I woke up this morning, just in awe of the level of success Tennessee is having in all sports. I wasn’t sure when I was growing up in the 90’s I would ever see that here again when we entered the “dark ages” but man it’s something special. I hope at some point one of these major programs can finish it off with a national title, but this is the golden age of Tennessee Athletics and I’m going to enjoy it as long as I can. It won’t always be like this, as we’ve seen.

Amen...as an 80s/90s kid, I grew up believing it was my birthright to see Tennessee finish 10-2, or better, every single year in football. I took it for granted. Following the dark ages, I vowed to never do it again. Enjoy this success because it doesn't last. The games change, teams change, coaches change...nothing is static no matter how secure it feels. These are unprecedented times for Tennessee sports; football, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, etc...they are all good at the same time.

Yep. I flew in last week before regionals to spend time with my dad going to both rounds of the tournament. Quite possibly the happiest I have seen him in a long time. He was simply giddy last night. Just a fantastic memory and one I don’t think he ever thought he’d see again once things started going south around here around 05/06.

With how drastically college athletics are changing, it’s hard to predict where things will end up soon. But for now, this is awesome.

I would much rather have had Hurley out of college basketball.

He'd apparently put word out that he was taking the job earlier today, then something happened. Possibly LeBron related.

His wife apparently didn’t want to relocate…she’s from Jersey.

It’s a win win for him. He can keep winning in college till the Knicks or Nets job to open up then he can bounce to the NBA

Admittedly, there is some tinfoil conspiracy fear at play, but I dreaded the idea of him going to LA and failing, and Mark Pope also failing at UK, and those two (Hurley and UK) both looking for soft landings at the same time. Hurley at UCONN isn't a major threat to us except in a potential NCAAT matchup, so I don't really fear his presence in college basketball outside the SEC.

I was thinking more a long the lines of Hurley takes the LA job and UConn goes after Nate Oats, but I could have seen your way too

I'll be honest. I don't think Oats would leave Bama at it's current state for UConn. Bama is more than likely a top 3 team heading into next season, and while UConn potentially is too, there's no guarantee that their whole team would stay if there was a coaching change.

It's tough to see for me as well as long as Oats is fine being second fiddle at his own school. At UCONN, basketball is king, so it would depend on how big an ego he has. On the flip side, Alabama football brings in more revenue money ($129.3 million), alone, than UCONN's entire athletic budget ($93.1 million), so he may have more resources at a place like Bama as long as he has buy-in and commitment to basketball from their AD.
