I had a bad feeling about this game. I think UT being #1 in the Playoffs, really hurt us. We went from the hunter to the prey and we were not ready for it, especially on the road, their crowd brought it. Kirby coached his ass off, too. Now, I'm going to make an excuse, they have better talent and more big game experience. 11-1, baby! Need Oregon, TCU to lose and we are in, as long as Georgia doesn't slip up
Oregon and USC losing would put the nail in the coffin, but why would either of them jump us anyway? Oregon did far worse than we did against Georgia, and on a somewhat neutral field. We also have a win over Bama and a road win over LSU.
I think Texas handles TCU next week, and I honestly think TCU loses again after that, but we’ll see.

Curiously, Herbstreit now has Oregon at 4th and Tennessee at 6th in his next projections even though Oregon lost by 40+ to Georgia. This type of bias is what could make for trouble.

It's the "losing early" bias. Which overall I kind of agree with not necessarily holding early season performances against teams. Like if we played PItt again, we'd boat race them (imo of course). But Oregon is tougher to me because they were absolutely destroyed. If they had even just lost by 2 TDs I'd cut them more slack. But that was bad.

I also don't see TCU going undefeated, and make no mistake they have to go undefeated to have a shot.

How about USC? What if they end the year beating UCLA, Notre Dame, and Oregon?
chances are someone in the Pac12 has only 1 loss. Just not sure which team doing that is best for us.

USC would probably be the worst for us, with name value and all. They win out and are a one loss P12 Champion then they might get the nod over us.

IMO, the best case for us is for Ohio State and GA to go undefeated and everyone else have 1 or more losses. We’d be the only SEC team with one loss which has been good enough to get in the playoffs the last few years. At a minimum, we’d be competing with a one loss Michigan, one loss PAC 12 conf champ, possibly a one loss ACC champ, and possibly a one loss Big 12 champ. Does this sound right? Could we get one of those 2 slots from the 4 or so one loss teams?

It sucked watching obviously, but I'm not worried. We still have a very good chance to make the playoff, and I think another matchup with Georgia would end differently.

I don’t know if it would end up differently, but I know this is the first time in a very long time I’m enjoying football season again! We’re finally a relevant program again and have a decent chance to win a game against anybody. To me, anyone (not you Dal) who’s disappointed we didn’t go down to Athens and beat the defending champs is being unrealistic in light of where we were 1-2 years back and are like the morans who show up late in the basketball season thinking we had a bad season if we didn’t make the final 4.

I dont think its bias, its SEC fatigue. Kirk said on gameday that two SEC teams wouldnt get in. The media is going to do everything in their power to make sure that doesnt happen.

My only worry with this team is peaking too early.
I have similar concerns which is why I think Aidoo and Phillips are keys to watch…in large part I think Zeigler/Key/Santi/JJJ/Nkahmoua/Plav largely are what they are going to be, if Aidoo & Phillips can continue to improve and move towards their ceiling it would increase the ceiling of this team imo.

Not saying your wrong, but I’m a bit more optimistic.
ZZZ - just a sophomore so hopefully he’s still improving.
Key - new to the team and should still be learning to play with the other guys.
Santiago - hopefully as good as we saw last year.
JJJ - we going to get the last third of last season for a whole year?
ON - his shot looks improved so far and 12 boards against the Zags. Will we get a full season of this?
Uros - so far he’s clearly improved since last year. Can he do it all year?
Mashack and Aidoo look much improved - let’s see what happens.
Phillips appears to be the 5 star as advertised. Guy oozes talent

Maybe I’m getting caught up in the preseason performances, but I’m thinking this is CRB’s best team.

Not saying those guys aren’t better than last year, more so that I think they’ll be early in the year mostly what they are late in the year. I don’t think Vescovi makes a big jump between November to January, I think he’ll be mostly his best version from the go…same for most of the experienced guys. Same for Zeigler, I think he’s better than last year but don’t see him improving a bunch from 1st game to 25th game…I could be dead wrong, I just think the guys with the most room for growth/improvement probably are Mashack/Phillips/Aidoo.

This isn’t a bad thing necessarily, I think early in the year it will really benefit us to a hot start…just don’t want that to be our ceiling.

ZZZ definitely improving according to Gainey.

Agreed. That's what I thought you meant.

I'm also gonna agree with walkenvol. I think this has the potential to be one of our best teams ever. I said potential. They will obviously have to gel as a team, and peak at the right times.
