty level-headed. But reading after when nothing they said came true, was just a joy to read.

He will get fouled a lot, especially as the game goes on. I would think you can say pretty assuredly he will average > 10. Gainey said his 3-pt shot has improved and his range has improved.

Two straight years that UK didn't place a freshman on the preseason All-SEC team. It's about time that the media stopped just assuming greatness for those guys.
I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that we keep seeing the most experienced teams make deep runs, combined with the fact that we have more experienced players floating around (via transfer portal, covid year, grad transfer, more young guys going g league/other pro leagues) to major programs than we have ever had. The days of fielding a team full of freshmen and cake walking to the final four are behind us.

I think ZZ averages more PPG than Phillips…

Santi 13-14
Josiah 12-13
Key 11-12
Zeigler 11-12
Nkahmou 10-11
Phillips 9-10
Plav 5-6
Aidoo 3-4
Mashack 2-3
Total: 76-85

Not much argument with this...I think the 4 guards will all be clustered in that 10-15 range. Depending on how teams defend us, we could have a different "leading scorer" every other game probably.

I think Mashack could be our next JJJ, sounds like he has put in a lot of work this off-season. This team is one of the deeper ones we've had in awhile though. BJE, DJ, Awaka all not even on your list there.

I think there is certainly an element of truth to that, but they also got burnt by guys like Dakari Johnson, BJ Boston, Archie Goodwin, and Skal Labissière, who were all pretty good SEC players (at best), but nothing worthy of All-SEC honors. All hype, no substance had become an all too common theme. As you said, a little more credence is being paid to age, experience, and tangible production over projection.

Hopefully all 3 will buy in to a red shirt

Definitely agree. Should’ve added to mine that I think this reversal of mindset has really only happened the last 2-3 years, especially since COVID/Baylor running the table.

I think BJE & Awaka have no issue doing that, and I'm sure both have no issue playing this season if needed. DJ would be the one I'd be worried about transferring out, although I'm hoping the culture here and being around other athletes that are developing under Barnes (like JJJ has and like Mashack is) will keep him around.

After this season playing time will open up a lot, I think Olivier is the only likely senior that would return and Phillips might be a one and done if the season goes well for him.
