The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

Second time in three years Bham has gotten opening round games. I’m sure they’ll bend over backwards to get Alabama and/or Auburn in there like they did 2 years ago when both played there in R64 and 32.

The NCAA is playing nice with the SEC and trying not to be removed from the college sports equation. It won’t hurt my feelings if they are shut down entirely.
It has been interesting to watch so many get mad at our laws and blame them for the current situation (which no one is happy with) instead of the corrupt institutions (NCAA and universities who created and stood by it) who broke the laws and basic moral ethics for many decades so they could unfairly profit.

Is that not weird framing that “the SEC” has won opening round games? I’m not going to pretend to follow the news release process for this stuff, but I don’t know if I have seen “the PAC-12” win contracts when early round locations are picked out West.

Maybe this is something that has always been done and I just wasn’t aware.

I'm on the same page as you.

I thought the same...I only recall cities being announced but maybe I haven't paid close attention and my mind is tricking me.

Barnes is by no means perfect but you'd be hard pressed to find a Barnes coached team to have total system failure like yesterday.
Yeah. I find it bizarre that Barnes gets 10X the heat than Heupel when you can count on a Heupel team coming out completely unprepared to play competent football at least twice a year in just a 12 game season

Especially at a football school.

Barnes gets some undue heat, but nothing like what's going on the FF

Not sure I agree with that, especially when you factor in what a regular season loss means in each sport. The stuff said about CJH right now I see about Barnes after we lose a game in January.

Neither are acceptable but a regular season loss in football still means a lot more than one in basketball; even with a 12 team playoff.

I’d add especially when it’s a team you’re supposed to beat like last night who isn’t going to have a good resume either. You can survive a loss or maybe even two to quality teams in the new playoff format. Losing to a team you were double digits favored over is not good.

We still control our destiny, but we have to beat Alabama or Georgia, and win out the rest. We lose to both Alabama and Georgia and you can forget the playoffs.

Bama and UGA? We gotta worry more about Florida and Kentucky. Heup lose this week to lame duck Napier/Florida I will have serious concerns about his long term abilities.

If we're losing to either of those teams we have no business even trying to pretend we're upper tier.

I know Kentucky won at Ole Miss but Ole Miss is like Missouri, they are pretenders until they prove they aren't. I'll give them they played UGA well but they also got curbstomped by SC. So far UK is following a typical Stoops script of doing well in a few games to give hope but he's already crapped the bed once and he'll do it again this season. Plus until I see otherwise, we own UK. They can only beat us when we're historially terrible and their best teams couldn't even beat bad UT teams under Stoop.

Florida, yeah they are always a problem for us but this is still not THE Florida. They are middle to lower pack and they have won 2 in a row but it's against probalby the worst team in the SEC (Miss St.) and a meh UCF team.

Vanderbilt, yeah they are improved and beat Alabama, that's also a once in a lifetime W. I mean it had been 40 years since they beat Alabama and the first time they had beaten a Top 5 team much less a #1.

Miss St. and UTEP are awful.

If Oklahoma doesn't turn things around and end up being a 9-win team, I'm not certain 10-2 does it for us with the loss to Arkansas. NC State is garbage, so we likely only have 2 shots at marquee wins outside of Oklahoma. Losing a game to a team we were -14 against really hurts the résumé. If we split those two, go 10-2, then I think an argument exists where we still may need some help. NC State being awful really hurts our schedule strength.

Danny White’s business model functions very well as long as the teams are winning games and accumulating championships. But I don’t expect there will be any tolerance for average results being scattered in. Putting up with mediocre football for a couple of decades will never come back.

College sports have been NASCARed.

The Texas game is always a crapshoot but looking at their schedule they probably will be 9-3 or more likely 8-4. And they were all but beaten at Auburn until Auburn went braindead.

So I'm not expecting them to be any better than 9-3 and yet may end up our best win; which yes would mean definitely on the outside looking in.

They are really delusional over there. Some want to bench Iamaleava and play Gaston Moore instead.

I haven’t seen many, or maybe any, comments about Bru McCoy going out early with an injury. The Nimrods and Squirrels just aren’t elite.

I wonder why UT didn’t run more 12. Especially after losing Bru. Maybe they anticipated Arkansas devoting a lot of time to defend it and UT’s coaches outsmarted themselves by not using it much.

Catch the dam punts and don’t run into the dam punter when it’s 4th and less than 5 yards to go.
