The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

We will need to show up tomorrow night. I don't think we will win if we don't bring a complete team effort, as we did against Auburn and Alabama. Please please please bring the heat, bois.

I sure don’t want to have to beat KY for an SEC championship on Saturday. Especially if KY could win and be co-champions.

Winning it ourltright would be a huge accomplishment. I truly think we will pull it off, but I'd be lying if I said I weren't a little worried. We will win if we bring it, book it.

I think TN wins easily unless the refs swallow their whistles when Knecht drives and call fouls on TN when the USCjr posts isolate and bang their way to the rim. If the refs put early fouls on Aidoo and Awaka it will be a struggle. Got to make all of those bunnies and free throws that were missed in the first game. And defend the 3.

We are too good to have to worry about the refs. There will be bad calls and missed calls, just like there are every night. A lot of those suspect calls/non-calls will be in our favor, just like every other game. TCOB, and we will win. If we don't come prepared and motivated, we can def lose.

Missed calls will happen. But the refs easily impact games on how they interpret what’s a foul. A couple of early cheap fouls on Aidoo and they will have impacted the game far more than they ever should. Same thing if they allow our perimeter players to be hacked and held.

We have def improved on defending without fouling this season. I keep coming back to taking care of business, and we will be fine. We won't have to worry about the refs if we play like we did against the teams from Alabama. I'm much more worried about S Carolina outplaying us, as they did in the first matchup.

I’d love to see an offensive foul or two called early when USCjr isolates their posts down low and bang their way backing to the rim. But I’d guess that Barnes has a good plan to deal with it.

I'd love to see fouls called as fouls and no-calls for mere physical offense vs physical defense (and vice versa). That won't happen at a 100% clip, as we both know.

Gotta stay up in Meechies grill…

It seemed nearly impossible at one point the way our schedule was lining up. Having to beat ranked teams on the road over and over is not where you want to be. One more mountain to climb.

So looking at the previous game... South Carolina was carried by 3 players

Ta'Lon Cooper - 18 points, 4 of 5 from deep
BJ Mack - 16 points, 4 of 15 FGs, but 7 of 8 from FT line (kinda got a favorable whistle the whole night)
Myles Stute - 13 points, 3 of 3 from deep (I don't like this douche, always seems to be celebrating like HE is doing something when he rarely shows up at all)

But really we lost this game because of our poor shooting outside DK & Santi. They combined for 15 of 31 FG (48.4%) 5 of 12 3PT (41.7%) the entire rest of the team (7 players) shot just 6 of 27 FG (22.2%) 0 of 9 3PT (0.0%)

I think based on that game and some recent success with playing both bigs we will see Awaka get more than 15 minutes, he was really productive against South Carolina. I also think Mashack will play more than 15 minutes since so much of South Carolina's offense comes from wing players with size. Murray-Boyles, Stute are both 6'7" and Cooper is 6'4" so to help with Cooper it wouldn't surprise me at all if we see more Mashack and they let DK play the stretch 4.

Honestly though if we hit the at the rim shots better we should be able to cruise in this game.

The loss to South Carolina earlier was a fluke, Tennessee really played a bad offensive game.

Couldn't finish at the rim and free throw shooting was horrible..

Really spot-on with all that. Basically, the game in Knoxville was a “perfect storm” scenario for SC. Everything went well for them and we just had a lot of things go poorly, and they still barely beat us.

Paris has done a good job this year, but he’s obsessed over the rankings and it’s driving him nuts. Also, I think it was Tom Hart who mentioned on one of the Gamecock broadcasts that Paris made a comment something to the effect that “everyone talks culture all the time, but we live the culture.” The obvious insinuation seems to be that we, or any other school, don’t live the culture. No one lives the culture more than Tennessee.

He seems like a bit of an ego guy, wouldn't surprise me if he ends up imploding when things turn south again. Easy to say what you want when you're winning, but that quickly turns on you when you're losing (Butch Jones, Shane Beamer, etc.)

Also I'm not sure how they live the culture at all...

BJ Mack = Transfer, 1st year there
Myles Stute = Transfer, 1st year there
Ta'Lon Cooper = Transfer, 1st year there
Murray-Boyles = Freshman, 1st year there

So maybe if his culture is to bring in new faces to try and find the right combination to not lose then they are living it... Meechie Johnson & Jacobi Wright are the only 2 players that saw 15+ mpg last year that returned to see 15+ mpg this year too.

Well-said. The proof is in the pudding.

If we win tonight, I know we clinch the SEC regular season championship outright. So does that mean we would cut down the nets and celebrate at South Carolina tonight or wait until the Kentucky game? How does that work?

So just to be clear, we've already won at least a share of the regular season championship. But no one cuts nets for regular season titles, we will hang a banner though!
