Every team goes through droughts during game in college, individuals are just looking for something to biatch about..

A “scoring drought” is even a mathematical inevitability.

If I cared enough, I could crunch the numbers based on FG% and some other stats to arrive at probability for how often they will occur and for how long on average

I gotta say I’m mostly just redneck mad that we’ve seen Dalton Knecht score 37 in the Dean Dome and 28 tonight and lost both games. Almost defies odds to go 0-2 in games with performances like that.
It's almost like he comes alive only when we are struggling to score otherwise amd we have to rely on him. He and ZZ combined for 54 of our 72 points. If we just had one other person show up on offense (JJJ, Vescovi, Aidoo) we likely win this game. In the final 3 minutes, MSU did all they could to take those two guys away, and they forced bad and/or contested shots.

The offense was frustrating, but im mostly annoyed with our defense. Yes, Hubbard going for 25 on some insane makes will probably not happen again this year. That said, we did not defend well at all for the majority of the game, even outside of Tolu kicking our asses inside. The only time we defended well was in the press. If we defend like we normally do, this is a 10+ point win. This miss state team nearly scoring 80 on our defense is unacceptable.

That loss was pretty frustrating, but if I’m looking for some hope and a positive development, maybe this will be the game that sparks Knecht to the SEC POTY type of player we know he can be.

I don’t know if he was just lacking confidence after he hit a wall in December, but he had some swag tonight when taking those shots in the 2nd half and was attacking the basket with authority.

Can’t say whether or not he’ll ever put it all together consistently, but it’s flashes like tonight and against UNC that shows he’s the best offensive player we have when he wants it…..

The officiating didn't help our effort, but our interior defense was abysmal. Aidoo gets pushed off his spot way too easily and Awaka still isn't disciplined enough to defend without fouling. 16 TOs is unacceptable too for a team that is so guard dominant.

Hope take aways for Barnes from this game are keep working on Aidoo/Awaka to defend without fouling as much as they do. Gainey minutes should go to Freddie and deal with occasional defensive lapses. He at least has floater game and can make layup. Cross fingers both Vescovi plus JJJ don't no show same game again.

When all else fails hit the emergency Knecht fuego button.

Really wish Barnes would get Estrella some runs in games like this. Outside of helping him develop, it would’ve been great if he could’ve gone in, banged for 2-3 mins in the first half, and eaten a couple fouls down low. Keeps from running the risk of losing both bigs late and you may get a surprising defensive burst. There’s virtually zero risk in tossing him a few minutes when Aidoo is playing this bad.

Aidoo only had 2 turnovers, but it felt like in the first half every time we passed to him in the post he got his pocket picked. His hands are so soft. The ball was bouncing around like a ping pong ball.

Our post play is a bit concerning in the sense that every team with a great big man has ate our lunch down low. It’s becoming a trend.

Thankfully Broome for Auburn last elite big vols will see in SEC. Who very well might cook Aidoo/Awaka. Kentucky really wing and guard heavy and same with bama.

Think berryvol alluded to this, but it’s time to get Estrella and/or Carr a few minutes every game. Aidoo has shown he can play well, but physical bigs aren’t his friend. Tobe does a lot of good things, but he’s limited with what he can do defensively. Need one of the two freshmen to start contributing.

Broome is going to bend them over a barrel and show them the 50 states. Luckily we are far superior to Auburn at guard and matchup well with Williams. And we are at home.
