The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

I woke up this morning, just in awe of the level of success Tennessee is having in all sports. I wasn’t sure when I was growing up in the 90’s I would ever see that here again when we entered the “dark ages” but man it’s something special. I hope at some point one of these major programs can finish it off with a national title, but this is the golden age of Tennessee Athletics and I’m going to enjoy it as long as I can. It won’t always be like this, as we’ve seen.

If 25-30 years ago you had told me there would be a day like now where not only is Tennessee good to great in the 5 “big” college sports (football, men’s bball, women’s bball, baseball and softball) but that football and women’s basketball are right now the “worst” of the 5 we’re doing, I would have called you out of your mind.

And that’s with football on the rise and women’s basketball only doing badly by their own historical standards.

Pat would have been turning 72 this Friday. Neyland, Bernard, and Summitt are on UT’s Mount Rushmore. Peyton is probably the 4th.

Interesting that Tennessee still lists Dubar at 6'-8". It was theorized that he's not nearly that tall (6'-6" at best). Tennessee, under Barnes, doesn't have a history of embellishment heights in their roster, so that is an interesting development.
Guessing maybe with and without shoes? Kind of like Bronny was like 6'1" without shoes but listed taller everywhere else.

Perhaps, but it seemed like the talk was that our staff was surprised at how much smaller he was in person. He wasn't listed at 6'-10" on Hofstra's roster...in fact, he was listed at 6'-8". So, maybe that rumor was unfounded after all. That would be a great development, if true.

Wonder why vols can't get the Dukies for 2 years now. UNC is a top tier team, but Syracuse not as much fun an opponent currently.

First off a small housekeeping note. We mentioned on the podcast this week that 2024 wing Kanon Catchings, who just received his release from Purdue, might be someone to keep an eye on. While there was some dialogue between Catchings, the No. 39 overall player in the nation, and Tennessee last week we don’t believe anything is going to materialize there.

Catchings had expressed some interest in making an official visit to Knoxville. However, based on what we’ve heard, it just didn’t seem like a good fit after what Tennessee added in the transfer portal. The buzz we’ve picked up is that Catchings is ideally looking for a program where he could showcase himself with the hopes of being ‘one-and-done’. With the veterans that Tennessee added on the perimeter in Chaz Lanier and Darlinstone Dubar Knoxville didn’t feel like that kind of place.

Elsewhere on the recruiting front the staff was on the road this week for the always loaded NBAPA Top-100 Camp in Orlando. 2025 commitment Dewayne Brown was an invited participant at the camp and was someone the staff kept tabs on.

Other 2025 prospects who received some attention from the Tennessee staff in Orlando this week were point guard Isaiah Denis from Concord, N.C., power forward Tylis Jordan from Snellville, Ga., shooting guard Simon Walker from Huntsville, Ala. and big man Chris Cenac from New Orleans. Five-star forward Caleb Wilson from Atlanta, the No. 4 overall player in 2025, sits on top of Tennessee’s wish list in the upcoming class, but he didn’t participate in the Orlando event.

The current team (minus Igor Milicic who is with his national team) is now assembled and summer workouts began in earnest this week. Incorporating new guys into the program is always pivotal, but when those new guys are expected to be instant contributors, building continuity and chemistry in the summer becomes even more crucial.

Along those same lines several opposing coaches (Pearl included) swore Knecht was bigger….around 6’8”.

That is the type of win that can exorcise all of your Battered Vol Fan Syndrome demons and makes you believe good things can happen. Just speechless. I feel like a weight has been lifted. Think that’s going to go down as one of the best wins in Tennessee history regardless of whether we win the whole thing (but certainly if we do).

Went to the movies with my wife in the 7th inning, assuming it was a wrap. Watched the ninth on my phone in the theatre, much to the chagrin of my wife and neighbor to my left. Don’t care, what a finish. I’m not even super invested in baseball and that was a top 10 most enthralling win for me as a Vols fan.

Certainly right up there with the Wright St. walkoff grand slam by Drew Gilbert! So awesome!

For Vols sports history comebacks period, that was up there with the Notre Dame comeback in 1991 and and the LSU comeback in 2005, and in basketball probably the comeback win over Texas in 2006. Given the circumstances it was bigger obviously.

Still find myself going back and watching that one on YouTube from time to time. Gilbert knocked the living daylights out of that ball. Hope this time the walk off leads to a championship.

Same here. My wife was like what the hell are you yelling and clapping like a maniac for in the kitchen as I was watching from my phone while cooking lol. She was confused because I literally never watch baseball and knew that football and basketball weren't going on.

I was like I'm desperate for a Natty, and don't really even care anymore what sport it is in lmao....

Same here...just watched it last week 😀

My son and I were in the right field stands and I vividly recall looking up and having the usual thought of, is that going to make it out, but that thought was for only a split second, because he hit that thing so hard that it was obviously gone. Then I just watched the ball disappear into the darkness of the night.
