The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

Not sure why you think that, many players are doing that with this new model.

Players like Dillingham benefit off the spacing in pro schemes. I don't think he'll be as effective in the college game and I'm sure he knows that.

Just a personal thought - I think he kills it with OTE and signs with the G League if the NBA fails to change the one and done rule quick enough.

He will make more going to Kentucky than the G-League

And he'll likely make more as a rookie by going to the g league since he'll likely be drafted higher. If Scoota goes #2 I'm sure he'll use that as a reason to follow in his footsteps - considering Tyty, Chandler and JD all failed to be lottery picks.

There was 1 G-League lottery pick this year, history/data suggest college is the better route.

I’m not arguing your point, because I don’t know or claim to know what’s the better path.

But when you say “data suggests”, shouldn’t the pool of potential candidates be factored in?

as in, how many draft eligible G-leaguers were there vs draft eligible college players…

Yea, let’s ignore the college kids drafted Top 10 and also Kentucky guys drafted Top 10, it can be done either way…history actually suggests college route produces a higher draft pick than G-League.

The G League has produced 5 first round picks and 3 top 10 picks in 2 seasons, meanwhile UK hasn't had a one and done, or overall player (besides Sharpe) go top 10 since 2018, but ok.

Absolutely, there was definitely more than 1 though.

Me believing Dillingham's better option is playing pro is based purely off his play-style.

Sharife Cooper wasn't an efficient college player and it hurt his stock. Melo skipped college and never had to deal with being exposed.

G-League has gotten some elite guys for sure, but I don’t believe the idea that going there in proves draft stock over going to Kentucky. I get you hate Cal and you look for every chance to knock him or UK, I just don’t think this is one of those. Dillingham will end up at UK, he could’ve signed with OTE and been making $$$ this year if that was what he wanted to do, he bypassed that so he could still go to UK.

This take isn't based off my hate for UK.

Scoota is literally going to head to head with the best prospect since Kareem for #1. Dyson Daniels had 3 offers out of Australia. He was drafted #8.

not sure I understand

there are like 5k draft eligible college players any given year and maybe 20 draft elible g league players at most? So I’m just talking about ratios.

There is more nuance than that but, for instance, only higher end prospects go G league etc and that would skew the data. But just wanted to mention it’s not apples to apples in terms of raw numbers

I think BJE & Awaka have no issue doing that, and I'm sure both have no issue playing this season if needed. DJ would be the one I'd be worried about transferring out, although I'm hoping the culture here and being around other athletes that are developing under Barnes (like JJJ has and like Mashack is) will keep him around.

After this season playing time will open up a lot, I think Olivier is the only likely senior that would return and Phillips might be a one and done if the season goes well for him.
Plavsic will likely return if it is his decision.

Sweet. You have any thoughts about the Gonzaga exhibition? I know we aren’t supposed to read too much into it since it’s an exhibition but it’s hard not to get excited

Great sign imo…I think we benefited from a much more experienced team than they have, and that should benefit us early. My hope is we see a guy like Aidoo and Phillips continue to develop to continue to increase our ceiling because I think guys like Zeigler/Santi/Key/JJJ/Nkahmoua/Plav etc will pretty much be what they are, so to continue to improve as a team and raise our ceiling some of those guys need to continue to develop.

57%fg/66%2ptfg/46%3ptfg is elite type stuff offensively, I’ve felt good we will once again be a good 3pt shooting team but I said we had to improve the 2pt stuff as it was horrible last year, that was a good sign against Gonzaga.

For sure, as you mentioned G-League is taking best of best typically so yea, different than typical college program. My main point/contention was that I don’t think Dillingham going OTE means he won’t be at Kentucky next year as OP suggested, he went there because Donda closed down and it was a good option for him.

On another topic, I sometimes question why I venture outside of the basketball and baseball forums on this website. It’s like a radioactive wasteland filled with drama and idiocy.

A certain thread in the recruiting forum has been embarassing.

I have ventured back into the football forum but I am selective about what I post and respond to, and I go to the NFL forum on Sundays during Titans games. Other than that I kind of lurk. I'll hit the baseball forum closer to February when baseball starts back up.

I've tried to change my online self the past 6 months or so and I'm happier about it. I used to respond to everything I disagreed with or went after things I thought were dumb but started refraining because really what good does it do.? I still will post a snarky post every now and then but even those I'm trying to avoid. I was really tempted last week to set up a CatsIllustrated account and respond to a lot of the delusional ones but again....what good what that do?

Having said that, I'm going to have to remind myself of this come basketball season because basketball tends to really get me emotional, even more than football now and even after our dream season we're having.

Yup more losses in basketball since we play more games. I wonder if the crazies come out if we lose to UGA this weekend?

I'm going to guess no, since a loss doesn't mean no CFP spot.

But if we slip up against SC or Mizzou, then all bets are off.

The football forum is proof that humans are just slightly more evolved apes.
